  • Amazing quality the you would expect from Ecobee
While the subscription is expensive for the features it gives, the sensors are amazing and worth the price overall. Being able to turn off my heater when a door or window is left open is a great and useful feature. More importantly, the accuracy of the open/close reporting is reassuring and trustworthy. I have sixteen sensors setup in the 2400 sq ft two story house and occasionally get a disconnect alert but not worth making a big deal about. It would be nice if they had a better mesh feature to eliminate this communication issue. ... show more

  • Ecobee sensor
I just purchase an ecobee smart thermostat with sensors. The sensors are amazing love that I can know what door is open and closed. This can also help me know if my toddler tries or opens the door. I May be wrong but i think you have to have a service pay plan to be able to know when doors are open or help save energy with your ac unit ... show more

  • Like that I don't need a separate security system!
Bought for our new home along with an ecobee thermostat. Currently I don't have an internet provider, but when I do I plan on using the monitoring that ecobee offers for better than half off what I pay for with my security system in my Mountain home. Did alot of research before making my purchase. Liked what I read in reviews. Very happy with my purchase and I'm able to had more sensors as I and my budget allows. ... show more

  • Really nice well built sensors
The sensors themselves are very well built and are very easy to setup. They also seemed a bit overpriced for what you get perhaps 20 to 25 dollars per sensor would be more appropriate than 40 dollars per sensor. Also it seems to require a Ecobee Haven subscription to make any use of them and for me not having an Ecobee camera it just doesn't make sense. I am currently using Ring Cameras and already have a subscription for that so I don't really need another subscription just to receive notifications from these sensors. Also they sensors don't seem to support IFTTT. What would make these sensors a whole lot useful is if Ecobee enabled their use without a Haven subscription or lowered the cost of the subscription for people not using the cameras. Also it would be really nice if they enabled IFTTT support with them, in my opinion that would make them a whole lot more useful. ... show more

  • Does not work outside of their ecosystem!
So, here's the good: well built, easy setup, reliable, good app. But, the bad is a deal breaker(at least for me) : if you hope to use these within an existing smart system(Smartthings, in my case), you can't. Ecobee has closed off their api to other services, so your hubs won't even detect these. That means, no automations, no routines, no Ifttt. Apparently, ecobee has decided they want to be a service company, with monthly service contracts for their customers who want to use their hardware. It wasn't good enough for them to just be a terrific hardware company, with a great reputation. I've proselytized for them for years! No more. What's even worse is that even their Support team is unclear on this new direction. I spoke with them twice. Both times, they assured me that the sensors would work within Smartthings. After hours of troubleshooting, they finally relented and realized they were wrong... The sensors don't work unless you pay the subscription, and are within their platform. Ugh.. ... show more

  • Nice addition to the ecobee SmartCamera to create your home security system
I have been very happy with my ecobee Home Security Bundle. Installation and configuration could not have been easier or more intuitive. Simply mount the sensors, open the ecobee app on your phone, step through adding the new device and the security bundle was up and running in a couple of minutes. One of the things I like about ecobee products is they appeal to a wide range of Users. You can keep it very simple or you can integrate their devices into a larger ecosystem for home automation. I also purchased the SmartCamera as part of the ecobee as part of the Home Security Bundle. And I already have an ecobee Smart Thermostat with Voice Control. All of these devices integrate though the ecobee App to create a very simple to use home security network for added peace of mind. And the Autopilot feature automatically takes care of turning on/off the security system as well as setting the thermostat to home/away as you come and go from your home. What a simple but effective system. ... show more

  • Requires subscription
I installed 4 of these with my new ecobee thermostat. Initially I really liked them. The installation was easy. The range was great. My HVAC would pause the schedule is a door was left open. The HVAC relied on all 4 motion sensors plus the thermostat to determine if it should go into away mode. All of this was great, but there was a catch. When you first buy an Ecobee thermostat you get a 90 day free subscription to their Smart Security service. I didn’t really buy these for a security system but rather to turn off the HVAC system when a door is left open and to help with the away mode. That was a feature of the Ecobee thermostat I really liked. You could look and see when there was activity near one of the doors or when it was opened or closed. However, it turns out, after 90 days all of those features go away. You have to pay at least $50 a year (or $90 for more features) to maintain this basic functionality. For $50 a year this is a VERY basic self monitoring security system and your ecobee thermostat performs as advertised. For $90 you get professional 24/7 monitoring and 30 day video recording for unlimited ecobee cameras. If you want these sensors to just help you reduce your energy consumption and maybe provide a basic awareness of when someone left for the day. You’ll have to pay for it. It’s a bit too expensive for the extremely basic nature of the service it provides. ... show more
