  • Really Nice Upscale Laptop For Muti-Use
I'm a very discerning computer user, as I've been a computer professional for decades, and I also do lots of video editing and games. Dell has been my go-to windows vendor as I've used multiple generations of alienware and XPS laptop and desktops. Here are my thoughts after a few weeks with this laptop: Love: * Monitor Like: * Overall build quality * Horsepower: graphics card and cpu * Modern USB-C Ports * Speakers Needs Improvement: * Skimpy RAM * Very skimpy hard disk space * Keyboard * Trackpad Overall this is a killer rig, although one of the first things I did was upgrade the RAM and disk space. It comes with 2 slots for memory and 2 SSD slots, so you can inexpensively double the RAM and add another 1TB or 2TB internal SSD drive for a couple hundred bucks (which I highly recommend). I've done some video editing and it handles that well, and while I'm not a FPS gamer, I enjoy simulation games and RPG's which are pretty graphically intensive, and it runs those games very well. The speakers are fine, they are on the sides of the keyboard, and are good enough watching videos, gaming, and light video editing. For a laptop, it has quite good sound. My nemesis has become the touchpad, which after a couple weeks of use now frequently mis-interprets right-clicks, causing all sort of wonky things to happen. I now use a mouse exclusively with this laptop. I'm not thrilled by the keyboard. The keys are pretty flat and don't have much feel. My alienware has a much better keyboard. The overall build quality though is still very good on the xps. The monitor is high quality and everything about the laptop feels solid and sturdy. I have mixed feelings about the change-over to USB-C ports (this laptop has *no* traditional "usb" ports, ethernet ports or hdmi ports). I've used macs for years, so I've gotten used to dealing with it, but most of my windows peripherals are still "old school usb-a". it really is a hassle to try to attach things like an ethernet cable, an external drive, or a monitor, or even a mouse to this laptop. It definitely means having to buy some new hubs, cables, and maybe even replacing entire peripherals (if you want to fully utilize the power/speed of usb-c). I really wish they at least included an ethernet port and say an hdmi port onto the back, but I'm learning to live with it. Overall I'm very happy and impressed with this laptop! It's not cheap, but I think it is actually a decent value considering the computing power and build quality of the XPS. ... show more

  • Battery life is a struggle, but overall a good quality laptop.
This is really a great laptop, however when I received only a few months in I noticed a major issue. I took it to multiple places before realizing that it was a mother-board issue, and I needed to send it back. Amazon customer service did a great job of handling the situation with great communication and at no cost. I frequently notice that the battery life will not make it through a whole day especially in use. The battery saver must consistently be on, and it will need to be charged multiple times a day. The purchase was still worth it, and this laptop as many great features. ... show more

  • Worst Laptop ever
No place for a mouse except the external adapter which broke. Volume was great at first but didn't last, This is the most I've ever spent on a laptop and by far the worst. I've had several Deel's but this will be the last one.

  • Hard to open lid
This is a bit of a preliminary review until I've had it longer and see how it holds up and the battery life. Mostly I'm going to compare it to a Inspirion laptop from Dell as well. What I like about this over the other? Well, the touchscreen! This is my first touchscreen laptop and I think it's pretty sweet instead of having to touch the pad and then more the curser with my finger. It is limited though, as there's no way to click and hold or left click... at least not that I know of. I also like how you can plug the power source in from either side instead of being forced to have it on the right or left as you typically are with laptops. What I don't like as much: First off, this is hard to open. The bottom of it curves to the front and the top and bottom are flush together. Obviously, I don't want to pry it open with my nails, so I have to take two hands and tilt it to open it... not just lift the lid. Second, the camera doesn't have a slider, like the Inspirion does, to close it if you want to block the camera. While theoretically the camera might be off when you aren't using it, I like the reassurance that it isn't looking at me by having the slider. Third, to go along with the first issue I brought up, the roundedness of the bottom doesn't prevent it from sliding off some laptop stands. I'd be careful until you know how well it is held by your stand. Fourth, this is considerably heavier than the Inspirion I have. The charger runs warmer as well. But so far it is running quieter than the Inspirion. Overall, it seems like a nice laptop IF you don't need to open it one handed AND you are okay IF the camera is always on. It looks good and feels comfortable. ... show more
