I wasn't sure that I would like this with the gyroscopic control, but now that I've had it a few years (bought in 2022) and used it pretty frequently I'm a big fan. The gyroscopic control is very sensitive and quickly becomes quite intuitive, so you can easily manage it from very slow gently controlled action for lightweight and delicate materials, up to full speed quick action for installing or removing multiple long screws or bolts. The rotation options for the handle are a nice feature, I usually have it in the right angle mode as that gives me better torque and feels more controlled, but turning it to the straight orientation of the handle works just fine as well. I really like that it has a range of responsiveness, so I can easily control slow turns as well as bumping it up to full speed with just a slight flick of the wrist. The controlling motion of your hand is quite subtle so even in tight quarters it responds nicely. I really noticed this after I got a simple electric screwdriver that is more basic and just has two buttons--clockwise or counterclockwise--and does not have any speed control, when you push the button it goes full speed so I really noticed that is terrible for controlling small screws in delicate materials where stripping out the threads is a greater risk. The two small batteries for this DeWalt have solid lifespan with normal household DIYer use, I don't use this for a daily high-use business so I can't really comment on that with any personal knowledge. The little features as well like the position of the light is good for seeing the working end in dark spots, and the little bit holder works quite well also with metal components that hold the bits securely and will hold up over time. Solid build quality overall for this grade of a tool. Bottom line, I really like this and would buy it again.

I own and have owned many rechargeable tools in my life. Dewalt, Festool, Milwaukee, Makita....You get the point. It's not that I haven't been impressed with a new tool in the past, but this one really took me back. Extremely well thought out. Design is amazing to say the least. I was extremely skeptical of the Gyroscopic feature, but It is the wow in my reaction! Cool as all get-out!!! The Gyroscopic works with the screwdriver in any position, horizontal, vertical or anywhere in-between. Put the bit on the screw and turn the tool just a little either direction and the bit starts to turn in that direction. Turn the tool a little bit more and the bit turns faster. Absolutely amazing! I ordered this super compact screwdriver for my quick grab tool pouch, it's a Veto Pro Pac CP4. Usually when I find that I'm going to need a rechargeable drill I have to go back to the truck. I thought It would be nice to not have to do that as much since most of the time it's a light duty task. Keep a few 1/4 hex drill bits and 1/4 hex nut driver bits, 6 inch extension and you can cover a lot of little tasks with this little cordless screwdriver. I think if I lost this tomorrow and went back onto Amazon to order another one to find that they triple the price, I'm pretty sure I would still order it. It's truly an amazing addition to my tool collection. I read the reviews before buying this and I saw that not everyone was pleased. Let me just say this. The tool is what it is and is not designed for every task, but I think you would love it for most light duty tasks. Is this cordless screwdriver going to replace all my other cordless drill guns? Absolutely not! But, it is now a part of my tool family. For me, it's always been about using the right tool for the right job. This screwdriver is going to be the right tool for a lot of jobs!

Best electric screwdriver designed yet, but discontinued! I have used many cordless screwdrivers, and all of them were ok, but without the features of the discontinued Max. Gyroscopic proportional speed. As far as I know, no other quality screwdriver has this outstanding feature. It takes little practice to master, but after that, it is like an extension of your hand. By using your wrist rotation, you can adjust the speed of the screwdriver. Start at low speed, then a slight clockwise twist of your wrist accelerates, and then slow down by a slight counterclockwise twist of your wrist as you get closer to the end. The speed variation in smooth and infinite increments between minimum and maximum speed. 8V removable and base rechargeable batteries. You did not have to stop and recharge it with a USB cable to continue working. It included 2 batteries, which are enough for any project. Of course, all the other features other screwdrivers also have, like LED lights, a twisting grip for tight spots, a case, etc. DeWalt, please bring back the Max! PS. I would not buy the replacement unit (DWHT66719) for the following reasons. 4V internal battery. Overpriced for the provided functionality. Many no-name electric screwdrivers are priced a lot better and some are made from stronger materials like aluminum and have cases. Per reviews, the LED lights are weak. No proportional speed; just 2 speeds.

