  • Size, power, price, warranty.
Style: 7,000-Watt Dual Fuel
Very happy with my purchase. This 7000 start up / 5500 watt generator is not as loud as the open frame 4000 start up / 3500 watt I was using as an emergency back up. Not that it matters but it is a good looking gen. I like how small it is and that it comes with a retractable handle so it can be moved around like a big piece of luggage. Starts easy. ... show more

  • No Battery Tender
Style: 7,000-Watt Dual Fuel
I bought this generator for it has the KW’s, lighter weight for it’s size, a battery starter and an inverter, so my wife could handle if I’m gone. Well, it was missing the battery tender when delivered week before Christmas and still waiting on. It’s very hard for my wife to pull start. The 4” gas cap is very hard to get off so l bought a strap wrench to handle that. It is fairly easy to move around. We did lose power a week ago and I had 2 refrigerators, garage door opener, tv internet speaker system and misc table lamps hooked up and it ran fine with power to spare. It is also fairly quiet running in the low idle stage. I gave it a 4 for of little issues above. ... show more

  • Generator works, but missing battery tender and had a bad CO sensor
Style: 7,000-Watt Dual Fuel
Decent generator but it came new with missing battery tender, bad CO sensor, and company has poor communication. Still awaiting the battery tender. Generator itself runs nice and quiet with no issues as others have said, but it’s frustrating to drop a couple grand on a generator and have to take it apart to replace a faulty sensor from factory after going back and forth for months. Was promised the missing tender and sensor via 2 day shipping and it took a few months on the sensor and we are at almost 3 months and waiting on the tender. Customer service seems to never follow up on promises like a credit back to my Amazon account for the hassle or the instructions to replace the CO sensor (which I requested twice). I ended up figuring it out but broke a few tabs on the casing in the process. Until they figure out their quality control before shipping these units out I’d stay away from the brand. They do not offer returns. Life is busy and no one should have to spend this much time getting a brand new product functioning. ... show more

  • Works Well but Fuel Gauge Doesnt Work and No Battery Tender
Style: 7,000-Watt Dual Fuel
The media could not be loaded. We purchased the XP7000iH to help us through the more frequent power outages we are experiencing. We got the inverter version for the cleaner AC power to run our computers and electronics. We are generally pleased with the unit but with some disappointments. Read on for our observations while using the Duromax XP7000iH. The Good: -- STARTED RIGHT UP: On first start using the start button or the remote it started right up. -- PLENTY OF POWER: We used the significantly less expensive approach of manually providing power to priority devices in our home using extension cords instead of a transfer switch and the expensive modifications needed at the breaker panel. With only about 25% of its claimed capacity, 5500W running capacity, we could power our refrigerator, TV, cable modem, cable box, router, switches, and even a large sewing machine. -- CLEAN POWER: The power appears to be clean enough not to cause any issues, as our computers and other electronics operate successfully. That spec is called Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), and the generator provides a specification for this of 3%. -- RELATIVELY QUIET: It's not real quiet, but the enclosed motor helps. While under load and about 30 feet away from our neighbor's fence, we felt it was quiet enough not to be an annoyance to the neighbors. The video attached provides a sense of the loudness from about 3 feet away. -- EASY TO FUEL: The fuel cap is located directly on top of the unit making it easy to get to and pour in gas. The cap is on a chain, which is a nice touch. -- AUTO FUEL SELECT: There is no selection switch selection for propane or gas, so the unit will automatically run on propane if it senses pressure at its input port. Duromax does not state this anywhere in the specs or manual, but it is the case. The fuel switch has only two selections: on or off. -- BATTERY TENDER PORT: A battery tender input port is conveniently provided, so you don’t have to open the chassis to access the battery. -- PROVIDES ON HOURS ON CONTROL PANEL: The control panel provides the operating hours as well as the power being provided in Kilowatt hours. -- EASY TO MOVE: The 140-lb generator's wheeled chassis and extendable handle make it easy to move around. -- ATTRACTIVE CHASSIS: The enclosed chassis makes for a sturdy-looking and attractive unit. -- OIL DRAIN TUBE PROVIDED: The oil needs to be changed regularly, and a convenient drain tube is provided that you can access simply by removing a side panel. -- 5-YEAR WARRANTY: It's 5 years but only covers parts. THE COULD BE BETTER: -- FLAT CONTROL PANEL: The control panel is vertical on the end of the generator and not easily read unless kneeling and bent over. They could have used a tilt-up panel here. -- NO FUEL SOURCE READOUT: It would be very help to know which fuel source is being used. A readout on the control panel for Gas or Propane would be really handy. THE BAD: -- ARRIVED WITHOUT BATTERY TENDER: No battery tender was provided with the unit as it should have been. A request for replacement into Durmax has been submitted, but there has been no response to this review. I have heard several others also received the unit without a battery tender. -- MAIN BREAKER IS NOT A MAIN: As is industry standard, a Main Breaker will remove power for the entire unit as with the breaker panel on your home. The Duromax manual strongly suggests that the main breaker on the XP7000iH does just that. But in fact, it only removes power from the 30amp four-contact connector output. It DOES NOT power off the house connector for the 20 amp output. I thought the unit was miswired, but others have confirmed that this is how the unit is delivered. Durmax should address this. Knowing this allows me to know if I should remove the three-prong house connections vs. using the main breaker during start-up. -- NO FUEL TYPE SELECT DOCUMENTATION: Nowhere in the specs or the manual is it specified that the unit will automatically operate on propane if it senses pressure at the propane port. The fuel switch is either ON or OFF with no fuel type selection, so the only answer is that it must automatically select. Other similar units do this, so I must assume the Duromax does. Duromax should correct their documentation. -- FUEL GAUGE DOESN’T WORK: The fuel gauge always reads empty on arrival and first use, even when the 3-gallon tank is full. I have contacted Duromax support but have not received a response. CONCLUSION: It's not perfect, but it's functional even with the failed fuel gauge. ... show more
