Description

Save water by eliminating the wait for hot water to reach the faucet. Simply tap into the water line and install the heater directly at the sink. No need for costly recirculating lines and pumps. And when you want to eliminate the wait for hot water but need more volume, install the Eco Smart heater in-line with a larger hot water source, such as a thankless heater or a storage tank heater. Lightweight and compact, these units plug into a standard 110 volt outlet.

  • What it's good for... and not
Size: ECO MINI 4
This review is for the 4 gallon model. These mini-tanks are really made for situations where you have a remote water heater, and you have to wait for hot water. They are not well suited for general use. That being said.... I have a broken hot water pipe in the foundation, and wanted a temporary solution for the kitchen sink. Our water temp is around 65 degrees. I gave this a shot. With this set to the max setting, we can do some dishes, but if the sink is full - after a large family meal - the hot water runs out. Even when running at a trickle, or shutting off between washing / rinsing, it can still run out. It's far better than nothing, and it works for me as a temporary solution. We adjust the way we do dishes, by doing small batches at a time. Remember you have about 4 gallons of hot water, and as soon as you start using it, the hot immediately begins to mix with cold water. By the time you have used ~ 2 gallons, you have effectively run out of "hot" water. The small heating element is made for longer recovery times - like 15 to 20 minutes. If you do intend to use this as a "point of use" water heater, it would work in a bathroom sink for washing hands; or a 1 or 2 person household that does not have tons of dishes. It would be great for a garage / outdoor sink - washing hands before you enter the house, etc. Or a laundry tub where you would do small quick rinsing, etc. This will never work for a shower, or dishwasher, washing machine, or anything that uses a significant volume of hot water. Unlike a larger water heater, the output temperature drops quickly as soon as you start using it. The cord does have a standard plug on the end; it is about 3 feet long. It works in a standard 120v outlet, you don't need anything special. Remember if you plan to install in the kitchen, most outlets under the sink are switched (for the garbage disposal), so keep that in mind. If you connect this to your faucet with typical rubber supply lines (sink or toilet type), you do not need dielectric nipples as the instructions recommend. The output pipes are iron, so if you do connect direct brass fittings, you need a dielectric. It comes with the necessary PRV, check local code for use. Many people vent this straight into the drain line, which is not up to code and a good way to contaminate the PRV and blow up your drain if/when the heater vents. And yes, this is the exact same heater as Rheem, just a different label and case color. My one complaint is that the inlet / outlet fittings were super dirty with thread cutting oil and remnants of thread. It took some careful cleaning to get that stuff out. The PRV fitting was also contaminated. That some pretty poor quality control, one star off for that because I was able to clean it without much hassle. ... show more

  • Good unit but came with dirt and grease in threads
Size: ECO MINI 2.5
This unit is compact and works perfectly for us as an under sink (kitchen) unit in line with my main water heater to help get instant hot water as my main unit is a long run from the sink. Came with a TPR valve (some have said theirs didn’t. Mine did). Minus 1 star because the threads in the inlet and outlet and the TPR port were covered in a grease/wax that I’m pretty sure was from the thread cutting and it doesn’t seem to be water/food safe. I cleaned it well and rinsed the tank a few times so I felt comfortable with it but it was disappointing to have to do that work and also concerning about the workmanship. It has a temp mark on the reostat for 125°F but nothing beyond that. Would be nice to have a digital read out. ... show more

  • Works great!
Size: ECO MINI 2.5
This was the perfect addition to my wet bar. Hot water is essential to a wet bar and this gives me perfect control of temperature. Great purchase!

  • Very Easy To Install
Size: ECO MINI 2.5
We have a tankless gas hot water heater and it took a long time before the water got hot for the kitchen faucet. After reviewing the options, I got the 2.5 gallon model. I got this over another major brand because it occupied less surface area and the sink cabinet was tall enough (need at least 19,5 inches). It was a lot easier to install than what the other reviews would suggest. First, I saw what was under my sink for the hot water supply line. In my case, it was a 3/8 inch where there was a shutoff valve. The supply line would need a 3/8" male and the hot water coming out of the unit would also need the 3/8" male since what I disconnected was a 3/8" female nut. I took the entire unit to a local (major) hardware store to fit and this is what I got. Two 1/2" inch female to 3/8" male (90 degree) stainless steel union. The 1/2" actually measures 3/4" so don't just order without knowing for sure what you have. They make these things very confusing so that plumbers can make a lot of money. One 20 inch long 3/8" male and 3/8" male steel braided hose and one 20 inch? long 3/8" male and 3/8" female stainless steel hose. One 3/4" male PVC 1/2" female union, 1/2" PVC elbow and 3' PVC pipe for the relief valve. Used a special PTFE tape that is easier to work with and costs 3 times more than regular tape. Others use pipe dope (liquid variety). Make sure everything is tight and leak free by running water through it for a while before turning on the unit. You can also damage the unit if you turn on without water running through. I also got GFCI adapter from Amazon and a motion sensor LED puck light that attaches to the metal sink magnetically (puck LED light comes with a magnet). I thought about installing the unit in the crawlspace to also supply other lines but decided against it because I don't know anything about PEX pipes. I also did not supply the dishwasher line for the same reason. My wife loves instant hot water in the kitchen now and I do too. I hope it lasts and stays leak free. ... show more
