Description

The Drop CTRL High-Profile is just like the original CTRL, but now it comes with a tall CNC-aluminum case that covers the switches. Machined at a 6-degree angle, the case is ergonomically crafted for a natural feel—and it’s quite a bit heavier than before. Thanks to the Kaihua switch sockets, the keyboard allows you to swap switches whenever you want with no soldering required. It’s also fully programmable via QMK, meaning you can assign macros or custom keybinds to every key. With dual USB-C connectors, the CTRL High-Profile is outfitted with the latest connections. What’s more, it has customizable RGB backlighting and underlighting, so you can set it to a single color or light it up with a rainbow wave. FULLY PROGRAMMABLE VIA QMK: Customizing your keyboard is a lot of fun. That’s why the CTRL High-Profile features a fully programmable layout, designed for modification. Using the Drop QMK firmware configurator, you have total control over every key. Plus, the configurator allows you to program macros and customized keymapping, so you can easily fine-tune your keyboard for gaming, work, or play. It’s also outfitted with two USB type-C connectors (one on each side), allowing you to use the spare connector to transfer data and charge devices at USB 2.0 speeds. The CTRL High-Profile is made from a large block of anodized aluminum (in two finishes), which is known for its toughness and ability to hold a quality surface finish. About twice as heavy as the original CTRL, the keyboard won’t budge when you're locked into an intense FPS match or hammering out an essay. Thanks to the built-in switch plate and hot-swappable PCB, the keyboard gives you the freedom to change out switches whenever you like. In fact, the gaps on the sides of the case are specifically designed for the included switch-removal tool. Best of all? You don’t need to solder each switch. Just pop them in and they’re ready to go. Bought because I wanted an aluminum-case mechanical keyboard that wouldn't ship from China and take a few months to get here. I bought used, at a discount, which really helps my value-for-money rating, since this is QUITE expensive at full price. Overall a little pricey (its what you expect from Drop) but a great board and case nonetheless. It even comes with some foam inside of the case, which isn't the best foam, but it works. I would buy this again, especially if it is going for a lower price (PLEASE dont spend $270 on this board), as it is a highly available Aluminum case and hot-swap PCB combo, if you want another option for a TKL with aluminum case check out the Glorious GMMK Pro (I would have chosen that if I liked the format of their keyboard better. it is only slightly less for about the same keyboard) For rebinds I just use Auto Hot Key, since I don't need anything crazy, and AHK is a very powerful language. I do believe that Drop supports flashing the firmware for this keyboard, however. It should be noted however, this board doesn't come with stabilizers (the one I got) and they are clip-on stabilizers. So buy that ahead of time if you want to use any of your bigger keys without significant wobble. ... show more

This is one of the best barebones keyboard kits out there. It is a full aluminum build with RGB. Very heavy and durable. Sounds great too. It was fun to build in and add my switches and keycaps. (Glorious Panda Switches). I did a few mods to it as well The (added foam insulation and stabilizer mod) The RGB customization tool is kinda technical to figure out, but besides that this keyboard kit is one the best you can buy. ... show more

    • Good keyboard but needs work to be great
THE GOOD: + Solid Aluminum case with pleasantly heavy weight + Vibrant RGB. Even without shine through keycaps, the RGB is bright and beautiful (provided you have switches with clear tops for RGB) + Easy enough Keyboard configurator that seems to be updating to make configuration easier THE BAD: + typing on the stock case is pingy (has a metallic ringing sound when typing) + Stock stabilizers rattle very badly and ruin the sound of your switches + High price point OVERALL IMPRESSIONS: This is my first keyboard so please take this info with a grain of salt. If you use this keyboard in it's stock form, you probably wont like it. The aluminum frame and layout of the board create a metallic acoustic mess that will leave you with pingy noises when typing and a slight ring when using your space bar as the rattle from the stock stabilizers drives you nuts. HOWEVER, if you buy foam inserts for the board (i bought mine off of StupidFish for $29 plus shipping) it MASSIVELY improves the sound quality. I also opted for new stabilizers (Durock plate mounted stabilizers were bought through amazon for less than $3) and lubed them and these made a huge difference in my experience with this board. If you're willing to spend the extra, roughly, $35 (depending on what shipping speed you use with StupidFish) then this board is worth it. I have had it for over a month now and overall, I’m frustrated. I cannot get the stabilizers to not sound awful or work correctly. I feel like I’ve tried everything - even tried several other stabilizers and the space bar will not unstick. It’s not usable. Checking the frame, it looks like the metal is “warped” down which may be causing the issue? But the stabilizers on every other key that uses them truly are atrocious. Even trying others stabilizers on them with and without lubing. I don’t know what to do at this point and I’m really disappointed as this is the most expensive board I’ve purchased. The heft is nice, it looks nice, RGB is ok but I have a few $60 boards with more options and customizability. The sound quality through the entire thing is uneven and really sounds terrible no matter what switch I try. I’ve tried adding more foam, even trying the foam drop has just for this and no luck. Overall I’m incredibly disappointed and feel like I wasted money. And again, I can’t use the space bar…. I don’t know what to do at this point. ... show more

This is my second Drop CTRL deep dish keyboard to purchase. I see no quality difference between the black and silver models, both are a very high-end product. I pair each these bare bones boards with a set of drop+invyr holy panda switches and Matt30 key caps. This is a very high quality board with fully programmable firmware to suit any possible layout and illumination setup one would want. Be sure to use Drop’s web tools for this purpose. Living in the barrio here in Houston, I find extra security in wielding these boards which are well suited for home defense applications should the need arise. ... show more

    • Heaviest board you’ll ever own, but light on programming features.
Seriously, this thing is like 10 pounds. The build quality of the board itself is great, but the stabilizers absolutely need replacing due to their rattle sound every time you press the keys with them. The individual LEDs can be easily seen on the light bar as well. A better diffused plastic bit would have been appreciated. The programming of the board itself is also underwhelming. It’s impossible to set the lighting pattern that I want as the default whenever I boot up the PC, even in QMK due to its limited options available, even though the lighting shortcuts are able to cycle to the pattern I want. For nearly $300, a proper program for this keyboard would definitely be appreciated. ... show more

First of all this isn't my first product regarding keyboards/custom builds. I build keyboards and such often. It's a hefty price but for what you're getting it's honestly worth it. keyboards of similar quality and thought put into it can cost much more than this. I don't quite know the exact weight but it feels like it at least weighs 2-3 pounds. The casing is super good quality and I haven't had any other issues. ... show more

It's made of hefty CNC aluminum and will not budge an inch from where I placed it on my desk due to both the weight and the grippy rubber feet. The LEDs are also extremely bright, but you can toggle the brightness with a key combo, or turn it off completely. The only complaint I have would be that the stabilizers rattle a bit, but they can be easily replaced with another plate mount set. All in all, it's a solid base for any keyboard build. ... show more
