I live in Texas where summers take us straight to the heat danger zone. My 15 year old pug requires serious protection from the heat. Inevitably he has to leave the air conditioning and take a ride in the car. Yes, there is air conditioning, but the cool-off time is critical and the car air conditioning is designed to reach me, not a dog lying on the seat. This mat stays cool to the touch for that vital time it takes for the cool down. On very short trips it is hard to get things really cool fast enough. This is potentially a life threatening situation for him. Do not keep the mat in the car. Keep it inside in the air conditioning and place it on the car seat when you bring the dog out. Take it back in when you return. The large size gives him plenty of room to choose a spot. I keep it folded up in a go bag for him along with water and a collapsible bowl. It's just regular fabric they moistened with water to feel impressively "cool" when you take it out the packaging. Then it dries out and you realize you've been duped.

My cat Monty loves it so instead of taking over my pillow and area on the bed, I put the cooling pad and he goes on top of it and sleeps there instead. Love that it is soft and washable.

When I first received this mat and looked at it I thought this is not what I wanted or expected because it looks a bit cheap however I put this over my seat covers in my car on really hot days and it actually is cooler than the polyester material my seat covers are made of and my rear end doesn't get too hot and sweat. I was under the impression these were a bit thicker or heftier that a towel, but they are just about the same thickness and heft. I use a fan to keep my dogs cool outside and the draft from that fan will roll these up and away in a minute. Other than that, my dogs are laying on them and they *seem* happy, so that's all that really matters. I'll break out the laser thermometer and take some readings to see if they really are cooler or not.... ... show more
