  • Good enough, but not great
Unlike most of the other reviewers, I wasn't particularly impressed with this ECHOGEAR TV mount, primarily because it didn't let me position my TV exactly where I want. I've hung at least a dozen TVs over the years, and I have to say that this one is on the bottom of the list when it comes to my favorite designs. Out of the box, it's all there - the wall bracket, the TV brackets, lag screws, washers, spacers, etc. If you're installing into a wood-framed or concrete wall, you should have all that you need. ECHOGEAR sells a separate kit for installing into metal studs such as you find in many commercial sites, but that's an add-on extra. Since TVs are getting lighter and lighter, I suppose many people might try installing into drywall with toggle bolts or similar - that's also not included, but by all means, be careful if you go down this path to make sure the installation is strong enough to support your TV. ECHOGEAR also supplies detailed instructions so that even those that have never hung a TV should have no trouble. Like their product descriptions and website, the install documentation is written in a ketchy style that's quite different from the poor foreign translations we often see with these products. Unlike many wall mounts, the wall bracket itself is shipped as several separate pieces you have to assemble - no doubt to help the product fit into a smaller package. It was no big deal, just an extra step compared to many competing products. Otherwise, I'd say overall construction quality and fit and finish are above average, and there are plenty of useful additions, such as an adequate supply of screws and spacers that are all clearly labeled so as to make it simple to know what to use for your own TV. ECHOGEAR includes a template to make drilling the holes for the mounting screws a little easier. I have mixed feelings - the actual wall bracket isn't so heavy that it's bothersome to use it as a template...typically what I do is drill the first hole and secure the wall bracket loosely to the wall by putting a lag bolt through that first hole. From there, I use a level (these days, I tend to use a digital inclinometer - they're cool little gadgets!) and raise or lower the other end to the bracket until it's exactly level. Drill a second hole and put the next bolt in and it hangs perfectly. Finally, just repeat with the bottom bolts and you're done. Where I struggled with this device was in trying to mount it in a way that let me precisely place my TV where I need it. I have a 52" area between two windows, and I needed to hang a TV that's about 48" wide, so there's not a lot of leeway here. Unfortunately, the ECHOGEAR wall bracket is fairly narrow, but it still has to span two studs spaced 16" apart, and on my wall, that meant I couldn't hang the bracket centered in the area where I wanted it. Thinking I could just slide the TV left or right on the wall bracket to get the position I wanted, I proceeded to give it a try but it didn't work for me. My studs are spaced 16", but the layout is such that I either had to put the wall bracket about 8" off-center either to the right or to the left. Easy enough, but once I did this, I found out that the rails only allow you to slide the TV left/right by a maximum of about 5-6". Apparently, this is intentional - the central part of the wall bracket blocks the TV from moving to the extreme right or left of the mount, though the limits are probably different depending on how far apart the mounting holes on your TV are. For me, the bottom line was that my studs required the bracket to be installed about 8" to the side of center, but I could only position the TV 5" to compensate...in other words, whatever I did, there was no way to get my TV in the center of the space I have. Since there are window frames to either side, I simply could not use this mount. I thought about switching to drywall anchors or opening up the wall to put in some extra bracing that would allow me to hang the wall bracket more in the center. This seemed like a lot of work, so in the end, I just gave up - I took down another TV I have and swapped its mount (a Sanus) for the ECHOGEAR. The Sanus is a more conventional and wider mount, and it had had no trouble spanning the stud spacing while keeping the mount centered and letting me put the TV exactly where I want it. I did use the ECHOGEAR to replace the Sanus bracket I relocated, and I had no trouble with that second installation - turns out the stud placement on that wall is much more friendly to the ECHOGEAR's limitations. In 20 minutes, I had the ECHOGEAR up, and it seems to be doing a fine job of holding my 65" LG OLED, roughly an 80-pound TV. For me, the primary thing is security, and the ECHOGEAR seems as solid as any mount I've used. I don't like mounts that make your TV wobble a bit when someone walks by...and the ECHOGEAR has none of this. It was also fairly straightforward to actually hang the TV, though this is generally a two-person job depending on how big your TV is. I also like the ability to level your TV after installation simply by turning a few screws, so there's a lot to like about this ECHOGEAR mount. My LG is very thin - it's just under 2" from the screen surface to the back of the TV. The ECHOGEAR mount adds about two more inches, so the face of the TV ends up approximately 4" from the wall surface in my case. For whatever reason, the same TV on the no-frills Sanus mount was about an inch closer to the wall when mounted in the same spot. The TV also rests at a slight downward angle of about 2 degrees. This is probably helpful in many rooms to minimize screen reflections, but I would have liked to see a way to adjust the tilt angle to meet your needs as some other brands do. Keep in mind that a fixed mount unit like this ECHOGEAR can make it a challenge to get all your TV connections in place. There's not a lot of room behind the TV once you hang it, and depending on your TV and how many connections you need to make, it's not simple to get everything wired...in some cases, you almost need a third person - two to hold the TV while one plugs everything in. If you find this daunting, an articulating mount can be easier, since it generally gives you enough clearance to get to your cables, outlets and so on. The ECHOGEAR isn't a bad product, but if you need to place your TV very accurately, I'd recommend that you carefully verify everything from your stud spacing to the size of the mounting holes on your TV to make sure it will fit where you want. ... show more

  • my first wall mount
This was my first wall mount for a basement remodel. Ive never wanted to use these because ive seen the horror pictures of fallen tvs from the cheaper products and ive even returned a few after seeing how flimsy the metal is from other sellers. This metal felt much more solid and being bolted down by lag bolts into a stud was much more secure than the weak screws of other variants. After everything was set and done it came out perfect and allowed for minor level adjustments in the end also. My only issue was my samsung tv. The screws were either too long or too short and the spacers were too much or too little so i ended up adding a few extra washers from a local store to make up the difference. Not the cleanest but it worked out in the end. My samsung tv was a 55" from like 2018 with those center Y bases which made it rocky even when on a shelf. This holds it more stable than its ever bin and thankfully the vesa slots fit considering it was literally end to end of the mounting bracket on the tv side. Good stuff and will definitely get another if i ever need it. The instructions are also in clean english with some humor which is a relief considering the poorly translated drop shopped other products lol. ... show more
