  • Honest review of the good and bad!
So obviously if you read these reviews you see good and bad. Like with anything... I’ve had this laptop for over a year now and I can’t complain! When I first go it, it worked awesome but after a few months mine did the thing with the WiFi. It wouldnt show networks and so I had to call dell but it only took me 15 minutes and sorted it out! That is the only issue I have had. I use this laptop every day for 8 hours. The battery pretty much sucks but I just leave it plugged in at my desk so that doesn’t affect me. Over all I’d say this laptop is really nice! Sure It might have a hiccup at the beginning but looking back on a years worth of work it has not yet once lagged or had trouble loading anything! This thing is a beast. I can edit 4K videos and watch a movie at the same time and you wouldn’t even notice a slow down. The keyboard is really nice and I type a lot. In summary, you are going to have problems with any kind of technology. This laptop has served me very well and I would recommend this to anyone who could keep it plugged in all day! ... show more

  • A short existance.
The packaging appeared to be in great shape. Upon opening the box, the laptop fired right up and it initiated downloading software and firmware updates. All appearing normal, I began to load on Firefox and Thunderbird. The machine appeared to be functioning properly. I stopped to take a call and when I went back to the machine, it was dark. I pressed the power button and nothing... I thought that perhaps it had run out of battery power so I plugged in the laptop. No response when pressing the power button. The keyboard did not light up. I then assumed that it may need additional time to gather a charge, so left it plugged in for an additional 10 minutes. Again, all dark and no response. At that point I boxed the laptop up and sent it back. I decided that troubleshooting a brand new, but totally unresponsive machine was not what I paid for. Great looking laptop, but very disappointing. I have had a Dell laptop (workstation class) that I have used for many years with out problem, and thought this would be a great upgrade. Now, I am trying to decide if I want to try another Dell or some other brand. ... show more

  • Drivers missing
I love the computer. Having had a XPS13 since 2015, which has given me trouble-free service for the last 4 years. When the XPS15 arrived it was well packed and showed no damage to the packaging, and of course as a result, no damage to the computer. However, the startup package was missing and I was unable to get the computer to work. Fortunately I have a friend who was able to assist me to download the necessary software, and update the computer. [ I am challenged when it comes to that sort of thing.....] This was annoying.... However, since then I have nothing but good to say about the computer. It is super-fast and I am able to store all my photos on an external HDD and access them directly using Lightroom, A problem I had before with the XPS 13 The battery charger tends to heat up, if you allow the battery to discharge too much. But this can be overcome by unplugging the charger for half an hour or so... After reading some on-line advice, I downloaded an app called ThrottleStop and I have been testing this to see, if reducing the charge voltage helps. ... show more

  • A very nice (expensive) laptop - hope to use for filmmaking chores in future
I bought this laptop as an upgrade for an under-powered HP convertible that I used basically for Web, e-mail, video streaming. I had hoped (still do!) to use this Dell XPS 15 9570 for video processing , but haven't gotten around to doing that in the past couple of months that I've owned this new machine. I enjoy the quality of the screen, but had to do some work- around to utilize it with an older (non-subscription) version of Adobe photoshop (cs6). NOT the computer's fault (computer screen ultra high resolution, not supported by older version of photoshop). One thing that does bug me about this machine is how it "wakes up" from putting it down. The old HP machine came back to life instantaneously, This thing requires a push & hold for 9 seconds (yep, I counted); then sometimes a repeat. OK, that's not that big of a thing & I can probably figure out how to streamline, but it's still a "thing". Also, DELL "pops" up windows that says "this machine has been updated," but doesn't tell you what it did, what's been updated. It also comes with WIN 10 "HOME" version, that I managed to update to "PRO" by virtue of having a valid licenses to an old copy of WIN 7 lying about-- search on line if you have the same situation. I don't game (future goal is video rendering, processing), but have stress-tested machine to get the fans going (otherwise it stays quiet). Even with fans flying, it's a quiet machine. So far, machine is over-kill for what I've been using it for. The prior HP laptop at 1/4th price was suitable for what I find myself doing. However, this purchase is part of a long-term investment into film making... ... show more

  • Great laptop EXCEPT that it will not wake up
I've got many laptops, and have had dozens of laptops in the past. I buy them often to keep on upgrading. This one has large memory and disk capacity and works great as advertised. However, there's a problem with it in that it will not wake up after sleeping. I've had it for a week and it has done this 3 times on me. You have to hard boot it - very annoying as I use it for 24 hour apps. Power settings are set to 'go to sleep' NEVER however, it goes to sleep and then won't wake up. I've read some possible fixes for this issue, but why, after spending nearly $2k on a laptop should I have to mess with BIOS and drivers. Disappointing . I should give it 1 star really because a laptop out of the box with these credentials should not have to be tweaked technically. Updated after a month of use: I have spent hours updating BIOS and other drivers and trying to troubleshoot this laptop. It still - at least twice a week - will not wake up causing a hard reboot. For a laptop of this caliber, this is unacceptable. ... show more
