Got a check engine light on my '18 TRD Off Road out of nowhere, used my buddy's OBD-II scanner to determine it was the thermostat. I noticed at that point it wasn't getting all the way up to temp (it should stand straight up in the middle at operating temp), so that all but confirmed the thermostat wasn't doing its job anymore. The biggest thing you need to know going into this is whether or not your truck has the tow package. If your truck DOES NOT have the tow package, you need to get a different thermostat housing assembly since this one has an extra line that comes off it for the tow package's oil cooler. Dorman makes both models. It was a pretty simple job, took me and my buddy a couple hours from start to finish and we're definitely not pros. It basically went like this: Took off the skid plates, 8X 12mm bolts. Drained the radiator from the bottom drain petcock. Removed the hoses and the old thermostat housing, 3ea 10mm bolts/nut. Put the new unit on, it includes a new gasket preinstalled. Torque spec is 7 ft*lbs. Reconnected the hoses. Refilled the radiator, bled it. Reinstalled the skid plates. Torque spec is 22 ft*lbs but I'm sure "gutentight" would be fine for these guys. Cleared the check engine light. That's it, it was a really easy job. Now the truck is getting up to temp like it's supposed to, no leaks or any fuss so far after a few weeks. If the unit fails on me prematurely I will come back and make a note in this review. Had a code for thermostat out of perimeter. I have a 2017 Tacoma TRD sport 4x4 with towing package. this one is for towing package. towing package has 2 extra nipples on the thermostat housing.
