  • Finally, a REALLY QUIET window AC!
We liked this so much we bought a second unit for another room. It is *really* quiet and cools really well. A great deal of thought went into the remote control and programming: hats off to whoever was responsible for the coding. We love the night mode in particular, no beeps or bright display LED. The louvre is adjustable via remote, so you can stop it exactly when the flow of air goes where you want it to. It's also adjustable horizontally. It's just so thoughtfully designed. There's even an option to show temperature in degrees F or C (but not K -- but who needs that, outside physicists?). Some reviewers have mentioned vibration and it's true that as the compressor spins up it has a low frequency sound that might resonate. In the case of our circa 1926 home that doesn't happen and it's rather pleasant. Once it gets going, it's quiet as a mouse. There's not too much to criticize really. Once water collects in the back, there can be a swishing sound, but it's very quiet, so no biggie. Be careful with the surface of the remote's LED display, it is made with soft plastic and can be scratched easily with a fingernail (tape over it if you're likely to be bothered by this). Installation: it is a heavy unit for sure: one beefy person can install it but two is better (warning: it may not be installable in precisely the way the manual envisages: in our case, the brackets cannot reach the nylon window frames, but no matter; we sat them on wooden blocks to raise them above fragile window parts). We didn't find it that easy to get the side panels to clip in at first, then we got the hang of it. We are so happy to have finally found a window AC that is actually quiet enough that it doesn't wake us! ... show more

  • Awesome Dreo Air Conditioner
The media could not be loaded. I love this unit. I had to have the air conditioner placed on a mounting support bracket by a professional installer because my window is a slider in June. He had to place a small piece of plexiglass over the opening over the unit. Since that time this unit has performed effectively even at 105 degrees. Monthly maintenance is a simple open the front door and clean off the front filter. Should one live in a humid climate, there is a rubber plug on the rear exterior lower corner in which to allow the draining of accumulated water. Since Oregon is rather dry to medium on the humidity scale, we don’t have a challenge with this. I love the off button feature that closes the vent door so there is less dust and dirt accumulation on the front of the unit. 😊 ... show more

  • Compressor dead after 1 summer
I thought maybe it stopped working bc summer had ended and it was too cold outside for it to work. But summer is back and it is still not working. :( blows cold air for about 5 mins and then the compressor kicks off and it gets warm and humid. I have to smack it to kick the compressor back on for a few more mins. Edit* unit was replaced and the new unit does the same thing. If you value the cold please don't buy this unit. If it's under 68 outside it will produce warm wet air. We have a $20 window AC from savers in the other room and it gets the room 10 degrees colder than this unit, and also works in the fall & spring. I only have 1 window in my room so I have to take this thing out at night and put it back in during the day. ... show more

  • Good value cools well
Nice size for smaller windows or wall openings. Cools well for its size. Easy install. Not as noisy as other units I have used. Good value.

  • Emergency air conditioning
I acquired this portable air conditioner after my central A/C went out during a heat wave. That unit had been repaired and so it sat unused until the central went on the fritz again. I installed it in my bedroom because that is the one room that is needed to be cool and is small enough to effectively cool. It took care of me in a time of need. You should try II. ... show more

  • Very quiet
The media could not be loaded. Update: it’s so good we’ve just bought another one. Read on for details. We were installing this in a Anderson sash window and it wasn’t without it’s struggles. My husband is handy with a tool and the biggest issue we found was getting the 3 degree tilt. If it says 3 degrees my husband will settle for no more and no less. He ended up rigging a bit of marine plywood under the sash for the top of the unit to be fixed to which gave the perfect angle. Having it fixed just to the window had it dead straight with no tilt. Fortunately it’s light. A lot lighter than our old unit so me standing outside holding it balanced wasn’t a problem. Once it was in place and running, just in time for the east coast’s historic May heatwave all installation sins were forgiven. This unit is whisper quiet and blows out a lot of cool as you can tell from the video. It looks a lot sleeker than old units. It defaults to Econ mode when you turn it on and is easily adjustable by remote or panel on the front. It was so quiet we weren’t convinced it was going to do a good job but it’s a solid 5* for cooling our open plane living / dining / kitchen. In a typical size master room it would do a great job even on low. It’s so quiet there’s been times when I’ve had to check it’s actually on. You really can’t hear it. Overall I love it for operation and after a bit of swearing the husband says “yeah it’s not bad” which is high praise indeed. Instructions are clearly written and easy to follow. Like all window units you need two people to install and make sure one of them knows what they’re doing. My husband said it’s a huge help if the assistant just stands where they’re supposed to and doesn’t offer “advice”. ... show more
