  • Good band Saw
I have been upgrading some of my most used power tools from cheaper brands to better ones and have always been a fan of Delta as my dad always bought them. I know they got sold and lost a lot of their reputation, but I have been extremely happy with this tool. It is powerful, accurate, and built rock solid. The metal parts are pretty oily coming out of the box, but that is to be expected to protect them. I recommend stripping that oil off and treating the surfaces with something like shark skin metal protector just so you aren't getting oil on your projects. The tool required very little zeroing in and was pretty accurate out of the box. Over all I am happy with this model. ... show more

  • Wait 'till you see this saw!
I just unpacked and got my band saw running today, so most of what I have are first impressions, but there's not a lot of reviews so I thought I would add my two cents. First off, this thing is tough! Nearly every part is either cast iron, or steel. The table itself is around 30 lbs. Which brings me to my first point of advice, get a buddy to help you assemble this beast, it definitely a two-person project. To be fair, my last band saw was an entry-level table-top Ryobi, but I've used professional band saws in the past, and this one ranks well among them. That being the case, most of my feedback is probably going to be most useful for the hobbyist. A few pros: Awesome dust collection. I couldn't tell this by the pictures, but the table insert has a bunch of little holes that makes the dust collection super effective. Profoundly quiet. Perhaps I was just used to the whining of the cheap bearings of my last band saw, but I was really amazed by how smooth this puppy runs. Okay, maybe a minor point, but the saw came pre-installed with a blade, and not just that, the blade was perfectly tracked and tensioned, which was really surprising and saved me some set-up time. Hate to call them cons, but maybe a couple "surprises:" The assembly instructions are little ambiguous, and in some cases, I think incorrect. They ask for bolts that didn't seem to come with the pack (lock washers for the stand, eg) Was a little bummed that it came with zero accessories. I understand they're trying to get the cost down to prosumer level, but a miter gauge doesn't seem like too much to ask for. I don't fault them for this, but I would suggest people buy an external work light. I also bought a Kreg fence which works great, but mounts a little oddly. I'll write more once I get some more experience with it, but I've been having a great time cutting itty bitty veneers with no drift! Oh, and be aware it's 190 lbs, so, again, buddy system. ... show more

  • I really like working with this bandsaw!
After some mental adjustments formed from previous bandsaw experience, I have decided that this is one sweet Band Saw! First off, It is very well finished both inside and out and attention has been placed on delivering a very solid tool. Like a previous reviewer, I was taken back by the lack of a fence or miter tool. But now that I have purchased and installed a Kreg fence and Incra miter I am really happy with the setup. It ended up a good deal better than the standard OEM supplied units included with other similar bandsaws. I was also surprised not to have a quick release tension lever but that has not turned out to be any problem. It is just as easy to remember to make a couple of turns on the tension adjustment knob as it ever was to flip the lever with my old bandsaw. Raising and lowering the blade guide is all done without any rack and pinion system. After thinking about how to make it more to my liking , I just added a post to the back bottom of the guide (already has a hole drilled and taped for it there) and I find that way of adjusting the guide to be quick and simple and I really prefer it to the never ending knob turning I had on my last bandsaw. As noted in other reviews, once the blade is fully set up (back rounded with a finishing stone and properly tensioned) and the guides properly adjusted, the saw is whisper quiet. It is a real pleasure to work with. It looks like Delta decided, in order to make their targeted price point, to focus on delivering a tool with higher quality mechanics and let the consumer fill in the extras. Kind of an interesting and clever marketing decision on their part it seems. So, overall the saw sells for less but the total cost of a full setup is up closer to the more expensive competition. Bottom line though. It is an excellent quality band saw and I am very pleased and love to work with it. Things that I at first felt were minuses have turned out to be big pluses after all. ... show more

  • Excellent saw, don't think you can go wrong for the price
I have a small workshop, so I was always a bit wary of getting a bandsaw, instead trying to make do with an extremely noisy and messy circular saw and a wobbly scroll saw. I finally decided to bite the bullet and buy Delta, and I must say that it exceeded my expectations. The saw is actually pretty compact if you consider the generous table clearance, it runs *very* quietly and smoothly, and getting it adjusted (blade tracking, guides, squaring the table) was a breeze. The whole thing is exceptionally well thought-out and sturdy, and a clear step above bottom-dollar tools. The well-finished cast iron table is a nice touch. The only thing that I found missing is some sort of a blade tension indicator (or even a turn scale), so that you can keep track of your previous settings when you change blades or remove tension after a job. Another minor nit is that there is some front-to-back wobble when lowering the blade guard, so you might want to watch the alignment of the rear guide bearing after moving and before re-tightening the guard. Other than that, even with a 1/8" Timber Wolf blade, the saw cuts exceptionally straight. Dust extraction works great, too. ... show more
