Description

IntroductionDe Havilland Canada developed the DHC-6 Twin Otter in 1965. Designed as a rugged STOL (Short Take-Off and Landing) commuter aircraft, the Twin Otter carried passengers and cargo into harsh environments like the sub- zero Antarctic and the scorching North African desert. Viking Air Limited purchased the Type Certificates for all out-of-production de Havilland aircraft in 2005 and announced the Viking Series 400 Twin Otter Production Program two years later. By mid-2015, Viking re-established the Twin Otter as a successful commuter airliner. The E-flite® UMX™ Twin Otter is an ultra-micro class scale replica that can be the perfect first twin-powered model for intermediate to experienced RC pilots. It's convenient and easy to fly, and is outfitted with functional features including LED navigation and landing lights, twin brushless motors with counter-rotating 3-blade props – plus it can be equipped with optional floats to fly from pools, ponds, and lakes! • Great flier
Great small plane and flies very smoothly. Program the available flaperons and is flies remarkably slow when desired. Works especially great with optional floats. Steering in water is outstanding due to proportional thrust. Highly recommend

  • Plane started smoking
I hooked up this plane To an 850 man 1s when I left for a minute and then my throttle wasn’t working. I tried to fix it but It ended up almost catching fire. Never got to fly it but I have hear that is is a very good plane.

  • Great twin engine
I have been flying RC for a few decades now. It has been interesting how the sport has changed, especially for building and using fuel to today's foamies and electric power. This little Twin Otter is a ball to fly, at full throttle it is pretty fast. The motors have differential thrust and it is really effective in a small and light plane. I was surprised to see no rudder control when I received it but it flies great. This is not a beginners plane, you need some experience. However, it is well worth the purchase. ... show more

  • Great lovely plane. Spare props please... 2nd review
I purchased this plane 4 times now. I lost the first one about after 70 flights. The prop of my second plane was broken. I fixed it myself but it created bad vibration leading to the motor part broken. Why is it so hard to get the spare props? Please let me get some spare props next time. This is a great plane to fly in a park. I'm not a very experienced RC flyer, but I can fly this in the SAFE mode easily. I change the mode to AS3X and do some rolls and loops, and back to safe mode. I only fly this bird these days. Other planes are abandoned in the garage. :-D I flew the 4th plane more than 75 times now. One of the batteries is slightly puffy. I'm watching it carefully. I lost the 3rd plane in the sky while just temporarily looking at my watch. I feel very comfortable with flying UMX Twin Otter. I broke one blade of the right prop recently. I used crazy glue to fix it and it flies ok now. The prop sound is slightly different from the original one's, but it looks flying fine. I have spare landing gears. I need the spare props badly. Why is it so hard to purchase? I always see the item out of stock in Amazon. Horizon hobby doesn't ship it outside of US. I'm even thinking about using a 3D printer to make one by myself LOL. I'm not sure which plane is best as my next bird. I also liked Wltoys Xk X520. I flew it more than 200 times. It was so easy to fix the fuselage and replace the parts. I lost it and ordered one again. ... show more

  • Great Plane......when all parts work
This was my 4th UMX plane from EFlite that I bought this year. Honestly, when it does fly, it is an AMAZING aircraft. Handles extremely well, lands smooth as butter, and has all the performance you could ever want from this type of plane. Now to the issues: I first got this plane for a birthday gift. After opening a few days before my birthday and hooking up my 800 mah 1S spektrum battery, the plane came on and then immediately off and stopped responding. After trying a few more times and getting nothing when plugging it in, I got a replacement from Amazon. The second plane stayed wrapped up till my actual birthday. Fast forward a week later and my maiden flight, in mid flight, the left aileron servo stops working and is stuck in the full down position. THANKFULLY, I was able to land it safely and in one piece and filed for a return. Because of how much I love the UMX planes and REALLY wanted a dual rotor, I decided to order a 3rd one while my second return was being processed. Upon opening the 3rd box, I noticed the elevator was in the stuck down position. The horn for the elevator was twisted slightly and was further down the push rod. I fixed that issue and proceeded to bind to the plane. Everything worked! I then did a test flight down my street and everything was functioning perfectly. Packed up all of my planes and went out to the field. Upon installing a new battery, the elevator stopped functioning. It is locked in a full down position and just makes a loud grinding/whining noise when powered. I am absolutely astonished that I have had 3 planes in a row all with DIFFERENT DEFECTS. I have now requested a return for my 3rd plane and will more than likely be waiting until there is an updated version of this plane to purchase it a 4th time. EDIT: Just got a 4th one from my local hobby store. First flight, everything works fine. Rebind with new battery, elevator servo no longer works. You have GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. Disclosure, I own the following Horizon Hobby products: Sport Cub S, UMX Trojan, Blade 150 S, Blade cPX, Blade mcPX, UMX Pitts, UMX P51 Voodoo, UMX Timber Turbo Evo X. ... show more
