As someone who does a lot of laser cutting and 3D printing, I own... well, a lot of pairs of calipers. They're indispensable for 3d modeling, copying existing objects and planning new ones. As such, I've noticed there's a wide variance in quality - some calipers have lower accuracy and are very plasticky, while others are much more resilient with more significant figures on your measurements. These are some of the nicest I've tried, and are a quite affordable price too - I think they're an easy recommend. Things I like about these that distinguish them from others: - Two extra batteries are included. These things eat through batteries and run out at the least opportune time, and because they're a weird coin cell you probably don't keep them on hand. - The screen is protected by a screen protector when it arrives. (I suspect this is why the other reviewer thought the screen was scratched, as I did too at first - but once I peeled it off the screen was perfectly crystal clear.) - The buttons are clicky and responsive, not mushy and rubbery. - The jaws are made of metal and make a precise connection to whatever you are measuring. - There's a tension adjustment screw on the top to hold the jaws in place if you've made a careful measurement in an awkward spot. - The calipers read to 0.01mm accuracy, matching my best other set that I own. The only thing I don't like here is that the battery compartment requires a screw. It solves the "compartment pops open" problem most other calipers suffer from, so props to them for that, but means replacing the battery is ever so slightly annoying. At least they give you a little screwdriver to keep in the case. I think it's probably a reasonable tradeoff overall - if you've ever been to a makerspace you know the "lemme hold in the battery so I can take a measurement" problem is real on cheaper models - but I'd still challenge them to come up with a solution that doesn't involve a screw. Very nice calipers and probably my new favorite model, replacing Vinca (which was my previous favorite).

A machinist would likely rate this tool lower than 5 stars - because they're used to getting, and paying for, highly precise tools that support working in extremely tight tolerances. But a DIY homeowner would likely rate this as I will - 5 stars. This is your ticket to making only ONE trip to your favorite big box home store, instead of two or three. And for 18 bucks, avoiding even one extra trip, especially if it involves hitting the returns counter, makes this caliper worth every penny. The bad, or at least, not great: it's time for single-use batteries to disappear in favor of rechargeables. This tool comes with a watch battery pre-installed, plus two spares and a screwdriver to get after replacing them. The tool also features auto-on, and auto-off, which should maximize the life of the battery. The included plastic case, while appreciated, is not of very high quality - the tabs holding it closed hold it a bit too tightly, and the hinges are just creased plastic and will not have a long life. That's not too bad for bad, especially considering the 18 buck price. The good - there are lots of features here for the money. One of the novel design ideas is the use of a thermally stable glass-based compound for the measuring benchmark. The idea is that this glass composite will expand and contract less than steel and produce more accurate readings over a larger temperature range than typical calipers. It also has very convenient one-hand utility. Everything you need to do can be accomplished with a thumb and the grip of one hand. New to me is the option of measurements in 128ths of an inch for easy conversion to Imperial measurements, in addition to the traditional metric and S.A.E. measurements. The calipers provide the traditional inside, outside, and depth measurements. In short, this is everything a homeowner might want for DIY projects in a self-contained, easy to store package. For the homeowner, this is a great choice if you're going to have just one caliper. Recommended.
