Description

The 15 Amp motor in this 12-inch Double-Bevel Compound Miter Saw drives 3,800 rpm to deliver extended power and durability. The integrated CUTLINE feature (LED work light system) provides adjustment-free cut line indication for accuracy and visibility. This saw has a stainless-steel miter detent plate with 14 positive stops and cam miter lock system that provides repeatable accuracy and durability with easy adjustments. Tall sliding fences support 6-1/2-inch of base molding vertically and 6-5/8-inch of crown molding vertically nested. High-efficiency dust duct is concentrated at the point of cut for maximum collection. Its lightweight design and built-in carry handle provide portability.

I snagged this on a great Black Friday deal to replace a hand-me-down that may have been older than I. I love the shadow cut line. It's such a brilliant, but simple idea and it works. No calibration required. The various controls to change angles are fairly standard. They're not any harder than any other saw but for infrequent users you may still have to dig the manual out as they're not, at first glance, intuitive. The dual bevel feature is very handy. I hada 20 year old DeWalt single bevel. It was worn out. The new saw has the laser cutline feature. Very nice. It's a very smooth table to adjust to different angles. Higher fences are nice. The only thing I don't like about any new tool are the safety start switches. However this dual bevel DeWalt safety start is not as annoying to get used to. ... show more

I had hoped this saw would be as good as I heard it was. It is. Only needed one very small adjustment to the cutting blade perpendicular to the table surface. Easily done. The detent stops were dead on out-of-the-box. One thing I like about this saw is that when moved off one detent angle for another, when coming back to that previous angle the cut is exactly where it was before. I.e. the repeat angle cuts are perfect - as they should be. It's a very accurate and robust saw. Well worth the money paid it. 5-stars ... show more

I should start this review off by stating that I use this saw for more precision work than rough carpentry. I am more interested in accurate angles and tight miters than raw power. Luckily with this saw, I got both. First, when removing the saw from the box you get a sense of quality immediately. The saw was well packaged, almost to a fault. If they had thrown this thing off the back of the UPS truck without slowing down I think it would have been just fine. The saw's overall appearance and finish are great. The machined aluminum bed is bright, clean and smooth and the angle dial at the bottom is large and easy to see. Nothing wiggles or flexes and the saw has considerable heft that induces confidence but wont break your back. If you're doing finish work. I would recommend cutting through some stock to get most of the yellow off of the blade that will smear on your initial cuts. A minor inconvenience as this could be sanded off as well. While I thought that the XPS system would be a silly gimmick (at the time of purchase the XPS was cheaper than the regular model), I was pleasantly surprised. This system is dead on accurate. You have to get the blade close to what you're cutting to cast a defined shadow, but you'd likely be doing this anyways for a precision marking. The motor pulls strong and goes through hardwoods like oak, walnut and ash with ease. If all you're looking for is a durable job site saw that can blow through 2x4s like they aren't even there, this saw will work for you. If you're looking for a saw that can make perfect 45s on that rosewood jewelry box, this saw will work for you. Basically, whatever your purpose, I can attest that this saw will work for you. ... show more

I purchased the DWS780 version of this saw four years ago to build my new workshop. It has operated flawlessly. I love the CUTLINE LED light feature. The 780 has the sliding feature, and now with my woodshop done, the slide forces me to set it 10 inches from the wall, so I bought this saw - THE SAME SAW WITHOUT THE SLIDE, and now will sell the 780. The 716XPS is a great saw for my current needs, and the 780 was a great saw for my construction needs, I cut those wide boards with ease and accurately. I wanted the same accuracy INSIDE my woodshop.     • How to have a dual LED/Laser cut guide system on this saw

While I love the LED blade sighting system for work laid flat on the saw table, it doesn't work well for work at an angle up to the fence, such as when cutting crown moulding laid at an angle on edge from the front of the saw table back to the upper part of the saw fence with the cut mark on the lower part of the moulding. For the latter I really want to have a laser because it focuses across the entire cut line. I mounted my old Irwin 3061001 miter saw laser (no longer available, but the Oshlun LG-M01 Miter and Portable Saw Laser Guide, Miter & Portable Saws looks to be an equivalent). When I want to use the laser, I leave the LED light for the XPS guide turned off and I see the red laser line. When I want to use the XPS LED guide, I turn it on and I have found that the LED light is bright enough near the cutting line that I cannot see the laser line, and so then I can use the shadow lines on both sides of the blade. Of course, the laser line projects only on the left side of the blade, but I'm fine with that. If the Oshlun is about like my old Irwin, the I expect that the Oshlun will work in this configuration as well. ... show more
