  • Great sound, great price
Initial setup is straight forward...follow the on screen instructions and you'll be up and running in no time. Sounds quality is amazing! (Naturally, quality speakers are a must.) The first amp I've ever owned where the dialog enhancement actually works. Surround sound modes work really well, even when decoding OTA/streaming broadcasts. 4k pass-through is sharp and lag-free. Bluetooth pairing to your phone is easy and takes about 10 seconds. This is a quality amp for home theater use at a good price point. ... show more

  • Great product at a fantastic price.
I'm super glad I ended up buying the Denon. The sound is great and the eArc integration with my TV and DVD players is flawless (albeit rather complicated to setup). The number of HDMI ports is great. I haven't tried the phono input yet but it's inclusion was a major factor in deciding on this model; has both moving coil and moving magnet but you can only use one or the other; not dual phono inputs. The AM and FM tuner section works really well but I can get just about every station over the internet so why bother. I initially had it set up with the wireless ethernet but switch to wired through a switch since the TV and both DVD players also want an ethernet connection. I wish it had more RCA AUX ports for a VCR and cassette player. The audio balancing routine is a nice touch but set up the TV first as it's really difficult to navigate without the on screen prompts. The mic wire needs to be just a little longer for a large room. A USB C connection would be a nice touch but for $400 I couldn't be happier. ... show more

  • Good value
I'm having trouble syncing my Firestick with the receiver. I've hooked the stick up to all of the HDMI ports on the receiver but the video keeps cutting in and out. The audio is fine. I'm currently trying solutions recommended on the interweb and will update this post if I find a solution. Otherwise, the audio output drives all of my speakers really well and sounds great. I love the HEOS app and have been able to link all of my receivers/devises using that app. ... show more

  • Dolby Atmos is amazing
Great amp. Great price, way better than the Onkyo's. Easy setup Dolby Atmos is amazing as long as you have all the right speakers and have them placed in the right areas and you're listening or watching something that is coded in that. But once you have everything set up and you give it everything it's supposed to have produces a wonderful sound. ... show more

  • Solid AVR at a Good Price
We bought a new 77" TV and wanted a nice AVR and the AVR-X1700H fits the bill. With 80 watts it is perfect for our mid sized living room. The AVR is easy to control, comes with a good setup program, and is attractive. It has plenty of HDMI inputs, though we primarily use it through our Apple TV though we also have a Blu-ray player hooked up to it as well. It drives our 5.1 system with clear audio and plenty of punch. ... show more

  • Barely works
This is an impressive piece of technology that can do pretty much anything you expect of it, if you can convince it to work The initial setup and UI is about as straightforward as any piece of advanced technology from 1990. Settings are spread across so many different menus and options that it's pretty much expected you'll have to spend hours googling just to get it turned on. Not surprising, but they could have included a better startup guide Adding new devices can be as simple as plugging them in and changing modes. Or it could take 4 hours of troubleshooting and research. You'll never know until you try. And sometimes the solution is just to restart it 4-5 times until the new device is finally recognized The phone apps are simple enough but they do work. Except if the device itself doesn't feel like connecting to wifi that day (which is about 50% of the time for me), you're out of luck. And no, bluetooth alone isn't enough to use the remote, for some strange reason Oh and you need two separate apps, one for controls and one for streaming music to it, just because. And each one has its own set of unique bugs and connection issues And once you have everything set up, its always a risk to shut down at the end of the day. Because what is working one day absolutely does not guarantee it will work the next I don't know if other brands truly would give a more modern and user friendly experience, but this one definitely does not. Won't be buying a Denon product again in the near future ... show more

  • A Great Surround Sound Receiver, eARC works as intended!
I bought this to replace a Marantz receiver after it wouldn't work with my new TV (ARC issues.) It took me a few weeks, but I was able to get this working perfectly with my setup. The only issue I had was that I had to use eARC. When I tried to hook up my firetv stick to this and then this to the TV, it would turn off the firestick, and when I turned it back on, the firestick would take a while to boot up so, it wouldn't find it. There really should be a per input option to turn the devices on/off over CeC. Soundwise, it's a little harsher than Marantz for music, the highs are too loud. But this makes surround sound better in movies. The auto setup microphone worked... okay. Except it set the center channel volume down too low. I'm using this with a TCL QM7k TV and Large 7.1 Polk speakers (Monitor II 50s, A center and a sub). Anyway, I got it working right by hooking everything through the TV, and letting that CeC everything. The only tricky part of the setup was that I had to tell the Firestick that the AVR was set to "TV output" when it wasn't. So yeah, it's hard to get it working with everything, but at least it's possible. Which is more than I can say for ANY other brand. The UI is ugly, but who cares? ... show more
