Comparing this directly to a late 2016 13" MacBook Pro which I also have. Build quality feels premium. One gripe is on the palm rest and trackpad have a rubber-like coating. Not bad on the palm rest though on the trackpad it creates a little drag so movement is not as effortless as it is on the Mac. Nice screen, small footprint due to the infinity edge or whatever they call it. Gets a little hot on the bottom and the fan is audible when under load, not super loud but noticeable. The key board is far better than the Mac IMO. The keys have more travel and are more tactile making typing much easier. For the price the specs blow the Mac out of the water and the Mac won't be getting Intel Kaby Lake until late this year it looks like. Comparable battery life. All in all a solid, portable, premium laptop. I only wish they had a 1TB drive option. I've only been using it for today though I have not experienced the wi fi issues that others have found, will update if I do. UPDATE: Using this for a couple weeks now. Getting consistent 9-9.5hrs per charge. No wireless connectivity issues. The trackpad feel doesn't bother me anymore. I've actually been using the touch screen while taking notes in class, actually quite useful. All in all a beast of a ultrabook. No coil whine on my unit. Upgrading to 5 stars.

The first thing you will notice when you buy it is that it feels well built. It doesn't feel hollow or like they used cheap plastic like some other low-end Dell computers I have had. This computer is fast and capable especially with the i7u processor with hyperthreading. It can do pretty much anything you want and fast! Despite having a solid state hard drive, it still uses a fan (which is quiet) to keep the powerful processor cool. I have 3 complaints about this computer. Firstly, the built-in speakers are very quiet even when the volume is turned to max. Secondly, they went with a lightening port for HDMI instead of a regular HDMI port so you have to use an adapter for HDMI output, which is intermittent at best, or buy a lightening to HDMI cable. And finally, coming from an old folding style Dell laptop it was nice to be able to fold your laptop screen down and out of the way when outputting to a bigger monitor but this one only folds down to a 45 degree angle. Other than that, it works great and it is what I expected for the money. I would have given this 5 stars if not for the poor sound quality.

I really wanted to like this product. It looks and feels amazing. Premium material, beautiful design language, and surprising specs, for such a small laptop. Functionally, however, I'm extremely disappointed. Model XPS9360-7336SLV (this product) was my first purchase. Right out of the box, before I installed any software, I noticed random lag spikes. I just hoped it would work out the kinks as the updates come in. After several days of light usage, the screen started a flicker and display "streaks" of white or green. Updating the hardware drivers didn't fix the issue, so I tried to get Amazon to send a replacement. For some reason, they couldn't do that, so I just started the return process and ordered another one. This time, I ordered Dell XPS 15 XPS9560-7369SLV-PUS 15.6-Inch Traditional Laptop (Silver). Larger, but comes with a more powerful CPU -- I was hoping this would resolve the lag spikes. Several days later, the laptop arrived. Again, I'm amazed at how gorgeous it is. The 15-inch was significantly larger and heavier than the 13-inch -- expected. Booted up fine. No display issues. I didn't do too much with it, since it was getting late. The next morning, I bring the brand-new 15-inch with me to work and plugged it in to charge -- it doesn't charge. The battery status said something to the effect of "plugged in and not charging." The battery status indicator was flashing orange. As soon as I unplug the charger, the laptop powers off completely. After a couple minutes of online-research, I found: "Constantly blinking amber light — Fatal battery failure with AC adapter present." "Okay. This really sucks," I thought to myself. The really-wanting-to-like-this-laptop me decided to give Dell -one- more chance. Contacted Amazon and this time they were actually able to send a replacement without my having to reorder. In a couple days the replacement 15-inch arrived and upon first boot: "No boot device found." Ran hardware test and found no issues. Saw that SSD was present in the laptop, not missing. Went to Dell's website to download OS recovery, created recovery USB, tried to recover the OS. Tried again. And Again. And.. I give up. This is the worst experience I've ever had with -any- purchase. Never again, Dell. Note: I will be submitting this review for the 15-inch as well. Edit: Fixed product link.

