  • Buy This Now or Regret You Didn't Later
Seriously. This spent over a year on my wish list before I finally got angry enough at hex screws to order the set. Now I think back of all the things in my house -- furniture, bikes, equipment, paintball guns, you name it -- that have hex screws or bolts and am angry at myself for it. This set seems obscure on the surface until you really start to think how much stuff these days comes with hex bolts. The answer's a lot more than you'd expect. You'll use this far more than you anticipate. As a tool and set, it's great. The quality is top-notch and having multiple length bits is superb. I've yet to really run across one that I needed and didn't have. The ratcheting handle works alright but the huge win for these is that they also fit into both impact drills (with the smaller speed chucks) and regular old drill/drivers. Thickness and strength are superb but if you do manage to break it, DeWALT backs these with a lifetime warranty. The ratcheting T handle it also pretty nice if you don't want to dig out a drill to tighten up the loose bolt here and there. It does provide a decent amount of leverage, but I did feel I was over-torquing it a bit when really cranking down on it. It's worth having around for tighter spots or if you're taking this set with you on the go (camping, etc) and don't want to pack an entire shop. The fit of the hex key is also top-notch. Mine don't boast a substantial amount of wear yet so after a few years they may loosen up but -- as of now -- they actually end up sticking in the hex key head which I prefer. Also worth noting that these are straight hex keys. They don't have the ball-end so you won't be able to get them in at angles very well. As others have stated, the case is the achilles heel of this set. It feels cheap, the insert is sub-par for DeWALT and the little bar holding the bits seems always on the verge of breaking. It's also extraordinarily (and unnecessarily) massive. I really hate it. That said, the trade off is a set of T-Handled hex keys which take up a ton of workbench space, a folding set which aren't always ideal, or a 'loose' set which you'll end up having some fall out. In short, the case is bad but no worse than this set's alternatives. I did compare the length of the long bits to a 'regular' Rigid bit case and it looks like they'll fit once empty. If you don't mind the disorganization and these getting banged around a little, you could probably reuse a regular case. I don't have an empty one yet, though, so haven't tried. Side note: once I had this seed planted in my mind, I did look for less expensive alternatives at Harbor Freight, etc since I thought this one was a bit pricey. At that time (May, 2015) I didn't find any. Having now owned this set and used it a surprising amount of times, it's worth the price any day. ... show more

  • Good, but...
This review is for the DWHT70265 31 piece set with ratcheting handle. I purchased this set because of the DeWalt name and because it had the size and length Allen wrenches I needed all in one set. I had just purchased an impact driver and needed this assortment of bits. Pros: Arrived next day with Prime. Has a lifetime warranty so I suspect they will be durable. Has both long and short lengths of each size Allen wrenches that I will need. Cons: As others have mentioned, the case is just so-so. Not the easiest for getting the bits in and out, but it does keep them organized. Not sure how long the inner organizer will hold up. Based on the picture in the listing, I thought I was choosing a set that had a different case (in the picture there were no black straps holding the long bits across their mid section) , so was a little disappointed when it was the same case others had complained about. Don't know if that was an old picture, but it was part of the decision to go with this purchase, and hoping for a less fiddly case that others had cited as a negative. The biggest drawback of this set is the bits DO NOT have the retainer groove in the shank for keeping them in place in the impact driver. My Porter Cable impact driver (as do others) has the quick disconnect locking mechanism that locks onto the bits with the retaining groove. It also has a small magnet inside the chuck that keeps the bit in place for the most part, but it is not strong enough to prevent the bit from pulling out during use. So, every time you tighten an Allen screw, the bit will stick to the screw just enough that it will pull out of the impact driver instead of the screw. This is frustrating as it takes two hands to disengage the bit from the screw - one to hold the impact driver and one to hold the bit. Since this is my first impact driver I had not experienced this issue before and therefore this was something I did not think about when making the purchase. So the fault is on me for not realizing this omission in the product design was going to be a problem for me. Just hoping that this will bring the issue to light for others shopping for this product. This set is nice other than the issues mentioned in the Cons above. I will continue to look for a similar set that has the retainer groove as that would be so much nicer. Unfortunately, when I was shopping I did not see another set that had the same long/short bits all conveniently together. Still undecided if I will keep this set or send back. ... show more

  • Great Product
This product is a fantastic find! It's reasonably priced, making it accessible for most budgets without compromising on quality. The product is exactly as described, and its usefulness cannot be overstated. I've found it to be incredibly practical and efficient in meeting my needs. The attention to detail is impressive, and the performance is on par with more expensive alternatives. If you're looking for something reliable, well-made, and at a fair price point, this is the perfect choice. Highly recommended! ... show more

  • Great product for assembling furniture toys etc
Whenever you buy something that has to be put together an alan key or a metric key is provided and it takes forever. This ratcheting set makes it easy to reach you get long and short extensions and needs no power. You can also use the bits in a cordless drill too to really speed things up. Remember to set the chuck down to a reasonable level of like 6 inch pounds so you don’t strip heads. The cheap hardware provided with most things is the weakest link. ... show more

  • Good value
The overall package is a bit larger than it really needs to be as is the handle itself. The back drag on the ratchet is a little stiff as well, but still very serviceable. I do like that it does have open slots for adding some of your own bits, and the extra hex holder on the grip of the handle is really nice. At $40, this would be four stars, but for the $22 I paid for it, it's an easy 5. ... show more

I've used these constantly since purchased. I'm a dewalt guy througha dn through so maybe biast a bit. But these are great especially tight spots and good gearing in handle. Haven't had an issue using these. Wish it had a bit more variety in it but never the less great buy for price.
