  • I’ve played trumpet for 23 years
Color: Blue
My dad thought it was a waste of money, my band director said no because it wasn’t our school’s colors. Is this THE best trumpet? If you’re performing? No. If you want a trumpet to maintain your skill or pick up a new instrument? It’s amazing. With the right embouchure, you get a smooth, buttery sound rather than the Big Brass sound, which is great for indoor practice. It easily fits in my hand, very light weight, and very much worth its price. ... show more

  • Mostly a toy, not a substitute for a “real” pocket trumpet…
I mean, you can’t play a low C on the thing, but it’s also cheap…idk, kind of works as a travel practice aid, but also kind of doesn’t…more of a toy really…

  • Plastic trumpet is plastic.
Sound quality is as expected from a plastic trumpet. It's a bit awkward to hold if you have regular fingers because of the big plastic part on the side. Valves are really loud, and spit valve doesn't empty very well. Other than that, works pretty well.

  • Plastic does not a trumpet make
Color: Black
I bought the PAMPET DOLPHIN pocket trumpet for travel. A light, small, plastic trumpet seemed more likely to survive travel and serve me for hotel-room practice sessions than my brass pocket trumpet. After a few days playing the PAMPET, I returned it. In brief, the sound quality, volume, and note centering weren’t adequate. There was no savings in size. I’ll continue to travel with my brass pocket trumpet, despite the higher likelihood it will be damaged when my baggage is pitched around by harried ground crew. For the curious, here are a few observations about the PAMPET DOLPHIN pocket trumpet, from my brief hours playing it. Other players may have a different experience and different reports, of course…so do your research. Pros Good high range Easy to slur between partials 1st & 3rd slides have rings and, like the tuning slide, the move smoothly to adjust classically sharp pitches (such as C#, D, and E at the foot of the staff). Clever design features swappable valves Less fragile and lighter than a brass pocket trumpet No maintenance required: the valves apparently don’t need oil (just a wipe down if they get sticky, or a replacement with one of the supplied spare valves), and the slides apparently don’t need grease. I say apparently because there is no manual for the instrument. Cons The sound is muffled, not remotely brassy The centering is poor (spongy) in the low range (below C), and very narrow above that, meaning you’ll need to be quite precise to hit your pitches. Low volume, and only low volume. That’s arguably a plus in a crowded hotel or a household that values quiet. However, I prefer to practice across the large dynamic range of the trumpet, and this horn won’t support that. (If you need low volume in a hotel room, stick a practice mute into your brass trumpet… It’s tough on your lip, but you can at least work the full dynamic range.) The provided plastic mouthpieces hamper playing. Fortunately, the horn takes a standard, metal trumpet mouthpiece. The valves are slow. They’ll cut your best speed considerably on rapid exercises such as scales, Clarke, etc. ... show more

  • Would classify as an "instrument shaped" product.
Finally received this, for anyone expecting this to actually play and sound like a real musical instrument, you will not be happy. I have played trumpet professionally for over 40 years, I thought it could be useful for travel, glad I have a 4 year old grandson who might play with it.

  • Perfect for beginners – lightweight pocket trumpet that's fun to play Perfect for beginners – lightweight pocket trumpet that's fun to play
I definitely fall under the beginner category, and this Pocket Trumpet is fantastic! I've had a lot of fun playing this. At first my sounds were so bad that my dog thought I was injured and came running over. I still sound like a whale on occasion though but with practice I've gotten a lot better - thanks to this trumpet. This would be great for students especially those who might be trying to decide which instrument to choose, or adults like me who want to learn. The sound is very clear. It's very lightweight and easy to play - my arms never tired from holding it even when I was trying repeatedly to get the mouth position correct. I ordered the Yellow and it's a more mustard color than bright neon yellow. The size is ideal for carrying - small enough to stick into a backpack or duffel bag. It arrives in super nice packaging with a carry bag, the trumpet, 2 replacement keys, and 2 mouthpieces. It is completely made from a plastic material and should last for a long time. It's easy to quick start although mine didn't come with instructions - I wish it had. This is a fantastic learning instrument, and a great value. Highly, highly recommend. ... show more

  • Safer for grandchildren to play with.
Novelty. Not for serious music. Resistance when playing with my regular mouthpiece. Expect less risk for damage if dropped or competitive hands wanting turns.

  • Fun toy, but not really suitable for serious trumpeters.
Color: Red
This plastic trumpet is brightly colored and looks really fun. It has the parts and pieces of a real trumpet, plays like a trumpet, and would make a great toy trumpet for kids who want to play for fun. But it is far from being suitable for anyone who is really serious about playing. Sure, for a true beginner who is just testing the waters to see if they really want to play, it is fine. But mostly, it is an expensive toy, kind of like buying a kids' play guitar. You'll get the feel for it, and you can play music on it, but if you really want to play, you need to get a real trumpet. The sound quality is about what you might expect from a plastic instrument--it's not going to be the same as what you get from a brass/metal instrument. It is lightweight and portable, and as a toy instrument for kids, it's great. But if you want a quality instrument that you can really play well, this is not it. I would still recommend it as a fun kid's toy. ... show more
