I have a cat who always managed to get the fur on her chest and neck wet when drinking water. I tried some different options, and then I found this. I wasn't sure at first that the cats would understand it, but I basically just pushed the floating part down to show them the water. They figured it out right away, and I've had no problems with my cat getting her fur wet. It's easy to clean because it's steel. It holds a lot of water. I didn't install the top ring which blocks the floating disc from being removed since I didnt think it'd be necessary for cats. It makes it quicker to clean without it. The floating disc is hollow and some water does seep into it, but not enough to affect the buoyancy. I didn't want to risk bacteria and mildew so removed the bottom of the floating disc. It still floats well with just the top half of the disc. My cats prefer this bowl to a regular bowl and the fountain I had at the time. I think they like this one as it's easier for them to identify the depth of the water. I cut a larger hole in one of them to see if the cats preferred a larger space to drink from but I didn't notice a difference in their preference. I have 7 cats and got 4 water bowls, I have two filled at a time so I can quickly swap them out to be washed. ... show more

Not sure how to rate this product: It is well-made, sturdy, and "works" as designed. However, my real-life experience, is that our small golden doodle loves to splash in it with her paw until it is almost empty -- it might take her 10 minutes to spill the water one splash at a time, instead of tipping it all over in one second, but the result is still that the water goes on the floor. At least the dog has fun and finds it a great toy. My wife found it hilarious -- I hope it works better for other people, but a lot may depend on your dog's level of playfulness. ... show more

Our 100+ pound lab was very good at getting water all the way across the floor near his water dish, but this has reduced the amount of water he dribbles around by about 80 percent. I do wish that it came in different color choices as the green is not our first choice. This bowl was great for travelling. We took it in the car on a trip from Florida to New York and back and it was great not to worry about the water sloshing out of the bowl as easily. Because the top of the bowl sits higher, it also makes it more difficult to be tipped or flipped over. ... show more
