  • excellent collection of percussion mallets and sticks.
This is an excellent collection of percussion mallets and sticks. I have a home studio with several different percussion instruments, so it's nice to have the proper tool for the job. The assortment includes a great variety of sticks and mallets for different playing styles and sounds. Everything comes neatly organized in a handy carrying bag, making it easy to keep the set together and preventing pieces from getting lost. The quality seems very good, and having so many options in one kit makes it a great value for musicians, drummers, percussionists, or anyone with a home studio setup. 5 out of 5 stars. A versatile and convenient collection that covers just about any percussion need. ... show more

  • Nice variety kit
This would be a great kit for a starting percussionist. They may not be the high-end mallets/sticks you would use as a gigging pro, but they're perfect for someone needing a set who has not yet determined what exactly they like/dislike in their gear. (Durability aside, "good" and "bad" are really a matter of personal preference -- a certain feel, weight, rebound, attack, etc. Stuff most people don't know until they've been doing something for a very long time.) I got these for versatility in the studio when I am doing backing percussion and less critical tracks. They work great and seem to be made out of decent material, especially for the cost. ... show more

  • I really wanted to like these, but only the drumsticks were really useful.
I mainly picked this up for the stick bag, hoping that at least 2 or 3 of the mallets might also be useful. (Having just spent $700 on a bunch of replacement mallets for my school, I'm always on the hunt for a bargain!) The bag itself is fairly useful, but has enough flaws that, by itself, I would only give it 3 stars. It is very lightly padded, but needs more padding to give a bit more protection to expensive mallets. There should also be, at the least, light padding on the interior pockets, again to help protect the mallets. The interior pockets should have stitching to create narrow pockets to keep the mallets better organized--the biggest danger to many mallets (especially yarn and felt) is the friction of them rubbing against each other. Finally, either the bag was too short or the mallets are too long, but the blue mallets included barely allow the bag to zip unless they are diagonal. Now to the mallets: 1. The black "xylophone" mallets feel like bouncy balls out of a vending machine mounted on shafts that are at least 50% thicker than any other xylophone/marimba mallets I've ever used. They produced a very muted tone on both xylophone and marimba, and had so little rebound that they can't really be used. I'll probably keep them around, but I'm not sure what they'll be useful for. (0 stars if I could). 2. The felt timpani mallets have the opposite problem--they are so hard that I'd be unlikely to put them in any middle-school student's hands for fear they would dent the timpani head (one step below wooden timpani mallets, which I also wouldn't let my middle schoolers touch!). I'll probably keep them on hand at the high school just in case we really need a super-staccato mallet, but it's doubtful I'd use them (1 star) 3. The Blue "marimba" mallets are somewhat useful--harder than any other yarn marimba mallets I have at my school, but they give a decent sound on the upper end of the marimba and through much of the xylophone range. If you're looking for "extra hard" marimba mallets, these could be 4 stars. If you're looking for a general purpose marimba mallet, avoid these. 4. The drumsticks are usually the weak link in a kit like this. Typically, the included sticks feel like drumstick-shaped balsa wood (usually warped as well); these are an exception. They have a good weight for their diameter, are actually straight, and give good rebound on both the practice pad and the concert snare. 5 stars if they were by themselves. So, the sticks are good, the blue mallets ok, and the other mallets are not good. The bag is okay. You're probably better to go buy the items you need separately--get quality!--and get a really good stick bag to protect the investment. ... show more

  • Versatile kit
This drum mallet kit includes a nice mix of felt timpani mallets, rubber mallets, marimba mallets, and standard 5A drumsticks, which makes it useful for different percussion instruments and playing styles. Having multiple types in one set is convenient for practice, rehearsals, or school music programs. The mallets feel balanced and comfortable in the hands, and the different heads produce distinct sounds suitable for steel drums, bass drum, glockenspiel, and xylophone use. The included storage bag is a helpful bonus for keeping everything organized and easy to transport. Overall this kit offers good variety and value for percussion players. It works well as a starter set or as a backup collection for anyone who needs multiple mallet types in one package. ... show more

  • Good basic percussion mallet set, useful variety
This is a nice basic percussion set that includes a good variety of mallets and sticks. Having several different types in one kit makes it convenient for working with different instruments without needing to buy everything separately. The mallets feel reasonably well made and balanced for general use. The felt, rubber, and marimba style heads each produce the expected sound and response, and the included 5A drumsticks are a useful addition. The storage bag is also handy for keeping everything together and easy to transport. It offers a good selection of mallets in one package and I have no complaints with the set. ... show more

  • Solid Percussion Starter Set -
. This is a good quality set that covers all the basics for percussion. It brings together the essential stick types in one grab and go package. The sticks and mallets are basic but good quality. The marimba mallets round out the set nicely. For students or casual players, they offer a workable option without needing to shop separately. The bag itself should take a lot of transport and gigging. The Oxford fabric feels durable and the stitching is secure. Hanging hooks and strap options make it practical. It is easy to move from rehearsal room to stage. Nothing in the set is boutique or specialty grade. It is dependable and usable across multiple instruments. From Xylophone to glockenspiel I'm covered. For what is included, this offers strong overall value. It gives a percussionist a ready foundation without overcomplicating the purchase. ... show more