Like others, I, too, was skeptical of the whole gyroscope mechanism that this little bugger implements. I just could not envision how it could possibly work, nor did I understand the practical implications of such an innovation. Well, brutha, I have seen the light. Where once I worshipped at the altar of the manual forward & reverse switch, I now pay oath and fealty to the almighty gyroscope. Where I was once perpetually confused over which way my screw was screwing based on switch position, my soul is now nourished by a simple turn of the wrist. I prostrate myself and have been baptized and reborn in the magnificent glow of the Church of DeWalt. I doubt anyone can truly understand, much less appreciate, just how labor-saving and intuitive the gyroscope function on this wonderful cordless screwdriver is without having first tried it. I perform maintenance on laptops and I’m utterly convinced that this magical contraption has single-handedly saved my sanity and my wrist from CTS. Since it takes standard ¼” bits, the world is yours regarding what sort of screws you need to spin in or out. For those wondering, YES, this is perfect match for finesse work. If you’ve got the right bit, you can safely manipulate just about any screw. The gyroscope responds wonderfully and it’s almost spooky just how natural and obvious it becomes just after one or two uses. Its analog nature certifies that only the requisite amount of torque is utilized to avoid head stripping. It becomes almost like an extension of your own hand. Cronenberg himself would be impressed. And if you’re just that unsure of yourself, you can simply not pull the trigger and use this as a manual screwdriver for those final twists. Of course, implementing this sublime and sexy feature means additional complexity. Will the gyroscope continue to operate a year or two down the line? That is an excellent question and one that, regrettably, I cannot answer. You are taking your chances with any sort of new tech and this driver is no different. However, you owe it to yourself to give this gift from the gods a whirl. After just a few minutes, you, too, will be writing checks to your local DeWalt pastor while simultaneously shouting Hallelujah! and Praise Be! on high along with the rest of the congregation. Sing it!

This is a nice tool. Is it perfect, no. But it is very nice. It is not a powerful drill with a clutch for driving purposes. It is an electric screwdriver. Buy it for that purpose and you should be happy. So far i have used it for installing door hardware, a house fan grill and some electrical switches. This and general light to medium assembly is the type of work that this really is great for. It also will be fantastic for disassembling a dashboard. I got tired of repeatedly buying cheap disposable NiCad cordless screwdrivers every few years. I had been looking for a Li battery driver with a good LED light and a folding handle so it fits in more places. This is more powerful and faster than the typical 3.6v screwdrivers I had been using with great success over the years. It is also variable speed. I bought this kit with two batteries. Very important if you plan on doing a long work session. Long term this will probably save money over the cheap tools and it works better! The gyroscopic control takes a bit of getting used to. It works fine. Is it an improvement over a typical switch? Maybe, maybe not. One thing caught me off guard. At first I thought it had only low or moderate torque until I realized the maximum torque setting for the clutch is set at the low end of the dial not at the high end. Not a problem but unexpected. I WOULD HAVE GIVEN IT 5 STARS if Dewalt had included the conduit reamer on this model and the tool was made in USA or almost anywhere but China. The reamer is only available on the straight, no hinge model. A friend has the Milwaukee version and it works fine as Milwaukee tools do, but does not have the folding handle that this does. Many others have described the features in more detail so you also might want to read some of those excellent reviews. Bought this on my wife's account. jaywish

