For many years, a little woodworking vise on my bench has served me well. I've clamped items in there that have no business being in a woodworker's vise. Thankfully, there have been no reported injuries and just minor damage to the objects being clamped. I'm glad I tried this medium-duty clamp-on vise. The strength and simplicity of installation are both pluses. I fastened it securely to my workbench without having to drill any holes. The clamp features a considerable turn screw and is manufactured from thick material. The turn screw for the clamp was a little less smooth to use than I would have liked because of some minor thread damage. This isn't a deal breaker, but it could be an annoyance if you frequently dismount and remount it for use in the field. This seems more like a problem with the packaging than the actual production. The vise functions smoothly. Since it is not a full-size bench vise, it complied with my criteria for the amount of "racking" acceptable in the jaws when clamping an unperfectly centered object. One of my images illustrates this point. The vise operates smoothly, the grip provides ample leverage, and it is so well constructed that I doubt I could ever break it by hand. I agree with the other comments that the anvil section is somewhat tiny, but I don't think this is out of proportion with the rest of the vise. Neither the locking screw nor the vise's swivel mechanism require much force to secure. Not all vises are created equal; however, in this case, it works perfectly. Because I plan on using the vise on both sides of the corner, where it is mounted, the swivel feature is crucial for my needs. That is to say, when I adjust it, I don't assume it will remain in that position indefinitely. I could end up revising it several times during a single job. It's important to remember that the clamp that comes with the vise base is designed exclusively for use with a horizontal bench top and won't work with the 2x4 (with the two on top) that sits atop many saw horses. You can safely use a saw horse if constructed from a horizontal 2x4 (with the 4" side facing up).

I already had a similar vice bolted down on my workbench but there were occasions where I would have liked to have been able to move the vice outside for metal grinding, spot welding on small objects, etc. This vice now allows me to do that. Overall quality is basic but usable. The rubber cup on the bottom clamp immediately fell off but a little glue fixed that.

This is a hefty medium duty vise with a optional clamp base to make it really portable. I see the price has gone up on it, ( like everything else ), and I thought it was kind of steep at $60, but if this is something you need then it's still worth the current $80 just because it is built well enough to do the job it is made for.. medium duty work with the added benefit of being portable. Just don't drop it on your toes while you're moving it around, or the work you were planning on going with this might have to wait another week or two while you recover..

Vise Vise Baby! This vise is small, which makes it also easy to move about into varying positions with the included clamping base, which almost appears to be over-engineered it's so thick. But it does its job well. If you open the vise clamp all the way, it will come all the way out and apart, there is no clip on the end of the screw to prevent it from doing so. It has a smooth motion and does not bind, and the jaws align very well with little slop. The swivel works well in both directions for the 270 degree positioning, and the anvil will work for what it's made for, although I wouldn't describe it as large. Anvil surface is 1-9/16" x 1-15/16". (There is a shroud to protect the vice screw.) Jaw width is 4-7/16". Usable opening of jaws is ~ 3-1/2".
