  • have to set close to what you plan on recording
got it for recording class lectures, have to sit or set it close to the lecturer for good recording

  • This is the best
Has a standby battery life of nearly 2 full days if you turn the backlight down. Meaning you can pick it up and record instantly instead of waiting several seconds for it to power on. You can also scrub through recordings and overwrite sections with new audio right from the device. Way better than a Zoom H1n in my opinion. It seems to automatically do as much as it can to avoid clipping much like a phone does. The USB-c charging port is a major bonus too, since I can use my phone charger in a pinch. This is a certified 5 star gadget right here ladies and gentlemen. ... show more

  • Doesn't pick up as well as I'd hoped
I bought this from Best Buy. The sound isn't as great as I'd hope on playback from the device itself. If you plug it into the computer and play from a media player or audacity it's louder. I haven't tried a headset yet. I switched the format saved to mp3, and set it to mono instead of stereo, so that the mic I bought to go with it would record. Main purpose of use and purchase, is to record my upstairs neighbors stomping and screaming etc. It didn't record them screaming, but you can hear something that sounds like thumping the mic really hard (the stomping). I'll update this as I test it out. (this doesn't represent this seller, just the voice recorder) ... show more

  • Too quiet on playbacks.
This recorder is advertised for meetings. I tested the playback volume from recordings made at 1 foot, 4 feet and 8 feet, which are likely shorter distances than what a meeting might necessitate. The one foot recording was audible from the loudest playback setting. The 4 and 8 feet recordings were whisper audible on the loudest playback setting. The 8 feet was a struggle to make out what was said. There were no directions included in the package; I accessed the user manual online. I returned the recorder and received a full refund. ... show more

  • Better than many are saying here
This is a nice lightweight recorder. At least one reviewer said there is no manual, but there is. It is on the Philips website and provides a detailed guide to operation. Amazon does not allow website addresses to be included in reviews, I believe, but it can be found if you search for Philips dvt4110, go the Philips website, then support, then product support, then click on audio video recorders, scroll down to the model and click, then click on the support tab at the top of the page, and you will see the downloadable or web user manual. The navigation is insanely over-complicated, but it's there. Also, another reviewer mentioned that the recorded audio was too faint. There is a control in the menu (read the manual to find it) that changes the microphone sensitivity. If the recording is faint (low meter reading on screen), increase the sensitivity. Also, playback through the built-in speaker is extremely low, even with the volume turned all the way up. The speaker itself is TINY and you cannot expect to hear much of anything in a noisy environment. You can use headphones or use the headphone jack to connect to an amplifier or an external powered speaker. Either way, you can make it as loud as you want. Overall, a nice product. ... show more

  • False advertising! Worthless product! Dictation Software discontinued!
Can't even use the VoiceTracer for what I purchased it for. The product literature falsely indicates it includes Philips Speech Recognition Software DVT2805. The software is discontinued on Philips website and is not included in the packaging. The software isn't available anywhere else either as it is specifically made by Nuance Dragon Naturally Speaking as a special edition for voice recorders. When looking on Nuances website the only available options at the cheapest if the $200 Dragon Home. Hopefully someone will sue them for false advertising. ... show more
