I got two taps and a die from Drill America on this order. The taps are good/excellent but the hex die was a weird comically tiny nonstandard size (an M8x1.0 with a bizarre tiny 11/16" hex width almost like you'd expect with the micro and jeweler's tiny round dies or something). The M8 tap I received had to be returned but overall it was decently ground and good quality with some niggles in form/design compared to typical US made or US branded taps. This little 4-48 tap is great, though, darn close to US hss taps I normally use. The teeth are expertly ground and clean, angles seem right, both ends are finished cleanly. I've only put one hole 1/4" deep into some mild steel but the action felt great and the threads were beautiful. I'll be angry-sad when this tap eventually snaps, as all the tiny ones eventually do, but initial impressions are excellent. ... show more

Can't beat this tap for the price. It held up to being abused with a power impact for 50 holes through 1 inch steel plate. I thought for sure I would toast this tap before I was done but the time savings vs cost was worth it to me. To my surprise, it held up great and is still in great shape too. As you can see in the photos the tap exploded on the fourth hole. I should have ordered the taper tap like the picture shows, but I mistakenly ordered a plug tap and it failed. It’s a 4 flute design, and it’s the first tap I ever broke out of hundreds of tapped holes over the years.

Works as intended. Note that the shaft of the tap is not a smaller diameter than the threading part, so your maximum depth is the depth of thread taps (about standard like other taps of this size) and not the entire length of the tap shaft. I used this on 4130 steel, including near some welds (poor foresight) and the tap didn't break like some cheap ones will. ... show more

Bought this to clean up threads on a trailer hitch mount. Chucked it up in a drill since I wasn't expecting much issues, but the drill chuck destroyed the shank as if it were annealed - never seen that happen so easy/quick. Turned to a hand held tap wrench. The first nut I went through completely wore out all the cutting teeth on all 4 flutes. The condition of the nut is the exact same as before. Sometimes thread repairing can be hard on taps depending on nut material/condition - but this job was not particularly demanding, a single decent tap should have been able to do all the nuts I have to do. ... show more
