Modern macs don't even have CD-ROMS so the accompanying micro-CD didn't work, and the external mac drive wouldn't accept the CD. I had to find the support forum by googling around, and I downloaded the driver manually. It installed, it rebooted my computer, and... nothing. The instructions say to run the "ASIX_USB_Device_App" after reboot and I did (why should I need that, it should be in the OS now?), but it doesn't appear to actually DO anything, and when I plug in the device, the expected ethernet interface doesn't even show up, even connected to a switch. I'm completely at a loss what to do with this thing and I have an entire network to build, so back I go to the PC laptop and abandon this direction.

Excellent device, helps greatly with a new Macbook that comes with USB-C ports only. Actually, I only looked for a USB-C_to_RJ45 adapter, the two added standard USB ports on it is definitely a bonus. At first, I got a bit confused about the driver software version on the manufacturer's site and contacted their support, They were extremely helpful and worked with me until confirmed correct functioning of the RJ-45 connectivity. Very happy with the purchase, highly recommend.
