Description

  • Pretty awesome, room for improvement on next gen
The media could not be loaded. So this is pretty much top of the line and as good as gets. I’m restoring a vintage fireplace and converting it to electric and this is definitely the way to go. Pros: realist look available as of now (winter 2020). Great size for a malm or preway. Looks as real as you’ll get. Cons: I find it extremely dumb that this doesn’t have an option to put out heat. Who thought, hey let’s make an awesome electric fireplace insert that doesn’t have an option to produce heat?!? Completely absurd in my opinion. Heating should be built in with a toggle for on and off, come on guys. If you want heat, you’ll need to buy a little heater to put hide in there somehow. So annoying because space is limited in my unit. A 1500w is to large so I’m going to have to try one or two 500w. I’m still happy to have the ambiance but part of that is heat. So again, come on guys. My goal is to make this into a “smart” appliance and i thought this would be easily done by a power strip. I’m using the Vocoline power strip with Apple HomeKit support and it pretty much works as I anticipated. I can group the outlets on the strip, and name the strip “fireplace” and say something like turn on the fireplace. This turns on everything plugged into. Now, I didn’t get the recommend sound cracker thing because I needed one that plugged in. So get a white sound machine with fire and get it set (volume etc) and your good to go. So now hear, sound works- but the fireplace doesn’t. This is because of the switches they chose to use. On is a push in and out (to activate mist), that seems to reset itself. The other is a slide button (to turn on the lights) that also seems to forget what it is set to. I can’t figure this out so I may need to really get in there and see how this can be resolved. The heater and sound machine (and any other item plugged into a smart outlet) turns back on to whatever settings it was set to. This doesn’t seem to be happening though and it’s could be a deal breaker if I can get a work around. The last con, is that you basically have to move all the logs around and lift the big one in the rear completely out, in order to get to the water tank that needs to be filled up. Which is about...maybe 8 to 12 hours of use I think. I found that you can fill up, connect it and let sit for a moment, then go fill it up again. It empties about 1/3 right when you set it in, as I guess it fills up the internal tank. So if you go top of the removable one again then install everything back, you get more use. There may be a way to set a plumbing line to it but I won’t be able to that given it’s location. So be aware, if you’re going to use this for date night or a weekend, you need to fill it up before hand and then put it back together (about 5 minutes, and not really that big of a deal). Overall it is still the best solution I have found. ... show more

  • Most realistic electric fireplace
We love it! A friend came over and didn’t believe it was not “real” until he got up close to it. Plenty of “smoke”. Even when it’s off it looks realistic.

  • Looks so real
I love this fireplace so much that I purchased a second one for my home. Very realistic looking.

  • Constantly refilling this thing
So, this thing is alright. I got it to replace a propane fireplace in my greatroom because I was concerned about my young children getting burned on a hot fireplace. It does an okay job. The 'smoke' is fairly convincing although I think there could be more of it. My biggest gripe is how often I have to fill it up. Its basically empty every other day, and its a pain to refill it all the time. I'm trying to figure out if I can pipe water to it and maybe set up a float system in the little tank so that i don't have to continually pull this out and fill it up. I think the price point should honestly be closer to maybe $300 or $400 tops considering what you get. Also, I would highly recommend a pure black surround and backing. Initially I just had this set in place without a black backing and surround and i was really underwhelmed. I painted the surround a dark flat black and that really made the 'flames' pop out a lot more. Also, just as an FYI, it also looks much more convincing in a dark room at night. During the day with the sun shining on it you can barely even tell its on. A larger tank and more 'smoke' would seem like small improvements that could make a big difference to this thing. Overall I'm not super disappointed or anything, I'm just not super impressed either. ... show more

  • Not realistic, awkward to refill water canister, logs unstable
I would not recommend this item. The flame is not realistic and the water canister is hard to access. The canister is located behind all the logs and it is awkward to remove and replace after filled. When the shipment arrived, two of the logs were damaged with holes in the ends. I contacted the supplier and they said they would send replacement logs. Instead, I received a replacement grate 3 months later. The logs have sticky pads that are supposed to align to pads on the grate, but they do not. Even after adding extra sticky pads, they do not stay in place. I do not feel the quality is worth the purchase price of $865. ... show more

  • The best substitute for a wood fireplace
I had to stop burning real wood in our fireplace due to allergy issues. The Opti-Myst faux logs insert is the closest second I've found. The difference is discernible on close inspection, but its ambiance is spot on and it will fool a casual observer. It's the only electric fireplace I've seen that isn't comical in its fire representation; the myst effect really does work and resemble smoke coming from a fire. I wish there were a way to plumb this unit, but that kit is only available for the Pro models. Dimplex, if you're reading - I'd love if you made a retrofit plumbing kit available for this unit. ... show more

  • Not the best customer support. Remote will not work. No instructions included in the box?
The media could not be loaded. We were originally going to return the product because we couldn't get the remote to work and then we saw some tiny button on the right side, that when you push it, allows the remote will work, but there's nothing in the instructions on this we figured it out by accident, and although we don't see any flames that come up from the unit, just smoke, my wife does like the nice fire atmosphere and we will keep it. Photos in the ad sure look nice with all the flames coming up, but that doesnt really happen. Love the glowing logs and embers if they could make flames, it would be the winner. Btw, There were no instructions included with the product. For $ 800, you shouldn't have to go online and print out 20 pages of how to put it together. ... show more
