Description

ADVANCING ELECTRIC FLIGHT E-flite aircraft are developed by experts who love electric power and flying as much as you. They know the kind of quality and performance you desire most and combine exacting standards in design with the best materials to build state-of-the-art aircraft – from top-of-the-line trainers to a wide range of sport and scale models. Visit the Store Visit the Store De Havilland Canada developed the DHC-6 Twin Otter in 1965. Designed as a rugged STOL (Short Take-Off and Landing) commuter aircraft, the Twin Otter carried passengers and cargo into harsh environments like the sub-zero Antarctic and the scorching North African desert. Viking Air Limited purchased the Type Certificates for all out-of-production de Havilland aircraft in 2005 and announced the Viking Series 400 Twin Otter Production Program two years later. By mid-2015, Viking re-established the Twin Otter as a successful commuter airliner. The E-flite UMX Twin Otter is an ultra-micro class scale replica that can be the perfect first twin-powered model for intermediate to experienced RC pilots. It's convenient and easy to fly, and is outfitted with functional features including LED navigation and landing lights, twin brushless motors with counter-rotating 3-blade props – plus it can be equipped with optional floats to fly from pools, ponds, and lakes! There's no better choice for RC pilots who want a great first – or next – twin model than the E-flite UMX Twin Otter! It delivers exciting "bush plane" scale looks and performance and the inherent stability of a high-wing design. Because of its convenient ultra-micro size, it can be flown in more places and smaller spaces, including in many yards, parks, and sports fields. You can even remove the landing and install the optional floats (sold separately) to fly from pools, ponds, and lakes! Along with molded-in panel lines, corrugated control surfaces, and a scale-inspired trim scheme, the UMX Twin Otter is also equipped with scale-looking LED navigation and landing lights and exclusive AS3X and SAFE Select technologies. Plus, the brushless motors – with counter-rotating 3-blade props – are compatible with common and affordable 1S 500–800mAh batteries also used for the UMX Ultrix and other popular models. The E-flite UMX Twin Otter offers a truly unique flying experience a wide range of pilots can enjoy! Fully Factory-Assembled In The Box Needed to Complete Already own a Spektrum transmitter? Bind-N-Fly (BNF) aircraft make getting into the air quickly and with the best control experience possible easier than ever. They come out of the box with the power system, servos, and a Spektrum 2.4GHz receiver installed, so all you need to do is bind the receiver to a compatible transmitter, finish any final assembly, and fly! This model features exclusive Spektrum AS3X and SAFE Select technologies. AS3X works behind the scenes to smooth out the effects of wind and turbulence to deliver a locked-in feel that makes it seem like you're flying a much larger airplane. Optional-use SAFE Select offers pitch and bank angle limits and automatic self-leveling that can be turned on and off at the flip of a switch to make this the easiest to fly Twin Otter replica yet! The UMX Twin Otter is equipped with a control unit/flight controller that includes two ESCs and a Spektrum receiver that provides real-time flight battery voltage telemetry to compatible Spektrum AirWare equipped transmitters (including the DX6e and 8e, DX6 G2/G3 and 8 G2, the DX9, NX6, 8 and 10, the iX12, iX20, and others) while you fly. Powerful twin brushless motors with counter-rotating three-blade props deliver an excellent power-to-weight ratio and long flight times with common and affordable 1S 500–800mah batteries. Differential thrust offers yaw control for easy ground handling and performing aerobatics. The UMX Twin Otter can be flown from paved and other smooth surfaces using the tricycle landing gear, or you can fly from water, including pools, ponds, and lakes, using the optional float set (sold separately). And whichever gear option you choose to fly with, both are easy to install and can be swapped out in minutes! Realistic-looking LED landing and navigation lights are factory-installed and powered from the flight battery to add to the scale look and flying experience. Construction with advanced EPS material delivers a lightweight yet durable airframe. In the unfortunate event you damage any airframe parts or components and can't repair them, a full line of replacement/spare parts is readily available.