As a professional remodeler there are many times I find typical impact drivers a little overly heavy, large and powerful for, like when installing cabinet hinges, drawer pulls, door locksets and hinges. These applications where most screw holes are pre-drilled simply don't require the same power as driving 3" decking screws for hours at a time. That's where this little guy really shines (no pun intended, but DeWalt is getting much better with the LED lighting on their tools and this one is really good). It's light weight, compact and capable. As a test, on Max torque without a pilot hole I drove a 2 1/2" deck screw into two thickness of 2x4 SPF and it mostly flushed-up the head before stopping. For wrapping exterior trim with aluminum I often pre-drill the metal where a trim nail will go to prevent "oil canning" and this little guy is light enough to carry in a tool pouch all day and powerful enough to get the job done. I expect its unfamiliar mode of operation requiring a twist of the wrist to become second-nature following enough practice, where as currently it takes some forethought. Rather than operating it in a somewhat awkward or uncomfortable wrist position my thought is to engage the fastener with the tool canted to one side or the other then turn it to a more natural position while it does the majority of its work, but that's just personal preference. The kind of fasteners this tool is appropriate for don't require a death grip on the tool to get the job done. The adjustable torque function is where other manufactures often fall short but this one seems to work very well. For my needs this is a specialized tool that won't see everyday use, or even every week, but I expect it to make the work it's designed for easier, faster and more pleasant to do.

Ok let me start off by stating this listing is for two different screw drivers so I will review them both, as I have had both for a considerable amount of time. Ill start off with the DCF680N2 - Gyroscopic Screw Driver - Five Stars all day long, I love this thing. No you won't be building a house with it, or a deck, its not meant for that. Think of it as an "over sized precision screw driver". This thing has some power, you can drive screws into 2X4's for hanging stuff all day long and if you are doing a lot of hobby work, this thing is perfect for RC cars, electrical work, etc. I do a lot of low voltage, networking, CCTV and Access Control installations and this is my all time favorite screw driver. I can undo domes on cameras, mount equipment into server racks, the clutch is nice for not over driving face plates, this thing shines at every task, you can make it smaller by making it into a right angle or leave it as a stick. Hands down once you get comfortable with the Gyro function, this thing will be your favorite tool. Batteries last a fair amount of time, thankfully you get two in this kit, which is plenty, because they charge faster than you can use them. Finding spare batteries is hard and they aren't really that available although the aftermarket non OEM batteries on amazon do work well, I have a pair for emergencies when I have a rough day. The only gripe I am having is the clutch markings are wearing off the screw driver. It does live in my tool drawer on a bed of foam but the numbers are wearing off. I have had this driver for over two years, and use it several times a week, I plan to be buried with this screw driver, as this is my favorite screw driver for a majority of my work and its usually always in my hand. The other screw driver is the DWHT66719 - Flexdrive USB C screwdriver. I give this thing 3 Stars all day long. I am not as fond of this screw driver as I am of the Gyroscopic Screw driver. First of all this screw driver is light weight, and lacks any real power. I hate that it doesn't have a throttle control, its either full on or full off, so I feel like I am constantly stripping screws, falling off screws. Its just not great. I believe this is designed for you to twist the driver to break a screw free then engage the motor to do the twisting. The flex drive is "uniquely useless". I say that because its hard to spin the dial on the bottom, and its hard to adjust it on the fly. I have tried to really love this screw driver, but I ended up tossing it in my desk and I use it very infrequently. The battery life is decent, and if you are going to be working on RC Cars, or PC's or something down those lines it would be great. The one thing I don't like is the battery isn't removable so you have to put the tool down to charge it off the USB C cord. Although I never find myself turning that many screws to drain the battery in a day, so this isn't a problem I have ever faced and I used it to mount 20 cameras onto ceiling tiles in a day and still had juice left. I thought I would like it for electrical face plates and low voltage stuff and I honestly prefer the Gyroscopic Screwdriver which I reviewed above. I hate the ring that you have to twist and press down when you want it to go. I do like the size of the screw driver, but unfortunately I can't get a good grip on the driver when you use it one handed and have to work the ring, the thing is constantly spinning out of my hand. to adjust the Flex Drive, there is a dial on the bottom of the driver, slightly recessed in and it spins fairly easy but its just awkward. I really wish DeWalt would keep this chassis, and figure out how to put the Gyro mechanism into it because the size and weight is great, but the functionality is just not, especially with no throttle control, it just operates like a cheap Chinese screwdriver. It is tough though, it bounces well and stays together. But at the end of the day, this is just not my favorite.

