  • 2020 Model but ROCKS!
So have been looking to upgrade my home theatre system (about 20 yrs old) and had a Denon receiver and Mirage sub along with towers and surround speakers. I first updated the 8 inch mirage sub to a S120 Klipsch sub = WOW what a difference with "punch and lows" this was a big improvement. Next I searched for an AVR that wasnt $1000 + and searched a lot. Since I had a Denon and it served me well I mostly researched Denon but also looked at Marantz, Sony, Yamaha, and a few others begore I settled on the AVR -2700H. Denon has a newer version the 2800 but this is over the $1000 i was trying to stay under and comparing these side by side the 2700 has a few less options and connections but the same power (read watts per channel) and overall performance is similar but $450 less than the 2800. the receiver arrived and was ready to connect and listen. I saw some reviews where folks wrote they were up and running in under 10 minutes! Well congratulations as this took a bit more for me to complete and have operational. The intuitive set up guide is great. But you still need to wire all the speakers, sub, tv, power, had to look for one additional HDMI cable and then enter the set up menu on the TV. Step by step the Denon will send a test sound to each speaker and sub to detect a connection. One of my rear speakers wasnt wired correctly and the Denon found this and alerted me on TV and I couldnt continue till wired correctly. The system then identified all the other components connected and tested connections. Good to go. Connected microphone to run sound calibration, Denon took measurements from various spots in the room and completed the sound check. Listened to the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour and forgot how deep some of the symphony music on that CD. WOW was I blown away. Off to a DVD that I play through a PS4 (which Denon auto detected) and again blown away with the sound. Didnt take too long to get to this point but not a 10 minute job, more like an hour or so but thats me. You might be able to plug wires and hear music in 10 minutes? The App - you almost have to get the Denon app as the remote doesnt really do much except adjust the volume and a few other basics. I read that some had to pay $20 for the app? I didnt, just found on Google Play, installed, it found my AVR and BAMM, can adjust the sound parameters, adjust levels and many features that arent on the remote. The app is cool and installs on a smart phone and controls most everything with the new AVR. Next I was looking to upgrade my front towers and then back surround. This new AVR coupled with an upgrade in sub has reinvigerated my home theater system. Sounds these old ears havent heard in years from the same fomats in music. Yes there is a newer versiona dn more expensive systems out there. But for less than $1000 I upgraded my AVR and Sub and WOW its like old times. Luckily i live in the country and can turn this system up cause it cranks and sounds AWESOME! ... show more

  • Powerful 11.2-Channel Receiver with Excellent Build Quality Powerful 11.2-Channel Receiver with Excellent Build Quality
I finally got around to installing this receiver after having it sit unopened in the box for years, and I’m honestly amazed at how well it performs. I wish I had set it up sooner, but I was building my home theater system piece by piece. Right out of the box, the build quality is outstanding. This receiver is very heavy and solid, which immediately gives you confidence in the components inside. It also has a built-in cooling fan, which does a great job keeping everything running cool even when pushed hard. Setup can feel a little complicated at first, especially when HDMI control devices start trying to talk to each other, but the on-screen setup menu walks you through everything step by step, making the process much easier than expected. Performance-wise, this receiver is extremely powerful. I paired it with my Klipsch home theater system from Costco and two subwoofers, and the sound is absolutely incredible—clean, immersive, and room-filling. Movies, music, and gaming all sound fantastic, and the IMAX Enhanced and 3D audio features really shine. Overall, this is an excellent AV receiver with tons of power, premium build quality, and modern features like 8K support, gaming enhancements, and streaming. I highly recommend it to anyone building or upgrading a serious home theater system. ... show more

  • Great product at a fantastic price.
Style: AVR-X1700H
I'm super glad I ended up buying the Denon. The sound is great and the eArc integration with my TV and DVD players is flawless (albeit rather complicated to setup). The number of HDMI ports is great. I haven't tried the phono input yet but it's inclusion was a major factor in deciding on this model; has both moving coil and moving magnet but you can only use one or the other; not dual phono inputs. The AM and FM tuner section works really well but I can get just about every station over the internet so why bother. I initially had it set up with the wireless ethernet but switch to wired through a switch since the TV and both DVD players also want an ethernet connection. I wish it had more RCA AUX ports for a VCR and cassette player. The audio balancing routine is a nice touch but set up the TV first as it's really difficult to navigate without the on screen prompts. The mic wire needs to be just a little longer for a large room. A USB C connection would be a nice touch but for $400 I couldn't be happier. ... show more

  • Good value
Style: AVR-X1700H
I'm having trouble syncing my Firestick with the receiver. I've hooked the stick up to all of the HDMI ports on the receiver but the video keeps cutting in and out. The audio is fine. I'm currently trying solutions recommended on the interweb and will update this post if I find a solution. Otherwise, the audio output drives all of my speakers really well and sounds great. I love the HEOS app and have been able to link all of my receivers/devises using that app. ... show more

  • Denon longevity is questionable
Update number 2: The company i purchased the reciever from (through Amazon) has actually refunded me almost $100 for absolutely no reason. I didn't ask for it and certainly didn't expect it after 2 years of owning this reciever! A+++ seller!!! I have spoken with Audio Mart in Kansas and they have advised me on how to use the qr code label at FedEx to send the reciever to them. Estimated turn around is about 1-2 weeks. They were super nice and helpful. So far this process has been excellent and I am pleased with everyone i have contacted! My pile of garbage made it 2 years to the week from the day I ordered it. Then, it got the flashing red light of death. I disconnected all the speakers from it then restarted it to see if there was a fault in my speaker wire. It did the same thing on power up with no speakers connected, a flashing red light. So I figured out how to get into the diagnostics of the reciever and read the protection fault. It was DC ,which basically meant that a component in one of the amplifier modules is leaking dc current out to the speakers (bad obviously) so it goes into protection mode and shuts down. I will update this review after I see how Denon handles this situation. Based on another's review, I have serious doubts. UPDATE: I have spoken to Denon and the warranty repair process has started. The tech was courteous and helpful and gave me no headaches with honoring the repair and shipping arrangements. At this point, the only aggravation im experiencing is the fact that I will be without the centerpiece of my entire home audio/video distribution hub for the foreseeable future while someone attempts to repair my AVR. But thats the process. I will update again when the shipping label arrives in my inbox. ... show more

  • A Great Surround Sound Receiver, eARC works as intended!
Style: AVR-X1700H
I bought this to replace a Marantz receiver after it wouldn't work with my new TV (ARC issues.) It took me a few weeks, but I was able to get this working perfectly with my setup. The only issue I had was that I had to use eARC. When I tried to hook up my firetv stick to this and then this to the TV, it would turn off the firestick, and when I turned it back on, the firestick would take a while to boot up so, it wouldn't find it. There really should be a per input option to turn the devices on/off over CeC. Soundwise, it's a little harsher than Marantz for music, the highs are too loud. But this makes surround sound better in movies. The auto setup microphone worked... okay. Except it set the center channel volume down too low. I'm using this with a TCL QM7k TV and Large 7.1 Polk speakers (Monitor II 50s, A center and a sub). Anyway, I got it working right by hooking everything through the TV, and letting that CeC everything. The only tricky part of the setup was that I had to tell the Firestick that the AVR was set to "TV output" when it wasn't. So yeah, it's hard to get it working with everything, but at least it's possible. Which is more than I can say for ANY other brand. The UI is ugly, but who cares? ... show more
