  • Sonic Surprise
Color: Gray
The Edifier W800BT is a surprisingly high quality set of headphones at an amazing price point. The sound is clean, and I didn’t experience any flat spots or clipping listening to a variety of music. They provide impressive dynamics with a spacious soundstage out of the box, with crisp highs and clean lows. They may not have the punch of more expensive headphones, but they still provide a great listening experience. Bluetooth 5.4 means a rock-solid connection - I was able to move the length of my house, and didn’t get any drops until I’d actually gone down a floor and out the front door (at least 70’). The other tech is similarly impressive - the ANC is the best I’ve heard in a sub-$250 set of headphones, and the ambient sound is clean, though the amount of surface area you get through the ear cups on your head means muddy sound when you’re speaking. Build quality is lightweight, but not flimsy. It’s all plastic, so you won’t have that premium sheen, but you do get comfort with quality fit and finish. My ears get a little hot in the pleather ear cups on longer listening sessions, but nothing I don’t experience with other similar headphones. Lastly, the Edifier ConneX app is easy to use and provides some customizability for sound and noise cancellation profiles, along with a location sensing capability that could be nice if you tend to take your headphones on and off a lot when you’re using them. ... show more

  • Excellent for the Price
Color: Gray
At $50 or less, these are a winner. - They sound quite good, clear and full mids and highs, not quite as tight on the bass but full enough to still sound good, with a decent amount of space and separation in the sound. - The battery life seems crazy good. At about 50% volume with ANC on High, I wore them for about an hour each two times last weekend, let them sit (powered off) for a week, and have been listening today for about two hours: the app says the battery is at 95%, suggesting something like 80hrs of battery life. - Quite comfortable. The ear cups are large enough and deep enough that they fit completely around my (average sized? 5'10" male) ears and not press them against my head. The head band has enough padding, and the clamping force is just about right for me. - Simple controls: volume up and down that double as skip forward and back with a long press, a multifunction button that does long press power on/off and single press for play/pause, and another multi-function button that does long press bluetooth pairing, single press cycles through ANC/Ambient/ANC off, and double press cycle throu sound modes (music, gaming/low latency, and Spatial Sound). - Very good passive noise isolation and active noise cancelling. With music off: - With ANC off, maybe 20% of the TV sound comes through - With ANC on high, I 100% cannot hear the TV. I also can't hear my daughter at all when she's 5 feet from me, trying to talk to me - There is a wind noise reduction mode, I haven't tried it. - Ambient mode is not something I really use, but in the same test as above, I can watch TV and understand what people are saying with music off and ambient mode on. Sound quality isn't awesome, but it's good enough. - A nice, clear, not loud voice in your ears when you change the ANC/ambient/ANC off mode, and when you change the sound mode. No prompts when you play/pause or change the volume. - Nice simple app that connects every time and has simple customization. You can: - Customize the multifunction button that does sound modes and sound control, meaning switch what a single press does with what a double press does, or disable either. You can also choose what the button cycles through; choose which ANC/ambient/ANC off modes are skipped, and which music/gaming/spatial sound modes are skipped. - Choose an equalizer: built-in Classic or Dynamic EQ, or a custom EQ. The custom EQ is extremely limited: only 4 bands, that aren't identified by frequency, and only +/-3dB range, but at least it's there. - The ear pieces fold "flat" and "in", so these can fold up pretty small. They do not come with a case. - As with nearly all close ear headphones, these seal tightly enough against my head that after a while they make my ears warm and a little sweaty. I don't love that, but it's pretty typical. Honestly, great for the price. ... show more

  • Great Noise Cancelling for the Price
Color: Black
Edifier 800BT Pro Review I have gone through a lot of headphones over the years, and now wear noise-cancelling headphones every day. I was wanting a back-up pair, and noise-cancelling was a key feature I was looking for. The reason why- I have quite sensitive ears, and have a noisy neighbor, who plays loud music at all hours. Pros- Value. Retails at $50. Some features are better than my more expensive noise-cancelling headphones (Sony WH-CH720N). Noise Cancelling. Advertised at -44 dB overall. These have very good active noise-canceling, and a good seal around the ears for passive noise-cancelling. Thus, hybrid. Overall, these have slightly better noise-cancelling than my other headphones. Great for reducing background noises, like music, fan, blower, or lawnmower. You can still hear higher pitched sounds/voices, and some lower frequency from subwoofers, but may take the edge off those. Noise-cancelling technology is only so effective. I use the noise-cancelling, in combination with white noise, to help me mask my neighbor’s loud music. Battery Life. 45 hours playtime. That's more than I really need. My Sony’s have 35 hours. Bluetooth 5.4 – The latest and greatest. Range seems to about the same as Sony, but the 5.4 has better power efficiency. Devices - Can connect with up to 2 devices at the same time. That's ideal. App and features - The app isn't overly complicated. It has noise-cancelling controls, sound effects, and sound modes. Has "find feature" that will make the headphones beep, but the power needs to be on the headphones. This find feature is meant for earbuds. Comfort. They are very adjustable. Padding is soft. At first, they were a little tight around the ears, but now that they’ve broken in some, they’re more comfortable. Storage. Compact and foldable. The Sony WH-CH720N doesn’t fold. Weight. 253 grams. These are considered lightweight. These are a bit heavier than my Sony WH-CH720N @ 192 grams. The Sony's are super lightweight and the lightest on the market, as far as I know. 253 grams still feels light on the head. In contrast, my beefiest pair of headphones, weigh in at 500 grams. Audio Quality. Better than expected. It’s adequate for what I’m listening to, which is mostly sports, talk shows, and tv/movies. Sound is not as good as Sony WH-CH720N. The Sony’s for music, aren’t that great either, though. I have other headphones that are superior for music, but they aren’t noise-cancelling or Bluetooth. Generally, you get what you pay for, when it comes to audio quality. Cons Ear pad materials. My ears can get too warm wearing these. That's the trade-off of the passive noise-cancelling. Seems to be a plastic or pleather outer material also. I usually need to replace these type of ear pads every 6 months to a year, so I expect about the same durability wise with these. Ear pads are a consumable part, with all headphones. So I’m not knocking off any stars for this. Overall, for bluetooth noise-cancelling headphones, at this price point, I’m not sure if you can do better. If I wanted a basic pair of noise-cancelling headphones, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy these, over a $100 pair. If you want something for high-level audio quality, then you’ll need to spend more. ... show more
