5a is my preferred stick, and I was predominantly into nylon tips for taking a beating and keeping the heads from getting any chipped tip dents. But I have to say the tips are in perfect shape after going on an extended drum freestyle test session complete with snare rim shots and 16th note hihat patterns. Plus the hands appreciated the grip on the handles when I was not warmed up before my hands started getting tacky. So These are a good set 'start off' drumstick before you move to Wood because I find extended play will give you a blister on the rubber parts that you hold, but that's just the facts about rubberized grips. And the rubber can be trimmed off if you desire. These feel durable enough for a few gigs...as long as the tips stay alive. Good Value...Feels Like Quality Weight is Medium to Heavy

Nice drumsticks with a good sound. The rubberized grip really helps me hold on to the stick while playing fast tempo stuff. Wooden tip sounds good and the sticks seem nice and durable.

These are decent sticks, but I had to remove the grip to make them usable. First, I don't typically recommend grip sticks for my students because they tend to create blisters faster if someone's doing a lot of playing. With that said, my favorite drumsticks for teaching have a rubber grip portion (I don't do a lot of extended playing, but quick demonstrations from the front of the room). I've gotten plenty of junk sticks that come free with practice pads, and tend to avoid the inexpensive sticks on here as they're usually too lightweight, but these were hickory, which tends to be a better choice for most purposes. These had good weight (for a good rebound), and were reasonably close in weight and balance to produce similar sound between the two sticks. The grip portion was pretty comfortable, but is far too short, at least 1.5 inches. I tend to teach having the fulcrum of the stick about 1/3 of the way up the stick to help get the right mix of balance and rebound. After playing with these for a bit to get a good feel for the balance, the fulcrum ended up right at the edge of the grip, which would lead to lots of issues. If the grip were longer, I would've given them 5 stars for those folks who want a grip stick. Since I tend to prefer students use non-grip sticks, I removed the grip with a quick box-cutter slit and splitting the grip down the middle. No residue, and now they are decent non-grip sticks.

These drumsticks are a nice upgrade for me. My old ones have gotten battered up and scratched up over the years and it was time for some new ones. These are super nice quality, light-colored, hard hickory wood and they look so snazzy! They have a smooth feel and a great balance. I especially love the textured rubber handle that gives me a great grip. I don’t have an ear that can really tell the difference between these and my old sticks, but they do sound great! They are strong and durable enough to probably last me many years, and I have the additional set for a backup! I’m no expert, but I really enjoying playing around with these!

I'm surprised for these have actually been giving my son blisters. He's been drumming daily for over a year and this is the first time he's ever developed them. They're not a bad entry level stick, not his favorite.
