I was looking for a solution after reading about a toddler wondering outside his home in the middle of the night and getting hit by a car😭 My 2.5 YO learned how to unlock and open the door, which made me very nervous. Since we are renting I didn't want anything that involves drilling. We installed it yesterday (super easy) and I now feel calmer. I was worried my son would learn how to open it too very quickly, but seeing it in place I don't think so anymore. The product prevented my toddler from opening the door from the inside and I was still able to open the door from the outisde which is very convenient for me and it didn’t lock me out. I was looking at so many alternative style locking mechanisms to keep our two year old safe. We have a pond and beach maybe 30 yards from the house. All she has to do if flip the deadbolt and turn the flip handle and she’s out the door. Too many times has she escaped from the house and would make it to the beach by the time we were exiting the door after her. I ordered this lock after a friend sent me the link, showing me how effective it was- along with the cheaper price. We had to shave down one of the sides to accommodate proper space for the metal on the door, but so far, it works amazingly! The bottom and top lever both move, depending on which way your handle flips. After flipping your door handle up or down, you simply move the lever back to the original position, making it impossible to move the door handle down or up. Thank you for the added security that we needed! No more escapes have been made and we can rest easy that our toddler isn’t on the beach or wading in the water. ... show more
