This tape feels very similar to the strips used on 3M command products. Has that spongy, stretchy feel. Backing is decent weight paper coated on both sides with a non-stick. So tears easily when you want it to, but sturdy enough not to when you are peeling it off. It is a little tricky to get the paper backing to start peeling. Used this for a collage/vision board project. The height from the foam adds a fun dimension to the project. Tape sticks well to a variety of surfaces, it seems to stick better if you give it some time to set, so for vertical surfaces, don't put weight on it, or use something to support the weight while it sets. We found the projects that were propped up had a few heavier elements fall off, but the ones laid flat overnight held well when later put vertical. Which does make me wonder how removable this tape is over time. I've had it for a month, and while it was harder to remove from satin paint after that time period, it did still come off cleanly - barely. I would be concerned that it might not remove cleanly from more porous surfaces such as flat paint if left for extended periods. This is pretty standard for even removable adhesives though - so for what it is it works well for my projects.

Double-sided tape has uses in woodworking when one board is used as a cutting guide and the board to be cut is attached with the tape and then removed later. Other reviewers are addressing its use for carpets and wall hanging, so I thought I would give a different perspective. It's difficult to get the covering off this type of tape, not just this particular brand. If you tear it at an angle, that will usually give a bare-tape spot you can use to start peeling off the covering. Once in a while, though, a second tear is needed to get that spot. When I attached the 2 pieces of wood, it didn't hold well at first. So I clamped them and waited 30 minutes. This did the trick. I then pushed the "guide" piece of wood against a router bit (flush-cut bit) and let it cut the second piece of wood to match the "guide". This should make the second piece of wood a good copy of the guide. There is a fair amount of pushing during the process and the tape held strong while I did the work. Unfortunately, I didn't get a good copy. The copy had a lot of "wavy" places in the edge, which suggests that the thick foam tape was soft enough to allow some movement. I repeated the work with a simple straight-line cut to copy an edge, but the wavy edge was still there. I have to conclude that the tape is not suitable for woodworking if motion cannot be tolerated. It should be fine if you just want to hold things together. On the plus side, I was unable to pull the 2 matching pieces of wood apart. I had to insert a screwdriver blade and apply a good deal of force to separate them. So the tape's grip is pretty good...

Wasn't sure what to expect with this double sided tape. I didn't use it for securing a rug, but I think it would definitely work for this purpose as long as the surfaces are as clean as possible. I'm also not sure how well it would do for vertical adhesion of heavier objects. However, I actually used this to make a door/door frame quieter and to stick two boxes together. It's a durable tape, the perfect thickness that I expected, and it's flexible. One side of the tape is always sticky like a regular role, and then the other side has a peelable covering that protects the other sticky side. This way you can choose if you actually want to use it double sided or if you only want to use one side. It also allows for more control on the application and easier use/preservation. Although, I didn't test it on a rug, I really do think it would meet that need and other similar uses.
