We have an old tub (at least 30 years old, average normal bathtub) I thought maybe the suction cups would be okay as it's not a textured surface, but nope. They don't stick. It does pretty much stay put, though. I thought it might float around, but it stays over the drain most of the time, so it does catch hair. The product is a little too high if you have a flat drain like I have. The water has to pool above a certain level before it could get into the opening. It also did not catch my hair very well and the underside got slimy fast. Maybe pass on this unless you have a sunken in drain area.
