Bought these for our silkie hens that are about a year old. They were losing their feathers and were the favorites to be harassed by roosters. The fit is perfect since they’re on the smaller side. The saddles scared the other chickens, which probably helped keep them safe from harassment. We put them on our girls the day these arrived. It was pretty easy to get them on and there was an adjustment period to get the fit right so they didn’t flip up. Our girls seem to like them and they’ve been phenomenal at helping them grow back their feathers. We do give them a break to clean the saddles and wash their feathers because sometimes, they get crud underneath them as they do their chicken thing around the yard and in the coop. It was very tight around her wings even on the longest setting. She was uncomfortable She’s a little silkie but it’s just too small for her. The material is strong. Seems like it would be useful and valuable but the straps are too tight.

We live in Florida so I was worried about a hen saddle being too hot for my hens. These work great! They stay in place, the hens don't seem to mind wearing them, and they withstand the rooster's feet, protecting my hens' feathers. Best of all, they're a breathable mesh, so my girls aren't baking underneath them. I wish they came in brighter colors though. ... show more
