I love this backpack for travel and have used it extensively as a personal item, pairing it with a carry-on backpack across numerous flights on different airlines. This bag is awesome! Great size for “personal item”. If you need to pack light, this is perfect! This little bag has so many compartments and zippers for storing different items! Fits way more than a normal backpack. This is well worth the money!

I love this backpack. It is so well organized, pockets are large enough so they actually work. So many backpacks have flat pockets and you can't get anything into them, especially if you have the main section full of clothes. I really like the laptop compartment because it has a Velcro strap to keep the laptop secure and also pockets for your cord, mouse, etc. It has a front pocket where you can put your power pack and a charging port to slip the cord through, a small compartment at the top for your phone and things you need to access quickly. I think that one is quite secure because the zipper is facing the back of your neck. In addition to all those, it also has another pocket on the front for things like pens and could be used for snacks, books or even your wallet. It is deep, so things would be quite safe. I think you'd know if someone tried to pick it. Some of the pockets open with 2 zippers so you can secure them with a double carabiner clip for added security. The fabric seems strong, it's water resistant and the bag is light weight. I think it is perfect for a smaller person. My compression bags fit well in the luggage section, which also has two large pockets for added organization. I like the water bottle pocket which expands. There are compression straps on both sides. Another feature is snaps on the body straps so when you aren't wearing it, the straps don't drag. My 15 inch laptop fits perfectly. I think they've thought of just about everything. The only things missing are a hidden pocket on the back side below the luggage strap and a chest strap, otherwise it is perfect. I bought the larger one for comparison and decided I liked the features of the smaller one better. The 18" one has the hidden pocket but doesn't have as nice a laptop section. It doesn't have the Velcro strap or the small pockets for the mouse, etc. I found them more valuable than the hidden pocket. The size meets the size requirement for personal items to put under seats on nearly all airlines. An 18 x 14 X 8 one, or anything larger, no longer meets the airline standards and they are starting to crack down on even being over by 1/2 inch. This is an attractive backpack that won't disappoint you if you are looking for a clam shell style one. It will keep you organized without confusing you about where everything is stashed.

I can’t tell you how perfect this is for travel!!! Buy it now! While my co traveler struggled with hers and ended up checking ih coming back, mind easily slid under the seat. It holds a LOT of things easily with pockets to keep if organized. I had boots, clothing and make up in main compartment and an iPad and all my charging devices in another area, a front zip easy for accessing passport and/or phone. My large battery charger for phone slid easily into compartment by iPad as did my iPods. My keys zipped into an almost hidden compartment directly on top. I will be buying my daughter one as a gift. It also fits all carry in sizes for airlines!!! Side area for water bottle or drink… Awesome! Adjustable straps, easy to carry, weight depends on what you put in it.

I purchased this bag for a trip within the US with my mom. I was going to be carrying some of her medical equipment in my personal item. I chose this bag to use as my personal item. This bag had many of the things I was looking for: a luggage style opening for easy packing, a large water bottle pocket, cinch down straps on both sides, a light interior, a large boxy space for irregular shaped items, padded backpack straps, a separate laptop compartment and organizational pockets. I was happy with the layout of the pockets, and the 17" size fit well within the personal item sizer. In practical use, it met most of my expectations - it held the items I needed, the backpack straps were cushiony, the top handle was very useful and the chinch down straps helped to level the load. What was a disapointment was that the zippers pulled away from the stitching, and made me wonder if the zippers or the sides of the bag were going to fail while I was carrying this medical equipment. Also, all of the 4 pockets on the front of the bag went all the way down to the bottom, so everything gravitated to the bottom of the bag. I am keeping this bag because it will meet my needs for 3-4 day trips and it had the features I was looking for in this type of personal item. However, I am not sure how long the bags zippers will last. Only time will tell. January 2026 update. I used this as my main bag on a 4 day driving trip in the US. The bag was ok. But the zippers jammed and it was frustrating to use.
