Description

The original coolant thermostat housing assembly on certain Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram and Volkswagen vehicles is made from plastic that becomes brittle over time, eventually leading to cracks. In addition, overtightening the bleeder valve can cause fluid leaks that can damage the cooling system. This Dorman OE FIX thermostat housing assembly is manufactured from aluminum to help provide increased cooling system protection, and features patented design upgrades that optimize coolant flow and heat transfer. This part is compatible with the following vehicles. Before purchasing, enter your vehicle trim in the garage tool to confirm fitment. • Better than OEM
The OEM part is plastic and will fail over time. This is a true direct permanent replacement.

  • Cooler Range than Stock 2012 Chrysler Town & Country
I think that’s a good thing!! Our Chrysler T&C was throwing an occasional check engine light for low coolant temperature, P0128. Checking the dash selection for coolant temp on trips showed it was running 168-175. Checking the internet found that stock thermostats which sit in a plastic housing operate from 203-215 (95C) Quite a few owners were writing that they wished it was cooler running. There is a performance thermostat available for the Pentastar 3.6l that is set to open at 180. Our problem was getting to temperature, our towing with this vehicle is rare and didn’t want to see a CEL any more I did not want to go that low. This aluminum housing has a thermostat that is stamped 90. Operating temps from the dash computer show the engine is running 185-194 and I saw 197 once while parked & running in the driveway after a trip when visually checking fluid level. Installation in my driveway was about 70-90 minutes. I put a big plastic under bed sweater storage bin under the front of the van to catch fluid, disconnected hoses and unbolted the plastic housing one. Put this in place and secured it with the machine screws like the previous was. The thermostat in the original was stuck open upon inspection. The bleeder screw in the new aluminum housing is correctly oriented upwards when mounted on this engine. I added new 50/50 mix G05 fluid to the radiator and plastic tank while squeezing the hoses. Rather than bleed it I put the container of antifreeze in the van and drove it for short trips, like up to 10 miles with the dash computer set to show coolant temp. Over then week I added fluid three times in the tank, not much each, and it stabilized. Van runs great. Drove 3000 miles from MI to CO and the mountain ski areas with no issues and I downshift to engine brake on grades. No codes or check engine light and temp is consistently running 190 plus/minus 5. ... show more

  • EDIT: Only lasted 11 months
Same code after 11 months. Looks well built, but looks are deceiving. Initial Review: (Fixed (yet another) Dodge Grand Caravan engine light) Perfect fit for 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan. The van is a pain with all the frequent codes, but is easy to fix. So. it is what it is. Glad to have the part in metal, just make sure you have a inch/lb torque wrench. ... show more

  • 5th Gen Grand Caravan
Probably should have went with the dealer thermostat since they aren't that expensive however so far I have enjoyed the "oe fix" line of Dorman products (high recommend the lug nuts 611-074, hint just buy the 40 pack). So this thermostat changes from a plastic housing to all metal, will this be better in the long run? Not sure. Initial fit was perfect, no worries about busting the bypass/bleeder screw as it's all metal, no leaks after a week. ... show more

  • GREAT IF YOU DESIRE TO BLOW UP YOUR ENGINE!!!...
1) NOT 187-degrees as cited on their own website. 203-degrees; 2) STICKS CLOSED!!! The temperature gauge on my ProMaster NEVER bugged until I installed this piece of junk. Would overheat, peg gauge, idiot light comes on,panic sets in,5-10 seconds later would slam back to normal reading, repeat, repeat, repeat... Might be okay for flatlanders, but under heavy load, hills, towing, etc. not suitable. I actually changed back to stock thermostat while camping in the middle of nowhere, which is a terrifying premise should one drop a bolt or something. Can't endorse this Dorman product at all. ... show more

  • Aluminum upgrade good quality Aluminum upgrade good quality
Bring my car back up to temperature. I was having a problem with my plastic replacement being stuck open or a lower temperature operation. This one works great other parts replaced as well such as a thermostat housing. I used a Dorman aluminum upgrade. On a side note, AC deco water pump has a metal impeller instead of the plastic OEM. If you do all this work, the engine mount needs to come off and you should probably do the tensioner idler and serp belt. ... show more
