  • High quality
Love these reeds since they make playing saxaphone (for an old guy) much easier.

  • Better than expected, might be a good blend of cost and quality.
I'll start off acknowledging my bias against "cheap" reeds. As a band teacher (beginning through high school), I've seen far too many students hampered by their folks trying to save a few dollars--they often end up with a box of 10 reeds for half the price, but only 1 or 2 reeds out of that box give a consistent sound. Though it hurts my budget, we purchase "orange box" reeds in bulk for my middle school students who are using school instruments--about 70% of my students are below the poverty line and use school instruments, which means providing reeds as well--those reeds prove to be reasonably consistent and get student to the point they're able to assess for themselves if the sound issue they're trying to correct is the instrument, their embouchure, or the reed. Now that's acknowledged, these are pretty decent reeds. My first check is if the cut is symmetrical (many cheap reeds are much thinner on one edge than the other). These passed that test. My second check is to soak them and see if they warp. These passed that test too. At that point, I tried one and shared two others with two of my high school beginners. All three got a decent sound out of the box, though I did end up shaving a bit from my reed to improve the response, and recommended the same for the two I shared. For me, an "ideal" reed for beginners would be one that requires little or no adjustments. These aren't as "cheap" as the cheapest reeds on here, but they're also not much cheaper than the typical name brands. For myself and my students, we'll probably stick with the name brands, but I wouldn't cringe if a student brought these in. ... show more

  • These surprisingly blew me away!
The thing with Reeds is that they need to be made meticulously in order to vibrate properly and work well. That's why people typically steer clear of "off-brands" and work with name brands, or reeds that have a great reputation. I went ahead and tried these reeds out, and let me tell you, I was blown away! This Reed (I picked strength 2.0) worked especially well with my Rico Graftonite C7. The tip opening is 0.105" (267mm) and its facing is 0.944" (24mm). This is roughly a 7* tip opening. The Chamber is small. By pairing this Reed with the Graftonite C7, I achieved a bright, gritty sound, and it was easier to do a lip-out embouchure. This combo also packs a large amount of power, perfect for playing in an echoy place without a mic. This reed will not match with closed mouthpieces like the Yamaha 4c or the Bari Espirit, or classical-like mouthpieces like BetterSax Classic or Fobes Debut. The exception to this would be a beginning student who does not have a lot of air strength, then they may be able to use this on a Yamaha 4c. Overall, I thought this reed would be another "off-brand" reed, but this reed blew me away! ... show more

  • Way better than expected!
I didn't know what to expect from these reeds, but they ended up working really well and had a good sound right out of the box. I'm not a professional tenor player by any means, but I would definitely consider buying these again. The cut is symmetrical on these reeds, so they aren't cheaply made. For the price, you can't go wrong getting these. ... show more

  • Played well right out of the box.
Reeds are a very subjective matter, so take my review with a grain of salt; and try a box for yourself. They are nice reeds. The cost is about half of what I would normally expect to pay, and they worked for me. To really know how good they are I will have to play them for a long time, but right out of the box they performed as, to better than, expected. My testing method was to pick two random samples, soak them, and play them without adjustment. I first warmed up a little with my normal 3H-4 reeds for a few minutes, then tried the new reeds. I mostly noodled around, testing the range, playing scales, trying low and high notes at different dynamics & with the slightly different embouchures I might use depending on the type of sound desired. I did not use every reed in the box. They immediately felt pretty good so I may as well use them as needed. If I feel differently later, I will add to my review. But, for now I'm happy with them, and will consider buying them. At this point, I would not hesitate to recommend trying them out. You might really like them. If I were to teach beginning band again, I would stock up. Only downside, I found it difficult to read the reed strength on the side of the box due to tiny print. ... show more

  • Better than expected!
I had the chance to try the reeds and really was expecting not to like them. I was quite surprised how well these reeds are playing. Intonation is easy and the 3.0 strength is about the same as my usual 3.0. Very good, especially considering the price. I have tried both the Traditional and the Jazz variants of these reeds and very impressed with both. For the price you can't go wrong . ... show more

  • Good reeds, wrong sax
Chalk it up to a newbie mistake, but we ordered these for an Alto sax. Regardless, no problems with our order or these reeds, though they didn't exactly get play time.

  • Great reeds
Size: 3.0 Color: Jazz
My son is enjoying these reeds for jazz band. He has commented that they allow him to get the full range of notes easily, especially low notes. He said the reeds do have a jazzy sound to them and have made a difference in his music, like it takes you from a 10 to an 11!
