  • Rugged but with low magnification
The product is very rugged. It seems well-built and child-friendly. I feel like it will last my child quite a while. I loved how they made the viewing space extended so that it gives support on both sides of the child's head. This allows my son to more easily position and hold his eyes in the correct place while trying to view an object. I was disappointed that the telescoping power was so weak. It allowed me to see things more closely that were only about 20 feet away. If I could walk that far in just a few feet....then what is the point? I was hoping to be able to use it for bird watching. Also, the magnification was sharp but the image was tiny. I could only see about a 1/2 in. of the image, the rest of the space surrounding it was blurry. I would have to position my eyes exactly before, I was able to see this small image. I think this made it very hard for my child to see the object. This would work for an older child (9-13) or an extremely patient 7 year old but for my rambunctious 5 year old boy.....it was a no go. He does love taking it out and about on walks with him. It is a great toy to play dress-up scientist as he loves to hang it around his neck and the strap is quite sturdy. #educationalinsights #GeoSafariJr ... show more

  • Maybe I just don’t get it
I had a hard time figuring it out but the kids love it anyway

  • Tricky to use view finders, but kid approved.
I bought this for my daughters ages 4 and 7. Right out of the box, I love how sturdy it is and the fact that it is made with "green" materials. I tried it out and found it kind of tricky to see things when using the telescope and microscope feature. I really had to squint, adjust, re-align, etc. to get a decent view. When you use the microscope feature, what you see is in a very small circle. Seeing things from far away is a little better, but don't plan on doing bird watching or anything like that. With that said, my 7 year old was thrilled to see it when she woke up the next morning. She immediately tried it out, hung it around her neck, and takes it with her when we go places outdoors. She has not complained about the views at all, so I haven't brought it up. I'm giving it 4 stars because while I had some difficulty, my children love this toy and it really encourages them to get out and spend time in nature. It's a great STEM tool as it encourages scientific exploration. ... show more

  • Good Concept But Hard to See
The GeoSafari Jr. Explorer is just the right size for young children. My kids range from 2 to 7 and they all enjoyed strapping it on and using it to view things in nature such as plants, birds, squirrels, bugs, and rocks. It has an adjustable neck to switch from microscope to telescope, which is really neat. We like the portability of it to take on the go. As a downside, it was difficult at first to see clearly through the lens. At first, it seemed like something was blocking our view, but we kept trying and finally found with the right angle we can see objects. It also was a bit blurry, so it was difficult to look at for long periods of time. For the kids though, they were excited to use it and felt like scientists once they got the hang of viewing it. Overall, I like the concept of it but maybe improve the ease of use or clarity for viewing. ... show more

  • Fun toy that encourages exploration
My kids love this explorer scope. It fits my six year old daughter's eye perfectly. My almost three year old likes playing with it, but I'm not sure how much he can actually see through it yet. It would be nice if the eye piece featured some ability to adjust a little bit, since everyone's eyes might not fit the same. When it's fully extended, it's also hard for my younger one to hold it as it's so long. It would also be nice if it came with a little better instructions so parents could help out their children. I couldn't look through to see anything due to my larger eye span, so I needed to rely on my daughter to know if it was working properly, and additional instructions could have helped ensure that it was. Still, it's a fun and excellent learning that encourages exploration, and I would recommend it to my friends. ... show more

  • Hard to use
I bought this after buying the binoculars for my 2 1/2 year old. I understand it's not for a child that young. I was planning on breaking them out later. My son found them, and wouldn't let them go, so we decided to open them. It's a big unit- definitely geared for a 5+ year old. It's also difficult to use. The unit was so tight, I didn't know the unit extended further until my husband tried to pull it out further, when trying to get the telescope function. The microscope function isn't clear unless the object is almost touching the lense, and it magnified a very small section. It's a great idea, but I recommend purchasingthe microscope and binoculars separately, especially if your child is under 5. This is a great company and I will continue to buy from them. This product is a swing and a miss from my standpoint. ... show more

  • Durable, safe binoculars for kids!
This toy is so cute. My boys have been wanting binoculars, and these are a super cute durable pair. My 8 year old had fun spotting an owl in our yard one night, and playing adventurer many days. We also let our 5 year old with special needs run all around the yard with them many times, and were very happy that they still worked just as well afterwards. He has broken many toys and electronic devices, so that is saying something! These binoculars don't have the magnification of an expensive pair of adult binoculars, but that's not what they are trying to be. They are just as described, and are a lot of fun. The boys also thought it was very cool that they can be used to magnify as well. I think these are especially good for preschoolers, and for kids with special needs or who otherwise lack the necessary coordination and understanding to keep a more delicate pair of binoculars from breaking. These are cute and durable and fun. *I got this toy free to review on my blog but liked it so much I wanted to review it here too. I was not asked to review it here and receive nothing for doing so. ... show more
