  • Recommended by my AC service company.
My house was built 13 years ago and I've used the fancy filters for the entire time. I've also had the same AC and heating service people coming every year since the beginning. A few years ago, my service guy said I didn't need the fancy ones and that they were hindering air flow. He recommended I go with these kind and change them monthly. I ignored the advice, thinking the super fancy ones had to be superior. This last year, I had one of my two main units replaced (I have a split system, one on each level), and again, the service guy said I was hindering airflow with too fine a mesh and even looked these specifically up to say which ones he recommended. I asked about pollen and dander and other invisible terrors that my fancy filter took out and he sort of rolled his eyes at me a bit and said, "Really? You do vacuum your floors, right?" And since those filters took every single thing out of the air, they also lowered air flow very quickly. So, I figured I should switch. Holy macaroni, what a difference. That pressure banging as my too-fancy filters slammed in their seating during cycling is gone. I change the filters every month, rather than every two months, and bonus, these cost soooooo much less. Very pleased! ... show more

  • MERV 4 is not enough filtration IMO.
I bought these thinking my airflow would improve and I would save energy. All of that would be initially accomplished with a MERV 4 but there's not enough filtration happening with a MERV 4. The improved efficiency will soon be negated. I preformed a simple side by side test with a Flanders MERV 4 and a Flanders MERV 8. I dusted some salt onto both and blew lightly onto them to mimic air being pulled through by the blower. The MERV 4 let about 90 percent of the salt through and the MERV 8 didn't let any through. So I immediately replaced the filter and put in a new Flanders MERV 8 which I've been using for years. I've been getting good enough performance with the MERV 8 and it keeps the coil very clean. I wanted to try to see if the 4 would also keep it clean and improve airflow at the same time but I'm sure the coil would get very dirty ver quickly. Dirt kills HVACs. Also, if you have a more modern HVAC system, chances are it has an ECM controlled fan and therefore you will not see a big difference in air flow going from a MERV 8 down to a MERV 4 ... show more

  • They are exactly what your HVAC system wants
I am just going to be opening my second case at the end of this month. The case I just finished lasted me 13 months and I’ll probably get 12 months on the new one and I couldn’t be more pleased with these filters! I can get similar filters for about the same price at local big box home improvement stores but they are just junk, I wouldn’t even use them so as to not waste them! These filters are sturdy and the media is thick and substantial with it all in a pretty sturdy frame with a metal mesh retaining wall. I have had the glue separate in the upper corner while I was installing them; trying to get it in there perfectly but it is nothing to worry about it will still work the same as it would if it hadn’t happened. These are just what I was hoping to find, a case of the same type of filters that I was told by the company that installed my heating/cooling system that is priced reasonably cheap! I check the old ones out after each month when I change them out and I can see that it was collecting the particals that were flowing throughout the system. These seem like they are just about catching everything that flows through them and they do weigh more than the new one that is going into its place so they are holding a lot of debris and I feel like they are just getting the right balance of proper airflow and filtering out my air. I look into the blower and I can see that everything is clean and not dust covered inside of my furnace! So I definitely can see that these filters are doing there job! ... show more

  • My HVAC Guy Said Get Something With a Higher MERV Rating
I had an HVAC guy come out to install a new thermostat in my energy efficient house. While installing it, he looked up at my AC vent- didn’t even unhinge the vent and said you need an air filter with a higher MERV rating as it was too transparent and would make me have to replace my AC unit faster. Insert panic emoji here as I still had 10 filters in the box I live in TX and have recently turned on the AC and forgot to switch out my filter 3+ months ago. It’s just me, my sloppy housekeeping, and a shorthair black cat. But when I put in the new filter the old one was almost interchangeable with the new one. Well made product, good price, and good packaging, but my HVAC guy doesn’t recommend them for my place. ... show more

  • Thin and a bit flimsy
My furnace repair guy said I needed thinner filters so as not to overheat my system. So I got these and I'm sure these are the thinnest you can get. Some arrived slightly bent, but they will still work. They really jam them in the box tight so be careful pulling the first one out that you don't accidentally damage the others. They seem fairly fragile. But this is what I wanted. Definitely not like the thicker allergy filters I was using, that is for sure. But according to my furnace guy, although they will not trap as much stuff, it may help my furnace not to run so hotly. So I'm giving it a shot. ... show more

  • Its a furnace filter ish
Kinda obvious right, well maybe not. The trend has been to turn a heating/cooling furnace into a home air filter system right. If you have allergies etc it helps i am sure BUT if you have an older furnace and you put a high MERV filter on you will very likely damage your furnace because the airflow becomes very restricted because of the level of filtration used. I had a MERV 5 filter and i thought i would try one of these which i think is somewhere between 3 and 4. The result a higher AND quieter airflow because the furnace is not having to work so hard; its actually MORE efficient. My furnace is not new and i think 95% efficent. Yup they need changing every month but they are cheap enough, do not be tempted to leave a filter for a few months before changing if you want to keep your bills low. So cheap, simple and protects the furnace from dust and dirt etc, perfect. Update Well the filter was in a month and when i checked it there was no sign that it had stopped anything it looked new. Now you would expect some color change right. So ok i had one of my Merv 5 filters left and swapped them round. result the Merv 5 pulled out a lot of dust. So lesson learned switch back to Merv 5! ... show more