I upgraded to this laptop last week from HP ENVY 13t-d000. Which I customized from HP.com . Core i7 6th gen, 8GB DDR3, 256GB SSD and 3200x1800 QHD non-touch. Super light laptop and fast. However recently for my college work I need to run 3-4 virtual machine through VMware. The RAM were soldered, so can't upgrade. I am not a gamer but all I want from my computer is that a quick response time. Which my laptop couldn't provide when I ran VMware, Mozilla firefox (5 tabs at least) and MS word/excel. Also the battery backup was not so great compared to other 2015 released laptops. 3-4 hours max if I was lucky, with full resolution and brightness. After few months of research and saving some money, decided to go for this tiny brat. I read a lot of reviews about the coil whine, several users posted video of the constant coil whine sound, also the camera being positioned in awkward side (Though I don't care). Users also complained about the Wi-Fi issue, but I knew it wasn't going to be a big deal since people also mentioned it was resolved after updating bios, driver and windows. I was also considering the new XPS 13 2-in-1. But not a fan of i7-7Y75, plus it doesn't have a literal fan in the system. Which I need because the extreme pressure I put on my poor laptops. I also use a laptop cooling pad at home. As a part time employee (PC department) of US' largest electronic retail store, I have enough opportunity to play with the laptops anytime I wanted. Plus I get to see exact sale and return ratio (Not very ethical revealing these information, I apologize). Unfortunately my employer company decided to discontinue XPS 13-9360or may be they didn't carry it at all, because when I looked it up it wasn't there and no updates of getting it in the stock. So looked up at Dell.com and every other major retailer. If Dell.com could offer me a better price I would've ordered it from them because I needed the fingerprint reader. On my HP laptop I mentioned above, had that feature. Very useful and secure. You can only add that hardware if you order through Dell for an addition $20. Also if you need windows 10 pro, it's $50 more. All of these ONLY can be done at the point of sale. However I looked up at Google.com and found Windows 10 pro OEM for 1/10th of the regular price (Legit and verified but use PayPal). You can also get it from amazon for $140 (only for Prime members). If you don't need remote desktop and encryption features also putting updates on pause, stick to home edition. For a week I did a lot of test on my laptop and came out pretty solid. You can download some freeware laptop benchmark/stress test software to check. Also if you don't need power share feature, go to bios and disable the feature like me. It drains battery if you connect a hard drive like peripherals and wireless transceiver for mouse,even after you shutdown the system and keep them connected. The laptop has solid battery backup, I always use full fledged functionality of laptop because most of the time I use my laptop connected to a power source. That being said, just to test the battery I used it on battery and I got impressive 6-7 hours. I am more than happy. On any worse day I rarely use my laptop for 4 hours on battery. So my feedback might be different from the others depending on usage policy and expectations. One thing I would like to mention about the laptop's display is that it's super bright and clear. It has the same QHD display as my previous HP ENVY laptop. But after 2 days of use I decided to reduce the brightness to 75%, very soothing and still same as the previous. Wish I had taken picture, keeping both laptop side by side. Oh yeah as for the coil whine it was some what loud when I first opened the laptop. However after updating bios, driver, OS it was almost gone, sometimes it came back and was loud. So I can't tell for sure that the updates resolved the issues. I am not that annoyed by noise because most of the time at home I use my laptop cooling pad and that fan is always humming. And when I watch TV shows, I use my bose earbuds, so no chance of getting annoyed. Speaking of sound experience, as I hardly use laptop's speakers, I am not able to provide any feedback. The USB 3.0 port on this model is a blessing. I can connect my laptop cooling pad and other peripherals, also got an USB type-C to Micro-B for my portable Hard drive. Speaking of portable, the small 11 inch footprint puts this laptop on top every 13 inch laptops out there. I pack lot of stuffs on my shoulder bag, books, papers, mobile charger and cable, water bottle, work uniform the days I work. So the small shape and weight is a great feature. I would like to end my review by saying this: This review is entirely based on my personal experience and expectation. You can find the pros and cons reviews on the web. Which are very helpful. This review is just an honest insight.

i7/512gb/16gb/touch screen Long story short - our friends in Cupertino missed a huge opportunity in thinning the bezels of the 11" Macbook Air, investing the extra space in battery power, and keeping some regular ports. The Dell XPS 13 is a decent successor to my last laptop. There are some things that are great, and others that, for lack of better words, really piss me off. I'm curious to try out a new X1 Carbon and see if my opinion changes. The screen is gorgeous, and the touch functionality works reasonably well. It's a quick computer, and the keyboard isn't too bad for the form factor (though I feel like I have to push harder on the keys than my work laptop - an HP 820 G3 with a screen bezel the size of Texas). It's nice being able to run Excel in a proper way on a laptop (I'd love to never touch Mac Office again). There are only two things that really drive me crazy, and they have me on the edge of returning the laptop. First off - the coil whine. When I'm working without ambient noise or music, this is horrible. I'm pretty upset that I spent $1400 on a laptop and it sounds like an irritated robot. The second is power behavior. There is no clear indication that the laptop is sleeping. It kind of sucks to close your laptop, then a few hours later come back to 50% battery. Windows 10's ungraceful sleep/wake behavior probably has a lot to do with this. [Update 6/26/2017] - Another thing popped up that made it just about impossible to be productive on the laptop. The keyboard ended up "double clicking" the space bar at random - so I would e nd up with sentences t hat look l ike this. Between that, the coil whine, and the mystery power behavior I decided to return the laptop. It's a pity; the screen was gorgeous and I really wanted to like it. X1 here I come..?

So far so good. very sturdy. good speed. keyboard (better than my previous ASUS) but would be better if the "old style" keys - raised a bit more; seems laptops have those "soft" mushy keys now. screen good. background on keyboard part looks sort of textured/subtle. Has light on CAP lock -- which i REALLY wanted. Recommend. and ---- better pricing on Amazon than elsewhere. Get the extended warranty too; just $89 for 3 yrs.

Each time I buy a laptop, I look for the best possible deal on the best model I can find and I often end up getting a laptop I like, but not one I am in love with. Well, until now. This is a fantastic laptop. The screen is incredibly crisp, the bezel is almost non-existent and makes using it on the go a breeze. I am consistently writing papers and the keyboard has plenty of travel, no oddly-placed keys, and the backlit is not too intense. Until this laptop, I almost always utilized an external mouse. Guess what? Between the smart gestures and the general feel of the trackpad, no longer! The only con that comes to mind is the camera. Due to the bezel design, the web cam is placed in the bottom right of the screen so when you are in a web call, the camera points up at you (similar to an iPad, or if you were Facetiming and were tilting the phone up). I do not utilize the camera enough to bother me, but if you use a camera a lot, it is something to consider. It feels like a solid laptop, but is exceptionally light and has all the features I could want. I whole-heartedly suggest this to anyone looking for a laptop. Word of caution for eGPU proponents: The USB-C is limited to 2x PCIe so if you're looking for an ultrabook to connect to a eGPU, keep that in mind. This will affect performance, but you are limited to a mobile cpu performance regardless.
