I use random hardware all the time both at work and at home. I can't even tell you how many times I purchased the wrong hardware because I misjudged the size or grabbed course threads when I needed fine threads. Up until this EAWONGEE set, I have been using a plastic card that has various holes and thread lines marked on it, and that's been my go-to for figuring out a what size hardware I'm working with. It works decent but even that has misled me and it's completely worthless if I'm trying to measure a bolt/nut that's still installed and difficult to get to. This set has made my little plastic card obsolete. I wish I would have known about this years ago! The set has 26 different pieces, 14 of them SAE (colored blue) and 12 metric (colored red). One side of each piece has male threads (bolt) and the other side has female (nut). They're all clearly marked on the side with white easy to read numbers that tell you what sizes they are and there are even course and fine thread versions of common sizes (like 1/4-20 and 1/4-28). All of the pieces have a through-hole down the center that lets them thread together onto the included steel cable that has a loop on one end and a clamp on the other. Each of the pieces is separated by a little gold bead that keeps them from rubbing against each other and gives you a little room to use a single piece while rotating its neighbors out of the way a little. I've already used this set way more than I thought I would and it's a HUGE time saver. It really shines when I'm putting away the pile of hardware on my desk and can't remember what's what. For only $20.59 (at the time of this review) I think this is a fantastic set and I'll probably purchase a second set to keep at work. My ONLY very minor gripe is the threaded cable system is a little inconvenient if you need to remove one of the pieces to use on a piece of captive hardware. They come off easy but then you have to thread them all back on, along with the beads. That's a minor gripe for an awesome and affordable tool that has already made my life so much easier. Also, they give you plenty of extra cable length to work with so you can loosen the clamp and let the individual pieces spread way out if you need to isolate one more while still keeping it on the cable. Quick pro tip: an easy way to keep them together is to get a piece of stiff wire that's a slightly smaller diameter and transfer them over by sliding them directly off the cable onto the smaller wire. This makes it a lot easier than putting them all back on individually. Overall I'm super impressed with this thread checker set and would definitely recommend it!

When this first arrived I thought I would test the sizes with the tap and die set I own. There where two male thread and one female thread that did not fit my tap/dies. I first thought it was an issue with this product. So I went out and purchased a few nuts and bolts to check the product. To my surprise I had two dies and one tap that did not thread onto a store bought bolt/nut. Just so happens those same ones are the ones that did not fit on this product. So this product gets 5 stars as it should. I like the cable connector as it keeps them all in one place and allows you to hang it for easy access. The thumb screw allows easy access if you need to remove one to test somehting in a tight spot.

Threads are clean. No burrs and a nice coating on them. Each gauge is in order and color coordinated by type. This is a handy little tool to have in the box. While looking over the lot however, I did locate a mistake. The 3/8-24 is marked as 318-24. That would be a huge nut/bolt. But otherwise, looks great. Great way to organize your loose hardware bin or quick reference threads under 1/2 inch or M12 in size.

This is a conveniently sized assortment of both standard and metric thread checkers for general household applications. It makes quick work of matching and finding nut, bolt, and machine screw sizes so a proper replacement can be ordered and purchased, With more and more online purchases, many no longer go to the hardware store where they can bring a sample bolt and just try different sized replacements until a match is found. Nowadays, you have to know the thread diameter and pitch to order replacements online, and this quick thread checker makes it easy. Each size includes, of course both a male and female end so that both screws and nuts can be easily matched. The individual pieces are made of aluminum and are clearly marked and sufficiently accurately threaded for most household tasks. Since most fasteners for general household applications are cheaply made stamped and rolled threads anyway, sometimes the fit it is a bit loose, but typically close enough that an accurate identification can be made. Some smaller fasteners are very close between standard (English) and metric, so care has to be taken not to mis-identify those fasteners that are closely similar, but in most cases, it is relatively obvious. When identifying an unknown thread size, the proper gauge will thread on with absolutely nothing more than slight finger pressure turning. If it binds even a tiny bit, it’s probably the wrong gauge for the fastener or the fastener has damaged threads. If you “force” it even a tiny bit, because the gauges are made of relatively soft aluminum, you will distort the gauge threads, so take care. Properly used, they work just great.

I've always wanted one of these tools to have around for when I break or lose hardware, or I strip out a rusted head and I need to get the correct sized replacement and to be better prepared when making one trip to the hardware store and one only. Sorry, I can't eyeball sizes with 100% certainty, so this tool fits the need for me. There are a wide variety of metric and standard sizes to cover many of your projects. It's lightweight anodized aluminum construction for individual sizes on a steel cable with each size separated by a gold bead. The cabled tool is permanently clamped on one end, with a collar and a crimped wingnut on all-thread on the other (so you can take it apart???). One gripe I have is that the free end is just cut and prone to fraying--it could use a ferrule to prevent that, but then it would make it difficult to remove the bits. Overall, a very useful tool.