  • Great twin engine
I have been flying RC for a few decades now. It has been interesting how the sport has changed, especially for building and using fuel to today's foamies and electric power. This little Twin Otter is a ball to fly, at full throttle it is pretty fast. The motors have differential thrust and it is really effective in a small and light plane. I was surprised to see no rudder control when I received it but it flies great. This is not a beginners plane, you need some experience. However, it is well worth the purchase. ... show more

  • Great Flyer
I'v had 3 of these. All three have flown the same right out of the box. It's extremely stable and fly's great in wind with the AS3X on. Take off's and landings are uneventful and with the differential thrust turns and ground handling are spot on. Don't let the small size fool you. This is a great flying plane that is just as fun to fly as my larger Otter. Floats are a must and quick to change over to. ... show more

  • First UMX and not sure if it was the right choice
I've been flying regular non-UMX planes for a while now and this Twin Otter is my first UMX. It is lighter than a feather. The foam feels extremely delicate, so I'm glad I purchased the toy coverage for this model, in case it crashes. Flight time is generally good: over 5 minutes on a cheap "800 mAh" battery. This model, more than anything I've flown, is extremely pitch sensitive to power inputs. I have everything from flat-wing planes that don't have any power-pitch coupling, to the opposite end of the spectrum: this. The Twin Otter UMX has a huge tendency for nose-up pitch when adding power, no matter the trim settings or the CG (via battery placement). I thought I'd want to disable AS3X (which you can't seem to do without connecting to a computer, anyway), but I've come to the conclusion that this plane is so twitchy that it absolutely needs AS3X. Don't plan on flying in anything more than 5mph winds. Calm days are highly preferred. Overall, it's a very detailed model, looks good, is capable of some aerobatics, but from what I've seen from others' experiences, will not survive a crash. ... show more

  • Great plane
Flies great. First order arrived used and damaged. Second was new. It had some marks on it which was probably from shipping and handling. Aside from that, its a 5star plane.

  • Love it
Probably my favorite UMX plane. So easy to fly, can do fast acrobatics and had neat lights. Can’t recommend it enough.

  • Not What I was Expecting
The plane was damaged with a cracked tale, and one of the engines was defective, it wasn't at all what I was expecting and I was very disappointed. I decided however to try again because I really want this plane in my collection. This is a 2 week turn around with shipping so I am hoping for better luck the second try. Amazon is great with returns, so we will see what happens? ... show more

  • Great Plane
Flies like a charm, so much power in it. No rudder only differential motor power instead of rudder which lets you make some tricks.

  • Great Plane......when all parts work
This was my 4th UMX plane from EFlite that I bought this year. Honestly, when it does fly, it is an AMAZING aircraft. Handles extremely well, lands smooth as butter, and has all the performance you could ever want from this type of plane. Now to the issues: I first got this plane for a birthday gift. After opening a few days before my birthday and hooking up my 800 mah 1S spektrum battery, the plane came on and then immediately off and stopped responding. After trying a few more times and getting nothing when plugging it in, I got a replacement from Amazon. The second plane stayed wrapped up till my actual birthday. Fast forward a week later and my maiden flight, in mid flight, the left aileron servo stops working and is stuck in the full down position. THANKFULLY, I was able to land it safely and in one piece and filed for a return. Because of how much I love the UMX planes and REALLY wanted a dual rotor, I decided to order a 3rd one while my second return was being processed. Upon opening the 3rd box, I noticed the elevator was in the stuck down position. The horn for the elevator was twisted slightly and was further down the push rod. I fixed that issue and proceeded to bind to the plane. Everything worked! I then did a test flight down my street and everything was functioning perfectly. Packed up all of my planes and went out to the field. Upon installing a new battery, the elevator stopped functioning. It is locked in a full down position and just makes a loud grinding/whining noise when powered. I am absolutely astonished that I have had 3 planes in a row all with DIFFERENT DEFECTS. I have now requested a return for my 3rd plane and will more than likely be waiting until there is an updated version of this plane to purchase it a 4th time. EDIT: Just got a 4th one from my local hobby store. First flight, everything works fine. Rebind with new battery, elevator servo no longer works. You have GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. Disclosure, I own the following Horizon Hobby products: Sport Cub S, UMX Trojan, Blade 150 S, Blade cPX, Blade mcPX, UMX Pitts, UMX P51 Voodoo, UMX Timber Turbo Evo X. ... show more
