  • Fantastic Sleeper Sofa for This Range
Color: Yellow
Just got 'er in today, but I wanted to give a quick review of my experience thus far, because I'm so happy with my little yellow couch! I've broken my review down into subcategories for ease of comprehension. ORDERING AND DELIVERY: 5/5. Got here sooner than originally planned (ordered Sunday, received today, Friday morning; originally slated for a 7- to 10-day delivery time... underpromise and overdeliver, I see you, Amazon!). The box is a big, big boy. Not wide - maybe 18"ish or so across - but tall, almost 4 feet high, and heavy as a sonofagun (I'd guess 105 or 110 lbs). Fully assembled, a 5'8" or 5'9" person can fit perfectly comfortably both length-wise and seat depth-wise, sitting and laying down, so it's not a small piece. I'm glad I live on the main floor and that I was home to help the nice delivery guys slither the box up the stairs and through the door. Don't worry about porch pirates making off with this guy unless you live near kleptomaniac bodybuilders, because it ain't going nowhere without some serious help. ASSEMBLY: 4/5. I'm not the fittest gal around, nor am I particularly spatially gifted, but I'm fairly strong, and I have a rich and storied history with flat-pack/ready-to-assemble furniture. That being said, my 3 brain cells and I panicked when I first opened the box and I didn't see the legs or hardware anywhere. Look for the red plastic string dangling out of the main cushion when you take it out of the box! Open it up/unfold it and you'll find all the legs and hardware tucked in there sneaky-sneaky-like in a cardboard box. Everything was all there. I did break a decent sweat putting this thing together, which took me maybe 1h20m/1h30m. I had to pop a hole in the fabric on an arm piece because it hadn't been properly cut during manufacturing, but no biggie; there was a hole in the wood, just needed to take an Xacto knife and finish the job in the fabric. 5.5/10 difficulty for assembly; it's a large piece so it's pretty awkward and heavy to assemble yourself, but doable, and direction-wise, I've seen and assembled way worse. QUALITY AND COMFORT: 4.8/5. It's a $300 - $400 sleeper sofa, so I'm aware that it isn't gonna be solid hand-carved mahogany, stuffed with rare Norwegian goose down and/or an heirloom that will be a museum piece one day. But I knew that going in at this price point - if I get 5 or 7 years out of this guy, I'll be thrilled. As a couch, it's a perfect mix of squishy foam and supportive coils/frame. I've yet to sleep on it, and will update if needed, but I'm guessing it'll be a respectable enough bed for a family member/friend who's staying for the occasional long weekend or so. N.B.: I did deduct .2 points here. Like pretty much every couch that isn't overstuffed to begin with, it needs some throw pillows to make it perfectly snuggly, and I did subtract a teensy bit just because I don't think it'll withstand repeated abuse well - but for $300/$400ish, hopefully you knew that going in. If you've got young/destructive kids/grandkids, big dogs, claw-happy cats or if you yourself love to body-slam yourself down on the couch with all your might, you're gonna have a bad time with this couch, because it isn't built to handle that. But if you're single/a couple, only have the occasional guest, and/or have older/gentler kids/pets/you yourself and aren't gonna swing on it and beat it to death, I feel like it's solid enough to last you a good few years or more. My cats are ungrateful hellions who love to scratch all the nice things I own, so I'm bummed in advance that it's gonna have 18 million claw-sized puncture holes. VALUE FOR MONEY: 5/5. Well done Amazon for having the best price on this guy. Wayfair wanted $369 for it (sold under the name "Joy Sleeper Sofa by Foundstone"), and DHP's website (the company that manufactures this) wanted $444 AND they were out of stock. I picked up this boy for $299.99 and couldn't be more delighted to know that other people paid more than I did. OVERALL: 5/5. You're not buying a custom-made artisan sofa, you're buying a couch on Amazon that you have to put together yourself with a Munchkin-sized wrench and some ambiguous diagrams. It isn't gonna survive prolonged or repeated manhandling, but you already knew that going in. For a sleeper sofa of this price range, it's a fantastic deal, and you won't find better in its class. Will it last you 20 years of heavy use? No. But will it be a very cute little sleeper sofa that'll see you through the occasional houseguest and some normal sitting and lounging? Yes, and it'll look darn adorable the whole time. ... show more

