The product itself is amazing. I've been using these pencils for a few years. The colors are beautiful, and blend with ease. I used these on hand crafted Christmas cards and doll repaints. The product is well worth the money. I order this set of pencils for my mom, as she has been coloring in adult coloring books. My only issue was with the shipping. Although I received this in a very timely manner, it was only wrapped in a thin bubble wrap and tape. When I opened it, the tin case was bent and taped with packing tape holding it shut (this indicated that it was obviously already damaged before shipping). I couldn't get the packing tape off, so I had to cut the tin open. At this point I thought the tin might just be damaged, but maybe the pencils would be fine and I could just find another container (kind of defeats the purpose of a nicely organized storage tin). What was inside the tin just angered me. The pencils had obviously been used. Some were shorter than others from being sharpened, and a few colors were missing having been replaced with duplicate colors. This gift I ordered through Prime, for my mom, whose birthday was in a few days, arrive a HOT MESS. I immediately called Amazon, because let's get real, during the pandemic, Amazon has been a go-to for anything and everything for a LOT of people. Out of the hundreds of items I've ordered in the past year, I've only had a handful of issues. Amazon immediately sent out a replacement that arrived the next day...it was in perfect condition and just in time for my mom's birthday. This tin does not come with many colors, but they colors it does come with are great. In particular, I wish there were more lighter skin tones. Aside from that, the pencils themselves are very good quality and the colors are useful for portraits or figure drawing.

    • Great Color Pencil Set!

With the name Derwent you expect to get a great set of colored pencils and these do not disappoint. They are soft, hence the name, so they blend well and also work great with my other pencils, Prismacolors, Polychromos, Lyra, Blick, dry Inktense and FC Albrecht Durer, Marco Renior, ect. Though Derwent pencils may cost a bit more at mid range price, though less expensive than Polychromos, remember the round barrel is large at 4mm and for me I find them comfortable to hold, more so than thin hexagon pencils. They are not scratchy feeling at all and because they are soft, if your on the heavy handed side like I tend to be, you might have to sharpen a bit more if you need a super fine pointy tip. I would highly recommend these to anyone who loves this medium and would suggest purchasing here at Amazon. If you watch the price, you can get a great deal, I paid $12 more here a few months ago than the $65 price shown today. I think they are worth the investment of the extra cost than purchasing a cheaper but much less quality set of pencils, even for coloring book addicts, like any task or "job", you will find yourself enjoying it so much more, example coloring or creating a masterpiece, when you have the right tools. FYI this is my own opinion, I haven't earned the privilege of receiving free or discounted products on Amazon so I WAS NOT given these free or discounted but purchased with my hard earned money and I still would highly recommend these to the casual coloring book artist or the professional artists.     • Wonderful Pencils But Use With Care

I bought these for my homeschooling children to use for their schoolwork. For my eight and nine-year-old, some of the work involves coloring pages from Dover coloring books; anyone familiar with these coloring books knows that the drawings are elaborate and detailed, and crayons would never do. My nine-year-old daughter takes great care with her coloring, and enjoys experimenting with blending colors so I thought she would enjoy the variety of color this set affords. She has enjoyed these pencils immensely but we have had a little trouble with them. One, the grooves in which the pencils lie in their tin are shallow, and the pencils sometimes all slide out when the tin is being moved, or the top layer is being lifted from the bottom layer. Two, the diameter of the pencil is such that none of the three sharpeners we owned would sharpen these pencils. One of our sharpeners is a standard electric sharpener that we have relied on for quite some time without issue, so I was surprised. I had to come back to amazon and order the battery powered Derwent sharpener; this has allowed the pencils to be sharpened so that my children can enjoy them again. The third thing is that in trying to sharpen the pencil, one of them snapped. The force being used was not tremendous so I would caution the buyer to handle these with care. Definitely not for younger children--if purchasing for children's coloring projects I would recommend a minimum age of six or seven, and if the child is immature, even older. Overall I am happy with this purchase and would buy them again. ... show more