The DCF682 VS the DCF680 . Ok, in general, I really like the 8v Max Gyro Tools. I hope they add more than the flashlight to the line. My minor beef comes with the DCF682. Before I bought the DCF682 , I own and have been using 2 DCF680's . The 39bux sale at HD caused me to buy the DCF682 w/o looking to closely.. Here's my review from the DCF680, that compares the two... ---------------------- When I 1st saw B&D come out with the little gyro driver a few years ago and saw the write ups, thought interesting, but no removable battery, it'll be out for that xmas and that's it, I wasn't willing to look at it any closer than the adds. Than the DCF680(N2)(N2 is 2 battery kit) came out with the removable battery, two batteries, charger, and respectable torque for a "screw driver" type tool. The great light was discussed on the reviews... I was sold. After reading, took the plunge last year, used it, loved it, and than bought another one for my other tool bag. yea, takes a bit of getting use to, took me about 10mins and I was very use to it. I find it very intuitive. I find the battery life to be more than acceptable, really haven't needed the 2nd battery before a job was over. The light circle "bar" on the end is great (there is two LEDS in there , 180 degrees from each other, and the light bezel/lens produces a very nice diffused light ring from the two LEDs). The hex driver QDC collar is easy. I use them for the small stuff. I have 12v and 18v tools for the big and bigger jobs, and corded for the biggest jobs. USES,,,,, outlet / switch plates, installing light fixtures into a present electrical box. Network plates. I have a set of hex end drill bits, for installing mollies or blinds, to drill a required holes in sheetrock or window trim. I just bought a 3rd DCF680 for my electronics bench,.... But truth be told... that was after buying the new version from HD.... the DCF682. I saw the HD sale, and threw it into my basket w/o looking to closely. I was tired of stealing the DCF680 from my field tool bag, for use on my bench. The DCF682 is what made me write this review. The DCF682 : - does not have the changeable grip (not the deal breaker for me) - does not have the clutch (deal breaker) - does not have the great light ring - just 1 led, that causes shadows (deal breaker). - comes with 1 battery (not a deal breaker, but w/o the sale price VS the DCF680N2, leaves the DCF682 with the other features missing not such a great value , at the sale price, take it for what it is) Very disappointing . I should have just returned it. But thought it usable w/o the clutch as a small pilot hole pocket drill. (wood / sheet rock). Again , the basic gyro guts work just fine. The new DCF682 (normally 69bux, now on sale for 39bux @ HD, the sale is why I bought it, but didn't look close enough to be honest), they only use 1 led that causes shadows on the target.. PIA. And no clutch... both deal killers on the bench, need the clutch and the light, or more so, I appreciated the light on the DCF680 and was looking forward to it. After using it for an hour doing some dissassembly and assembly work at my electronics bench, I was so disappointed with the lack of the features (not the torque, the torque is fine - it does call for the clutch), I ordered my third DCF680 for the electronics bench. So I put the new DCF682 into my other tool bag, I'll use it as a pilot hole driller for mollies and small stuff. I hate changing bits, even though the collar is easy enough, I'm all thumbs and drop bit all the time between changes. ----------- So with the sale at HD for 39bux for the DCF682, take it for what it is. At the sale price it's 1/2 the price of the DCF680N2. Worth trying (again, I like the 8V max gryo tools) But there is no way the DCF682 should be at a 69bux price point. Just not worth it, IMHO. Since the DCF680N2 is only 20bux more. Ignoring the features the DCF682 is lacking, ..... the basic gyro 8v max guts, it works the same as it's brother that cost 20bux more. For the normal 69bux price for the DCF682 =- no way. For the extra 20bux, the features of the DCF680 makes it a better tool , as well the DCF680 includes a 2nd battery ! Summary, basic operation, the DCF682 and the DCF680 work the same, I like the 8v max gyro. But, sale price of the DCF682 aside...with normal retail prices.... for the extra 20bux for the DCF680 (the N2 version) you get. - A far better light ring VS 1 dim led of the DCF682. - A great clutch. - Switchable grip, good for the tight spots. - a 2nd battery. - tool bag.