  • Great Purchase 👌
Color: Yellow
Update: Couch still going strong! It stains easily, but cleans up well with a spot steam cleaner. There were some reviews about not being sturdy enough to for kids... but our kids have been jumping on it for almost a year now and it's still in great shape! We love our new yellow couch! As mentioned in previous reviews, the yellow isn't as bright as in the picture. It's more of a "spicy brown mustard" color vs. "yellow mustard" color, but we like it. It won't stain as easy as the bright yellow would've. We were worried about assembly because of the reviews, but it was much easier than anticipated! The tools they give you aren't the best, but we used our own tools and it made it much easier. The bar on the back isn't as prominent as I thought it would be, and I like it because it gives the couch more structural support when laid down as a futon. When laid out, it will fit one comfortably, and two if they like to snuggle. Overall, it seems pretty sturdy, and we are pleased that we decided to go with this futon! After hours of reading reviews, I found that every futon is going to have something that someone somewhere doesn't like, but we are very happy with our decision to go with this one. ... show more

  • Great results, but the journey is long and hard...
Color: Grey
Let's get the good stuff out up front: the end result is great. Looks clean and nice, and is super comfortable. Seems well-built. I like that both sections can be adjusted individually, and have well-hidden legs in the zippered backs to support it when open. Overall, it's a huge improvement over what we had before for a pretty reasonable price. Now for the bad... Delivery: Frankly, I'm not sure Amazon should even be selling this, as the delivery companies are completely unprepared for it. In my case it was FedEx who seemed to go out of their way to find excuses not to deliver it, with claims of my gate not working, and claiming my "business" (home) was closed when I was actively home and no attempt was made to reach me. But eventually after much fighting with them over the phone, they arranged a time to deliver it. A rather small delivery person in a small van arrived and called me, and I met him out front. The box was impossibly large and heavy for him to manage on his own, and I had to help. While I was happy to do so, again, this is not something the delivery companies are apparently equipped to handle AT ALL. As we got it inside my apartment complex and to the staircase, we were faced with the impossibility of getting it up the stairs. And as we attempted to do so, parts began to fall out of the box, which had ALL FOUR corners destroyed. I think it might be smart for the company to reinforce the corners with some sort of corner plastic sheeting to prevent this in the future. We decided our only option was to rip open the box in the alleyway and carry the pieces up individually, with my fingers crossed the whole time that none were missing. Eventually they were all in and he was on his way. Assembly: Thankfully all the pieces were there. The company managed to pack everything small in a package kept between the cushions, ensuring it was safe from this sort of damage, with only the larger pieces on the outside. Instructions were mostly clear, although they warn of not over-tightening until done, but never indicate when to tighten and just how seriously they mean this. I eventually found with several components that not over-tightening basically meant to barely screw it in at all, because if it's even remotely close to its finished spot the holes no longer line up with the next steps. But then, on step 2, we ran into a serious problem. One of the side pieces had the wrong-sized screw holes in it for the hand-tightened, double-ended bolts provided. I couldn't get them to go in more than a smidge. Assuming it was me for a while, I then tried the other side piece and everything went in without a hitch. I tried several screws and all the holes and confirmed every single one on that side piece was wrong. I had to reach out to the company via the form on their website, and then had a back-and-forth via email with photos, proof of purchase, etc. They shipped a replacement which arrived TEN days later, but was functionally correct. The rest of the setup was rough. It's not easy to put together. Super heavy main unit, plus screw holes that are VERY hard to line up. If you're used to IKEA, this is definitely far from it. This process led to a lot of profanity and sweat and annoyance. But eventually it was complete, and you know the results. I do recommend this futon, but the warnings need to be heeded. Expect work, take not overtightening screws to its most extreme level, and have time, water (or something stronger), and calming music on hand. ... show more

  • Perfect couch for my extra room
Color: Grey
This couch is awesome. Comparable to something you would find at World Market. Probably not the most comfortable thing to sleep on, but would definitely work for short stays or as a kids sleeper. This can fit one adult. Two adults would be miserable on this thing. Keep in mind that while you're saving money, you have to do all of the work yourself. I had to get a replacement because the first one I received was missing a part. Amazon did eventually resolve the issue, but sometimes dealing with customer service can be a pain. It was worth it for me. I love my new couch! ... show more
