Description

The Edelbrock Performer Square Bore Air Valve Secondary Electric Choke New Carburettor features a two-piece, all-aluminium construction for cooler operating temperatures and less warping. It is designed and calibrated for good street performance and fuel economy in 402 CID and larger engines with the Edelbrock Performer manifolds. There are no gaskets below the fuel bowl level for fewer leaks and no plastic parts or power valves to blow out. The Performer electric choke carburettor includes both timed and full vacuum ports for ignition advance. The carburettors use easily changed metering rods for precise tuning. The Edelbrock Performer covers the replacement or repair of the product only and does not cover the cost of removal and installation.

  • Bolts on and it is a great design, works better than the rodchester, But needs the modifications recommended below !!!!
Outer holes of carburetor do not line up with base plate adapter for spreadbore Chevy rodchester original carburetor. A few points to inform anyone that wants to install this carburetor on a smog legal Chevy V8 1980 and earlier; 1) tap the intake 5/16ths by 16, clean the blind threads. 2) install choke lamp circuit ( check wiring diagram ) mine required Standard parts# PS135 & S939 1/8 NPT tee & nipple. 3) 5/16ths-16 2" long cap screws for inside holes. 4) buy Edelbrock #'s 8092, 8126, & Spreadbore adapter kit. 5) make 2" angle iron bracket 1 1/2 wide. See photo. Now it's going to be a daily driver.. 2) buy 5/16ths x 2" cap screws. 3) buy spreadbore adapter. 4) use center holes. 4) if you don't have a electric choke originally, remove dash, install bulb W/ holder, install wire into connector for dashboard, wire choke to a Standard S939 connector to the dash choke light. This is on one side of the two plug connector, the other side is wired to a 20 amp fuse to the firewall bus. And the connector plugs into a Standard PS135.A 1/8 NPT tee and nipple is also needed. 5) Buy a 3/4" air horn adapter. 6) buy the correct throttle stud. 7) manufacturer a throttle vacuum motor bracket, 2" angle iron 1 1/2 wide, make a template from the adapter cardboard ( it is perfect ) press it on the corner and trim the slot, press again and there is the hole alignment. Cut the slot, place the template drill the holes, take your vacuum motor out of the original bracket, heat the bracket with a oxy/acetylene welding torch or map gas and straighten the bracket, A 12-28 tap is needed to use the factory screws on the original carburetor, and the internal portion between the screws needs to be milled out, you can do this with a 1/4" drill bit if you don't have access to a mill.( See photo ) FYI the $165 solenoid is a waste of money, wouldn't recommend it if I was paid to use it! ... show more

  • Excellent Carb!!
Its all Good!

  • No manifold advance on the Edelbrock #1400 carb!
The Edelbrock #1400 carb (not the 1406 or others in the 1400-series) is their FUEL EFFICIENT carburetor! This is important to note, and is not clear in Amazon's product descriptions IMO. I just now discovered this fact after scratching my head for several days trying to figure out why it was showing zero vacuum on what I thought was the manifold vacuum port. It does not have manifold vacuum! Unlike every other carb made by Edelbrock, the port on the right is not manifold vacuum port it is second ported vacuum port. THIS IS IMPORTANT because most hot rodders agree that manifold vacuum should be used for the vacuum advance on the distributor, not ported vacuum and they're now calling ported vacuum advance a 40-year-old failed attempt at emission controls. "For peak engine performance, drivability, idle cooling and efficiency in a street-driven car, you need vacuum advance, connected to full manifold vacuum. Absolutely. Positively. Don't ask Summit or Jeg's about it – they don’t understand it, they're on commission, and they want to sell 'race car' parts." This carb came on my street truck that I bought, but I did not buy it from Amazon. It is working just fine, though I wonder if I would get better idle and starts "off the line" if I had manifold vacuum hooked up to the vacuum advance on the dizzy. The engine is a SBC 350. ... show more

  • :-)
I just love this thing...You can use it for more applications than listed, just make sure you get the right adapter plate and plan on tuning some, but I love the way this looks, makes my Jeep sound, and makes it run down the road...

  • OLD STOCK
This rating is for the carb shipped and not the performance of the carb since unfortunately if they would have shipped the correct carb it might be on my car and performing fine. The carb shipped is not the current version of the 1400. This one is 'OLD STOCK' that is not the same as the 1400 on the Edelbrock website. The date on the Edelbrock box is 4.20.12, a few days short of a year old. The mounting holes do not line-up with my stock manifold even though it states that it will fit. The top opening is too big for my stock air cleaner even though it states that it will fit. There is a large port on the top, choke side, next to the gas inlet port that is not on the picture, not described in the Amazon description and not shown on the Edelbrock website. What is this for? Who knows? Probably because it's old stock. It came with a .30" heat spacer to mount between the carb and the manifold but they did not include the longer studs. Doesn't really matter since the bolt hole pattern was different than the manifold. This would probably be on my car right now if they didn't try to pawn-off old stock on me and had sent the current version! ... show more
