I trust Dorman, have sold their parts for 17 years when I was in the industry. Often times, they will use OEM parts, just reboxed to Dorman, so I was disappointed when I opened this box and it revealed a MotoRad thermostat. Now, MotoRad does supply some OE companies with parts and it did look identical to the OEM BMW part which lasted 80k miles. Fitment in my 435ix GC was tight, and the best recommended method is from the top. I never raised the car. Remove the air intake, remove crossover smaller diameter coolant hoses to avoid breaking them. Remove the fan assembly. I have a larger turbo inlet pipe which made it more difficult. With OE you should have more room as the thermostat is to the left and under the turbo inlet pipe on the left (as you look at the engine). Expect to lose a lot of coolant so buy up 2 gallons 50/50 here on Amazon. Total time was 1.5hrs but I am not a novice. The hardest part was the tight fit back on the radiator. Apply a small amount of lubricant on the seal. There are grooves on these coolant pipes. Once back together, filled up, you must bleed the cooling system by turning on the ignition (not engine), cabin temperature to highest, fan on lowest setting, and hold down gas pedal for 10-20 seconds. You will hear the water pump kick in, then keep topping off the coolant. Might take 10 minutes. 200 miles and so far this thermostat is holding up fine. ... show more
