  • Amazing Inverter/ Charger That You Cannot Beat in Quality or Price

This is actually two different products combined into one. It is a 1kW (1,000 watts) inverter that can peak at 2kW for about 4 seconds before it faults, which should still be plenty of time for anything requiring a higher starting inductive load. As far as the power quality, it is truly great. The product is reliable so far, running 24/7 and in UPS mode. It automatically charges any batteries connected and actually pushes out 60 amps of charging power, a bit over the claimed 55 amps ~ again fantastic to see, and shows a willingness to engineer a safer more reliable product with a touch of over-engineering in some spots. It is reliable, and the UPS function has been test 12 times and used in real world black outs 3 times and worked beautifully. With my oscilloscope I was able to measure a real world UPS switchover time of 10ms which is significantly better than the "less than 20" advertising, as it is indeed less that 20ms by a lot. This is excellent to see, and makes me happy. The build quality is amazing. It's in a strong metal enclosure that has rails for wall mounting or other forms of mounting options. I'm truly impressed how well it's built. Heat dissipation is so good that the inverter/charger never feels warm. The fan is loud though and can sound like a rocketship. There are actually two fans in the enclosure. One fan blows air directly over a large transformer, huge capacitors, and transistors - used to create the pure sine wave power. It generates enough heat to need it's own fan that is much quieter. The enclosure has more than ample airflow options. The jetpack fan has two speeds: mostly loud, and jet engine. The amount of air it pushes through it is massive. It never feels hot and exhuast air from both fans is also relatively cool at all times The inverter/charger has multiple layers of protection and reading the manual will allow you to understand what protection(s) it applied via the fault light. There is no app or connectivity to the product though Overall this is an amazing product. It produces pure sine wave power, it can handle a decent load of 1kW without blinking an eye or heating up, it's build extremely well, components inside are of very high quality.   • Too much RFI to filter from battery charger

My initial testing with a 135 AH LiFePO4 battery and a three speed space heater (~500, ~800, ~1200) is that it supplies 800W continuously and 1200W briefly just fine. With reasonable filtering on the battery side and the inverter output side, it had very low RFI emissions in my testing for my ham radio station. However, when the AC input was connected and the unit was charging the battery, the RFI was unacceptable even with good filtering. With stronger filtering in the form of a Tripp-Lite Isobar power strip on the AC input, battery charging caused the filter in the power strip to chatter and hum. I surmise that the battery charger AC input is nowhere near anything resembling a sine wave, and my spectrum analyzer showed noise and pulses over a wider frequency range.   • Neat gadget, but no remote switching, and will not work with a downstream GFCI

I thought this would be the nearly perfect replacement for my aging "modified sine wave" inverter charger - same 1000 watt rating with fast 50 amp charge rate, and a fraction the size and weight. If the downstream setup of my RV were simpler, it might have been fine, but the ground pin of the output outlets is not bonded to the neutral pin; in fact, it's apparently floated to around 60 volts with a pair of 4.7 meg-ohm resistors. This causes any downstream GFCI to trip. Unfortunately, because of those resistors, you can't simply bond the neutral and ground at the outlet, because those same resistors will then cause any *upstream* GFCI to trip. Ultimately, this has made the unit unsuitable for my use. Another couple of issues which I was able to work around: There's no way to control the inverter remotely. In an RV application, this means you have to have access to the inverter itself to turn it on or off - you can't use a remote switch. I built a small relay into the unit to connect across the existing switch, actuated by an external 12 volt signal. Also, there's no remote status signal of any sort. I only wanted to know whether the AC was coming from shore power or the inverter, so I used another relay on the incoming line for that. Again, though, it would have been nice if these features were already part of the unit. I understand shooting for a price point, and this really is a great deal for what it provides, but at least the remote on-off control is a minimal feature that I've come to expect on even much smaller inverters. I would have taken off two stars for the flaws, but the unit really is an exceptional value for the price, and it does seem well engineered. The reviews that complained about reversed hot and neutral must have been from earlier units, because mine was wired correctly (I checked before installing it). ... show more

I tested out this unit to it's maximum. I like it alot. Runs very cool. Fan is most audible during charging. Mine runs at 58ish amps for charging. So the fan won't be on all that long at that rate. The 1k watts is truly that. 1200 watts sustained and it shuts off. The 1500watt spike was ok for a second though. Below 1k watts it'll be a great inverter. The UPS/ATS is the fastest I think I've owned in a inverter/converter. For the price and cool running, I can put up with the very noticeable fan during charging. I would like to own a 2000 watt version exactly like this one. I use a popular knock off pure sinewave 1kWatt inverter that can run my microwave fine. Not complaining, just sayin ;) ... show more

  • Does what it's supposed to do

Customer service is in China. I sent them a message detailing a problem I had with the switch-over time when the mains power goes away. I have computers hooked up to the output of the inverter/charger and they sometimes crash during switch-over. I included the _entire_ item listing title. They eventually came back and asked for my Amazon purchase information so they could determine what product I had. I went along with them and sent screen grabs of the same information. Now they've come back and asked me to connect a voltmeter to the battery and take a picture of it. I guess they think I'm too stupid to give them a detailed and accurate report. It's a timing issue but I doubt they even read my initial email. I guess their customer service policy is to keep asking absurd questions until the customer gets mad and stops bothering them. I asked Gemini about the whole thing and got an absolutely wonderful answer in about 45 seconds. Computers can generally tolerate 16 ms power glitches. This inverter's switch-over is just longer than that. Gemini told me to stick a cheap UPS (typical switch-over in 2-8 ms) between the inverter/charger and the computers to hide the slow switch-over.
