  • ULTRALIGHT COMPONENTS: Inspired by HIFIMANs iconic HE500 Series headphones, the open-back HE5XX pairs powerful, speaker-like audio with new ultra-light components to maximize both fidelity and comfort.
  • SAVING A LEGENDARY DRIVERS LEGACY: In the HE5XX, that sound is backwith improved clarity, and without the weight. Thanks to stronger double-sided magnets, 2-micron-thick Nano Diaphragm membranes, and other careful design adjustments, the HE5XX is 30-percent lighter than the Legacy HE500.

... show more

  • Hifiman HE5XX Review; some pluses and one real minus
I’ve only used these headphones for a few hours now. They’re the first pair of planar magnetic headphones that I’ve ever ordered. So far the sound is pretty good. I’ve read about problems people have with comfort but so far I find the more minimalist headband more comfortable than the much more padded one of the Hifiman Deva (which kind of feels like you’re being enveloped in a pillow). The only real quibble I have is the quite strong smell when they come out of the box (which others also have commented on). A few hours of use and there’s still a pretty bad odor. We’ll see if it dissipates and how much after a few days. If so I’ll come back and update my review accordingly. ... show more

  • Great planar, especially at this price
Amazing headphones especially for the price. After using them for a month now they sound great. Wide soundstage with good positioning treble can be a little harsh in the high end and bass lacks at the low volumes. But if you give these headphones some good power delivery (will need a powered amp) they sound great and won't find a better planar for the same price. ... show more

  • Wonderful soundstage and nice tonality
Sound is amazing and at a bargain price. It sounds similar to the Sundara but does other things better, including soundstage, separation and sub bass once EQed correctly. I’m keeping the HE5xx for fun listening to compliment my Sundara for more critical listening since it’s more intimate. I don’t agree with others and find the build quality good. I think some perceive the light weight and play at the adjuster as flimsy. But it’s all metal and the play is for articulation to conform better to different shapes heads, which is a complaint with the Sundara. And if you need more clamp force, you can easily just carefully bend it because it’s metal. ... show more

  • A very nice sound without being too harsh.
I was pleasantly surprised at the sound stage and overall fidelity of 5XX. The 4XX gets a lot of praise and it’s well deserved, but outside of build quality differences, I actually found the sound of these to be more enjoyable. For the price there aren’t a lot of headphones that beat these in terms of listenability. ... show more

  • Good sound but really lacking build quality and fit
Cheaply made compared to similarly priced headphones. I enjoyed the sound but the fit and build quality were deal breakers. Little to no clamping force and always felt like they were about to slide off. The slider adjustment seemed pretty flimsy and wouldn't stay in the notch adjustment. They also do have a strong chemical/paint smell right out of the box. Wanted to like them but the cons outweighed the pros. Pros - Good audio quality. The earpads are large. Lightweight and comfortable Cons - Flimsy build quality, no real clamp, questionable adjustment slider, (hifiman build quality and qc concerns) ... show more

  • Good if you get one that works
Ordered this item twice. First time I recieved the wrong headphones (the 4xx), the second time only one ear played sound. Overall the headphone seemed nice but not functional upon opening it. Reviewing it assuming you get a working one, its not bad.

  • Distortion
Build quality is lacking. Very cheap feeling. Pads do smell. However, it is comfortable. Clamp is almost non existant which means good for glasses but headphones shake and slide when you move your head. The sound was good at first, i liked it and would say it was similar to X2HR sound. Then I played Battlefield V and started getting annoying distortion with explosions. The distortion was in the corner of the headphones and was really bothersome. Id say if you are going planar, just go for Sundara over these. It is a little heavier and more bass light, but much better. ... show more
