If you have any sort of hand arthritis or similar, this product is the bees knees - it is a lifesaver. Just push the paper into the slot, and presto. You can also set it to manual to push the top to staple, but I prefer the automatic. Holds a whole strip of staples.

I bought the Optima 45 about one year ago and typically have been using it 40 to 80 times per week, occasionally using it up to 50 times in one day. Most of the time I'm only stapling 2 to 10 sheets together, but occasionally I staple as many as 25 sheets. I've never had the need to staple 45 sheets, so I don't know how well it works at full capacity, but it easily handles 25 sheets of 20 lb paper. In the entire year that I have been using it, it has only jammed once, and that was partially my fault for pulling out the paper while it was still in motion. I have been very pleased by the tight and flat stapling that reduces the bulge that you normally get when stacking a pile of stapled papers. The "optima" staples that are recommended for this stapler are a bit pricey, but do seem to perform well. Overall I am very satisfied with this stapler, which works much better than my previous one manufactured by another company.

I ordered the Swingline Optima 45 Electric Stapler, 45 Sheet Capacity, Silver (S7048209) for $46. CONS: - NOT battery operated as described. - The stapler is HUGE! My co-works cannot stop teasing me about this stapler on steroids. Plus, it takes up an excessive amount of space on the desk. - The stapler lights up for some reason, and has no on/off switch. You have to unplug the stapler after each use, which is simply inconvenient for an electric stapler. Having constant glowing orange lights on the stapler is silly. - Does not staple anywhere near 45 pages. Had trouble with 20 pages. - Sensitive - If you press down on the top, it staples. So by moving it or touching it, it staples - which can cause jams when no paper is inserted. PROS: - Takes standard staples. - The staple storage area is convenient. - The depth guide on the side is very easy to use. - Feels sturdy and durable. - You can set it easily to staple automatically when you insert the paper, or manually by pressing it lightly on the top when ready to staple. Overall, I cannot see any use for such a large sized stapler. I paid $45, because I wanted it to staple 40 sheets, but it does not come close. I'll keep looking for the perfect electric stapler.

For ten years I have been an unhappy purchaser of various semi expensive manual staplers to include Swingline. I purchased this stapler after seeing a similar model used in a store and asking them how it held up. They said they use it for every customer and that it had been working for several years. I purchased the 20 sheet model as I seldom staple more than 20 at a time. I only wish that I had purchased this or a similar model years ago. I use it with the batteries as I need to move it around on occasion. The batteries have held up well and the stapler itself has not not malfunctioned once. I have been using the Optima staples which may have negated problems with lesser quality staples. The stapler saves me time and aggravation as the manual staplers always had some sort of glitch that prevented them from cycling properly. I had far more malfunctions with the manual Swingline staplers; this one for me. is dead reliable. It was a bit of a surprise to me that this stapler with the Optima staplers will go through 26-27 pages without any issues.

The Swingline stapler I purchased has a Bright Red LED light that cannot be turned off if using the A/C Plug in. That light is very bright and cannot be turned off while the unit is plugged in. If using the battery back-up as the power the Red LED light is OFF. The stapler itself works as designed. It also has a setting for Auto or Manual. In Auto the unit staples paper automatically when placed in the staple slot. Manual requires you to manually press the button (surrounded by the red LED Light) to staple the papers inserted in the staple slot. I just wish there was a way to turn off the red light. That would raise the ***'s to 5 instead of the 4 i rated it.

Swingline exceeded my expectations: Works great, I use the premium staples in it, have never jammed on me. Can be used with batteries, which is useful on some desks with limited outlets/space. However, I prefer to plug it in to show off the cool lighting. I love the feature of the adjustable stop. You can change where on the paper the staple activates by moving the adjustable stop and trip sensor forward or back. You can also activate manually by pressing on the top. This has a smaller form factor than generic models I have used in the past, but this more reliable and powerful. It has the added bonus of a built-in staple remover; just pop it out to use it, and place it back to keep a tidy desk! If you want to be the ENVY of your OFFICE SPACE, this is the machine to get!

We're in the initial stages of testing here- but we have maxed out to 46 sheets with no problem. It's already becoming coveted among the office staff. One new stapler and all of a sudden you have all these friends you didn't know you had... Kristen from accounting wouldn't show me the time of day the first 9 times I asked her out; now she is at my desk all the time. It really just isn't fair. With the lights off, it gives a mean orange glow that it's just waiting to bind copious sheets of paper together. I bought 4 tins of Optima staples- 3,750 count tins- that's 15,000 staples in all. I could effectively staple 675,000 sheets of paper in 7,000 45 sheet packets if I so chose... and with the "auto" function; not even break a sweat. It's like it KNOWS. This thing had one job- and despite other reviews- it does it. And it don't stop.
