  • Stable, toilet riser, add your own seat
Style: Standard Seat
Mom's therapist recommended this type of toilet riser as the toilet seat of choice attaches on top of this raised piece. The arm rails on both sides fit even in her small bathroom and gave her both lift and stability as she navigated after hip surgery.

  • Drive toilet seat booster.
Style: Elongated Seat
I bought this for my mom a few years ago before she died. She got a lot of use out of this and the gripper handles on both sides came in handy when she would get off and on the toilet. Not being a mechanic, the seat was a bit tricky to mount onto the toilet. It took me a few hours to install it. Thank goodness I have a power drill. It came in handy when I had to remove the booster seat for cleaning. The handles clip off and on so you can clean the booster seat. That was tricky too. You had to make sure you put them back in the right place. Luckily our toilet seat fit on top of the booster seat and the heavy metal bolts were the right length for putting the toilet seat back together on the booster seat. The wing nuts were tricky too as they screwed on the bolts underneath the back of the toilet. I had to hold the wing nut with one hand while I screwed on the toilet seat with the other. Like I said, I’m not a mechanic. My mom died a few years ago, March of 2022. She had congestive heart failure but lived to be 98! Of course she was taking a lot of medicine for her heart. I still use the booster seat. I just left it on the toilet. I’m 68 and will be 69 this year. I have osteoporosis and this booster seat comes in handy even for me. Glad I bought this for my mom and she got to use it before she died. I’d like to get into a smaller place and hopefully a place that lets me keep my three cats! But if I move, I’ll definitely take the booster seat with me. 👍🏻 Good purchase! ... show more

  • Works well, but it will slide sideways.
Style: Standard Seat
I bought 2 for my upcoming hip surgery's. I installed both on round Delta toilets that are about 17 in tall. I also installed my Smart Bidet BB-1000R on one and a Brondel nonelectric seat on the other. I had to buy 6" carriage bolts so the bolt heads would fit the brackets. The riser worked well, is sturdy and feels safe as long as you're putting weight straight down on the handles. The riser will move side to side pretty easily with or without the bidet seat. It needs some rubber pads on the bottom to help keep it in place like the bidet mounting brackets have. It would be 5 Stars if they fixed this. ... show more

  • Gets the job done, but barely
Style: Elongated Seat
After hip replacement surgery last month I needed a toilet seat larger than the free-standing small units that Social Services supplies. This riser appeared to be what I needed because I could use my elongated toilet seat. I read the reviews and prepared for the installation by having some plumber's putty (in ribbon form) that I placed under the front between the two brackets. That stopped the sliding some people mentioned and sealed the front (there's a small lip molded into the front of the riser that is intended to contact the front of the toilet bowl and prevent movement, but It did not contact my bowl). The unit came with long 5/16 bolts, small flat washers and wing nuts. I don't like metal fasteners directly against the ceramic bowl, which would occur if I used the parts as supplied. I had some extra 3/8" nylon nuts from an old toilet seat, which have the tapered top to go into the toilet bowl slot. I placed these over the bolts, then tightened the wing nuts against them. On the top, I used a 5/16" fender washers under the head of each. This let me get the assembly quite tight without concern over damaging any of the plastic parts. The riser has elongated slots, and I pulled it as far forward as I could before tightening the bolts. Everything was very secure. Having to supply the plumbers putty and the makeshift fasteners cost this unit one star. I'm a big guy, which resulted in my finding that the handrails needed to be a couple of inches wider so I could fit and do my business. I also discovered that sliding to the front of the seat to do cleanup duty resulted in the spacers under the toilet seat putting some serious dents into the top of the hollow plastic riser. So far these are just dents and the riser has not cracked or crushed, but it certainly doesn't look to be a good thing. If you have a plastic toilet seat with thin molded spacers under it, you might not see the dents. The handles being too close and the denting of the unit cost it a rating star. On the plus side, a requirement of my hip replacement is that I push straight up so I maintain a 90 degree angle when getting on or off the toilet. The handles allow that and appear to be strong enough to lift my weight and last for the 12 to 16 weeks I will need this. A reviewer mentioned the difficulty of installing the handles, but when you consider the task they have to do and the fact that they just slide without tools into short metal tubes underneath the riser unit, it's necessary that they be very tight in their holes. I do not yet notice the urine smell mentioned by others. Once I no longer need the arms, but may still need the riser, I plan to remove it, clean it well, and reinstall it with a ribbon of plumbers putty all around so errant urine does not find it's way under the spacer. If Drive Medical added the additional fastener parts and a little plumbers putty, this should be a 5-star unit for anyone under 230#. ... show more
