  • Reliable off-road GPS
I originally bought this four years ago (just two weeks short of four years) to mount on the hood of my off-road car. The car just turned 8,000 miles this weekend, and XGPS finally died. Those were 8,000 rough miles through heat, dust, rain, and snow--mostly very bumpy miles. This poor little puck has been through a lot and has seen some things. I was bummed when it finally gave out, especially since we were exploring new territory that I would have loved to have recorded. I'm not bitter though. The first thing I did when I got home from the trip is ordered a replacement. It came out to about two-cents per hard mile, which seems worth it to me. That comes out to about $2.50 per long riding day, which is absolutely a bargain. I mounted mine to my CanAm's hood with the MobArmor case. I connect it to the iPad on my dash via Bluetooth and it's been pretty bullet-proof for four years. The only down-side is that the power draw is higher than the MiniUSB connection can support, so I have to remove it from the car every night and fully charge it before the next day's ride. Otherwise it will power down after a few hours of driving. If we're going on a night-ride on the same day, I definitely need to remove it and recharge it, otherwise it will quit and leave us roaming in the dark with very few visible landmarks. It comes with basic software. I definitely recommend adding better aftermarket software to the iPad. I use LeadNav off-road race software and the combo of this puck, the iPad, and LeadNav is a superior setup. Everyone else in my group has something basic in their cars, but mine is the most reliable and informative. The consequence is that I'm the designated leader for 99% of our trips because I have a nav that I can use while we're moving instead of having to stop and figure out what's what. Here's to another four years and another 8,000 miles. ... show more

  • Great little unit
Bought the 160 back in 2015 and ever since it has been working almost flawlessly. I fly A320s and place it between the side window and the window opening handle, facing up. Only when I have reception issues I would move it close to the center pillar between the front windshields and once the connection is back I would put it back in it's usual place. Just recently (2023) I started having some issues with sat reception (not a single sat was being found) but after contacting support and doing their hard reset procedure (disc batt for 10min after removing the 4 rubber plugs and screws on the bottom of the unit) it worked again. I was surprised to see how well built and clean this unit looks on the inside. I hope to keep it using for another 8 yrs ... show more

  • It is quick, cheap, and works every time!
I use it to time my laps on my motorcycle during trackdays. The hot start takes like 15-20 secs and cold start take like 25-30 secs. The battery is long lasting, will last 2 trackdays at least when switched off between sessions. The accuracy is 10Hz all of the time and I am getting excellent accurate data acquisition through my RaceChrono Pro app on my iPhone. I carry it in my suit pocket but going to find a permanent way of fixing it on the bike for more better results. I feel it is a very cost effective way of timing yourself on the racetrack or just collecting data for your roadtrip! ... show more

  • Works well with Harry's Lap timer and Trackaddict
I use it with my WiFi iPad mini and Harry's Lap Timer for autocross and so far it works very well. Compared to my phones internal GPS and my camera that has GPS, it has a much higher update rate and you can definitely see the difference as the speed is much smoother up and down as you accelerate and decelerate. Packaging was clean and for me I didn't need instructions and simply turned it on it popped up in the Bluetooth menu, synced it and was done in under a minute. From there I did let it charge overnight and although correctly it comes with a car charger (yes the cable is separate from the actual charger which is a good thing), I thought it had a house charger... no biggie as I have plenty of chargers to use. It does use a mini USB and not a Micro USB connector, so I do have to make sure I bring that cable with me as my others devices are all micro USB. It also does come with the silicone mounting pad and for me I was easily able to tape it to the trunk lid and call it a day. I originally was going to get one that plugs directly into my tablet, but then if I ever change tablets or connectors change.... then I would have a semi-obsolete product and then have to get into adapters. This works exactly as I need it to and so far so good! 11/2014 UPDATE: Well, I had a problem and it was battery related. At first it charged, ran well, then it just would not accept a charge again. I could run it off of the USB connector, but that defeats the idea of "easy" as it should be. -1 star for the hassle of it not working. On the lighter side, I had an RMA issued and it was returned no problem. As soon as all of that cleared, I bought another one and I have used it enough on the street to check it's batteries... so far it has discharged correctly and recharged perfectly. Hopefully it continues to do so. ... show more
