Description

Chained. Forgotten. Wilful. Proven useless in the breeding rooms, Gwynn is relegated to the tunnels for punishment. Left to toil—or maybe to die, if no master returns for her. If only she could let herself. A desperate escape, the barest taste of freedom. Only to find herself ensnared by another. Not as a thrall. Not as a drone. But as something else entirely. -x- He was helping her. Again. He wanted the best for her, even if her nerves made it difficult to eat as quickly as she should. “All right,” she murmured, unable to bring herself to look at him, her fingers tangling in the fur in her lap since he’d deprived her of her previous distraction. “So you were waiting for one of us. A slave.” “No,” Gesper corrected, his voice firmer than it had been. “I already told you that is not your position here.” Her mouth formed a firm line and she made her eyes meet his. “If you did not come for a slave, then what did you come for?” He held her gaze, but there was something in him that betrayed his unwillingness to speak it. But he was going to. For her. Because she insisted. It was a foreign power she seemed to possess. Maybe that was simply the magic of today, and tomorrow it would flee from her again. But not yet. And so he made himself answer. Grim-faced and reluctant. “A wife,” he answered. “I came for a wife. And I found you.” Read more

  • Excellent, as usual
If you love character driven, well written stories (romance or not) this is your author. Just a great storyteller. We are losing that in the race for more explicit content, for an author to write faster so more books will be out there. Anywhoo, this one is a continuation of her Deridia series and a good one to boot. Our heroine may have been a slave, but we are reminded that all humans are different. That while one may take a situation and not question, another may question, grumble and agitate until something just erupts. Our hero was there just at the right time to be a support to her. Together they make a great couple, along the way we have the usual ups and downs ~ but we don't have the stupid Big Misunderstanding, which I think is just an author who can't write, lol. Great book. Usually I find her works on KU, but this one I bought. I've bought a few from this series, not all, but three on them, this is the 4th. I enjoy re reading them. ... show more

  • Great
I really enjoyed reading this book and the second, Warder. Gwynn is a strong female lead and Gesper is a wonderful man that loves and cares for her. I'm not sure if I enjoyed this story more than Mercy, it's a close call. I did enjoy it more than all of the other books as they lack the strong female lead. ... show more

  • Pure Romance - Love this series
5 Stars. This book is pure romance. The romance between the heroine and hero is the sole focus of the book and it’s a marvelous, heartbreaking, inspiring and joyous adventure. This story starts full of the adventure of the heroine’s escape from slavery at the hands of cruel insect-like aliens. Of the heroine’s dream to be outside, free and to see the stars. Are stars even real or just a story told to children? Then there’s the process of the heroine learning to trust the hero and the love that blooms between them on their journey through the snow. They reach his home and build a life together. The end is especially satisfying. It’s a happy tearjerker. A favorite. This story is pure romance. ... show more

  • Great sci fi romance
The Deridia series has consistently wonderful, inventive plots with believable coup!es. The world and its varied peoples is fascinating. Gwynn is a believable female character suffering with PTSD from her life as a Narada thrall. Gesper may be my favorite male character in this series. I highly recommend Deridia. ... show more

  • I've a fondness authors who use the word harangued.
I'm just fond of the characters this author writes about. I've noticed that the residents of this planet were functional of normal procreation till about 3-5 generations ago. Would that be around the time the people of the starship experience whatever claimity destroyed the ship they were on? I hope to find out more of this mystery in this series. Just to warn readers these books all have characters who have experienced trauma of some kind and almost all have post traumatic stress issues. Especially, these books about the colonists that crashed near the slavers. ... show more

  • Escape
This world that the writer keeps going back is a very hard image. The people crashed on this planet years ago and some people got lucky to meet some nice aliens while others got to meet a insect type race that only wanted to make slaves out of them. This heroine was in that compound. Nothing good to say about it but hopelessness. I have read all the other books and this writer puts a lot of thought in the relationships of her main characters but do feel she drags out some when I'm ready to move on. That said if you are a lover of sci-fi then this alien set up of books is very worth reading. Some are better than others but will not disappoint. ... show more

  • so much better than the first book.
I love both of these kiddos. Doing their best and falling in love. Skip the first book (Mercy) of this series it will make you ill.
