  • Worth the investment for an extra 1/2 - 1 day of self-sufficient runtime
Style: Battery
Let's be realistic here. 40 hours of claimed runtime from a 300Wh battery? As amazingly efficient as the Glacier is (in fact, it's one of the most efficient I have tested), the manufacturer's claim of 40 hours is a bit lofty. Is it achievable? Absolutely. In cooler, ambient temperatures/weather. Will it last that long in the hot, summer heat or in your car? In my tests, no. The most I was able to get was about 30 hours in 90F ambient weather, or about 23 hours when left in the car's trunk. At about $1/Watt-hour, this battery is priced about right. It charges rapidly -- in about 3-4 hours -- with a USB-C PD 100W wall charger (I use Goal Zero's Sherpa 100 for portable charging, though I'd only be able to get this EF battery recharged by only about 33% with the Sherpa). Like many chargers, they start off fast and slow down as they reach about 80% so not to overcharge and overheat. I applaud EcoFlow in that they allow the extra battery to be recharged with a standard USB-C PD interface unlike some others who require the purchase of an expensive, proprietary wall charger to do so. The battery could also be used as a standalone power bank to charge mobile devices with via the same USB-C PD port, including a laptop. However, I would not use the battery for that purpose as there are cheaper power banks you can use. I would reserve this EF battery for powering the EF Glacier it was designed for. Why? There is a limited lifetime on how long these batteries will last. See my next point. Notable is that the battery uses Lithium-ion NMC and not Lithium-ion LiFePO4. This is an important distinction because EcoFlow's Delta power stations all use LiFePO4 for a variety of reasons. Lithium-ion NMC batteries are lighter and smaller, but more volatile and pricier, less usable in extreme temperatures, and have a lower charge cycle count (battery lifetime) than LiFePO4. Li-ion NMC loses about 20-25% of total capacity after every 500-800 charge cycle. That means after the first 500-800 cycles, the battery drops 20% from when it was new, then another 20% after the next 500 cycles, and 20% again after that one. It would take roughly 1,500 charging cycles to have the battery last only half as long as when it was brand-new. Thus, it should be usable for 2,000+ cycles or about 6-10 years. Li-ion LiFePO4 can last longer. CAUTION: Lithium-ion (LiFePO4 and NMC) batteries do NOT like to remain discharged at 0% for prolonged periods of time. If you let your battery stay at 0% for too long, you may not be able to charge it again without specialized equipment. Keep them at between 20-80% while in storage to maximize their lifetime. LiFePO4 Advantages - Safer, less volatile, and thus cheaper to manufacture - Higher charge cycle: 1500-2000 (10+ years). NMC: 500+ (6-10 years) - Usable in more extreme temperatures (-4F/-20C to 176F/80C). NMC: only 140F/60C max - Holds 350-day charge. NMC: 300 NMC Advantages - Smaller and lighter. Allows for more portable products - Faster charging Should you be concerned about how long this battery will last? No. It will be more likely for the Glacier to become obsolete before you would have to get a new battery. ... show more

  • Say goodbye to melting ice in cooler.
Style: GLACIER+Battery
I am thrilled with this new cooler. It worked great keeping things cold, making ice, running on battery, and shaming those with ice cubes in their coolers. I have always battled with water soaking meats, sandwiches, butter, etc., the mess created when time to empty the water, finding ice to buy at ridiculous prices, that half melted by the time we went back to the campsite. This wonderful fridge did away with all of that. Only used it for four days, but did not have to change the battery, because it was fully charged via car charger while getting there. The cooler Battery took over when the car was off. and for good measure, I used the solar panel to charge for about one hour. Did not disappoint. The not so good: Expensive, small (wish that it was at least 45-50 quarts, heavy (It required me to buy the wheels, which made it a cinch to move around.) Also needs to have the battery in order to use a/c (home plug) ... show more

  • Good unit for RVs, Spare use at Home, Camp
Style: GLACIER
This is a nice large portable Freezer/Fridge. The size is that of a large cooler. It is 40L storage plus an ice maker. This unit by itself is heavy and I added the wheels and extending handle which made it much easier to move. Hint- when removing the two vertical strips on the end before putting on the handle, you only need to remove the screw at the bottom of each strip. At least on ours. I would still use this for car or RV camping depending on the trip and space but there are other uses that it would also make sense. I used to live remotely and had to travel 1-2 hours each way to get groceries. It could be hot in the summer and to have a portable fridge/freezer to bring things home would have made a difference. Currently, I live in an outage prone area, beautiful but lots of trees. When the power goes out a back up for the fridge or freezer could be practical in addition to a battery. The box arrived quickly, about 2-3 days after ordering. There were a couple dings on the outer packaging that broke through the cardboard but no damage to the cooler itself. The foam on the inside protected it. Practical tests, AC- On first plugging it in, the unit comes with a two part charger, similar to a laptop. Then you simply hit the on button. I suggest installing the EcoFlow app on your phone because it allows you to control some features and settings. There is a screen next to the ice maker that shows information for settings as well. It took a half hour to get to freezing temperature initially which seemed quite fast and my first test on a batch of ice cubes took 16 minutes which is exactly what the app and screen told me it would take. The reservoir holds 2 1/2 pint bottles of water at max. The attached photo shows the app, the screen, the cubes in the maker and the finished cubes. There is a separator that can divide the main unit into two sections, fridge with basket and freezer on right. There is a 45* max difference between the two sides. The basket will hold 12 pints of water plus more on top of that. The unit knows when the separator is in and you can set the temperature for each side. Or attach it inside the lid and just have one temperature. It is easier to set using the app. But still not difficult with the screen and the up down buttons. The second picture shows the app and screen with both zones and the interior with minimal items for testing. Room temp to cold, freezing- I didn’t time it. This was a real life test, I needed to chill some lemonade bottles for a meeting. It was two half gallon bottles and at the same time I partitioned the unit and put water, approximately two cups in a sealed bag in the freezer section. Set the temps at 0 for the freezer and 26 for the cooler (yes low!) the lemonade would be sitting out at the meeting. It was in for 7 hours and the bag of ice was frozen. The lemonade was nice and chilled. My Glacier did not come with a battery so I was unable to review the battery capabilities or charging. I plan on getting a battery and will review for Solar charging and off grid at that time. ... show more
