I got the red one. I love the horn. I've owned many trombones, 45 at one point. My favorite is an Urbie Green Martin. I've owned 2B's and many other small bore tenors. This horn is not bad at all! The partials line up. The tuning is very good. The slide was smooth out of the box. The finish was flawless. The color is beautiful! Everything functions perfectly. Maybe I got lucky. I don't know if they are all this good. I may order a blue one. The price is insanely low! I think it is way better than a plastic horn, of which I have many. It weighs about what a Yamaha 354 or King 606 student horn weighs. With mouthpiece, those student horns weigh an average of 3.40 lbs. This one weighs 3.48 lbs, so very comparable. I don't know about how long it will last. But it's great for now. By the way, the bell is exactly 7.75" which is in my opinion, perfect for a small tenor. My big complaint is the glue that was used inside the case. It was the worst mess I've ever seen. It took me 3 hours to scrape out all the glue, and basically rebuild the inside of the case. It is cheap, with cloth-covered styrofoam but it fits the horn nicely and is not bad. Most decent cases cost as much as this horn and case together, so you can't get too upset about the case. The outside should have bumpers on the bell end to stand the case up. I may put my own on it. It looks fine now, and I'll see how it holds up. Come on Eastrock, use some better glue next time! Still a great deal though, and I may buy a blue horn next!

We decided to replace our teen son’s old hand me down trombone with this one. It is not meant to be used professionally, and for us that is a plus because we have an angst-y teenager who is not careful with his instrument, so I am not ready to invest thousands on an instrument. If he decides in high school that he wants to pursue music, then I will buy him a Bach or Jupiter or Yamaha. For now this is a good looking instrument that has a nice slide and sound for a great price. The hard shell case is very nice with both soft and rigid foam on the inside covered with fake fur. Came with white cotton gloves and a small container of slide lube.

Have several large bore horns that I mainly play but wanted this for when I get invited on Alumni days to play with my college's marching/pep bands. At this price, it's a playable trombone which I won't be too upset if I get a small dent or two. Bought the red version as it's my school color. Had been using a pbone, but ultimately don't like its tone and playability. I think the manufacturer's listing is spot on. It's exactly as described. The horn is a beginner's instrument. It does play well and has a decent tone for a trombone in this price point. As other's have indicated, the slide is a bit stiff and takes some effort to get it where its workable. My biggest suggestion, especially for a beginner is to get a decent mouthpiece. I am an experienced player and had trouble getting a good sound from the included one. Intonation is pretty bad with it. I can see a beginner getting frustrated quickly. I pulled out a reliable Bach 6 1/2 AL to use and it played 100% better and with much more ease. BTW, contrary to another reviewer, this is a small bore horn that takes a small shank mouthpiece.

I had been looking for a trombone to practice with my son, who has a Bach. I had heard of all the warnings of “music instrument shaped objects” online and while I was almost tempted to get a ridiculously cheap trombone with soft case or a plastic instrument, the price of this with a hard case was very reasonable. Immediately the case looked good. The bell portion was slightly smaller than the Union Station case my son has and lacks “feet” to stand up on the bell side but the case can still stand on it’s end, but it isn’t 100% stable oriented like this because the one of the attachments for a shoulder strap are on the bottom. I had decided to go with a nickel plated one vs gold lacquered instrument and it looked great right out of the package. The assembly of the spit valve felt good and when I attached the slide, it screwed on nicely and stayed firm. Most reviews I had read regarding this trombone cited poor or inconsistent slide quality. I had found the slide moved very smoothly and did not make much noise while moving. There was very slight wiggle but felt within the normal amount of give. As for sound, when compared to the Bach I found the sound very comparable, if not the same. When playing a scale side by side it sounded very good and i got some good tone out of the instrument. While I am a beginner and not a brass player, I thought this instrument very approachable and for the price a perfect introductory instrument. It sounded good and felt good and looked good. The hard case is a bonus because while a soft case would protect it just the same, I feel much better having a hard case.

Absolutely awful customer service! got the black one for my sixth grader for use in band instead of his school rental. I wanted him to feel a little more motivated to practice and feel special having his own, cool looking instrument. It kinda worked. He loved it at first, and it does at first look cool. But after just a little use, the black is coming off all over his hands. It gets a lot worse when he has to put grease on the slide, which is kind of essential. And he's a kid, so of course, if his hands are messy, it gets all over his music and his clothes, etc. Of course, this was mostly happening in school, so I was unaware of the issue until after the return window was over. I have reached out to the company twice via email to see if I can exchange it or at least for a suggestion for preventing it. We can't be the only people with this issue. But both times, my email comes back saying "The recipient server did not accept out request to connect". Eastrock, did you go belly up? What happened to the customer service you rave about?

OK: looks cool, especially with a gold mouthpiece. Sounds pretty good for the money. But man oh man, the slide is really pretty stiff. I've swabbed it out 3 times so far and lubed it back up, but it still accumulates black junk right at the stocking. I'm contemplating sending it back, but I'm willing to try a few more times. But an ordinary kid would probably be discouraged and want to quit right away. UPDATE: I upgraded to 3 stars after working with the slide. After using a slide brush 3 times, I started using slide cream, then working with it (i.e., play some VanderCook or other exercise), then completely wiping the slide down to remove "black gunk" from the stocking. After doing that several more times, I stopped using the cream (after diminishing returns on the buildup), and I switched to silicone droplets and water spray. Now the slide is working pretty well, although maybe just a little noisy. I expect that with just a little more work, it will be close to perfect. But I can't go above 3 because it took so much work. I can't recommend it for a beginner, unless you're willing to get the slide worked on before the beginner tries it. OBTW, I forgot to mention that the case is really nice. And it comes with a swab for cleaning the inside of the slide.
